The family of Layton Carr, 14, have paid tribute to the 'cheeky lad' with 'a heart of gold' who died in an industrial estate fire.
His body was discovered inside the Fairfield Industrial Park in Gateshead just hours after he was reported missing on Friday.
Eleven boy and three girls aged between 11 and 14 were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, before two other boys aged 12 were later arrested as well. All the children have been released on police bail.
Layton's heartbroken family paid tribute to him today, saying he was 'such a kind, caring and loving boy.'
They said: 'Layton was such a kind, caring and loving boy.
'From the minute he was born, it was obvious the character he would turn out to be.
'Layton was your typical 14-year-old lad, a cheeky, happy lad. Despite his cheeky side Layton had an absolute heart of gold and would do anything for anyone.
'He was loved by all that met him, and it showed.
'He was a family boy that loved his mam and sisters more than anything in the world.
'Layton, we love you more than any words can ever explain. You will be missed more than you'll ever know. Our bright and beautiful boy.'
A GoFundMe fundraiser started by a family friend to help pay for Layton's funeral has topped £15,000.
The family said 'a massive thank you to all that helped in finding Layton' and the emergency services.
'We're incredibly grateful for the work that you do every day to bring closure to families like ours,' they added.
Layton's aunt Nicole Dingwall said in an online post: 'Can't believe I'm writing this. RIP Layton, forever 14. You'll be a massive miss. Thinking of my sister and two beautiful nieces right now.'
Another relative, who did not want to be named, said: 'It is a hard moment. His sister is only 16 and is taking it as bad as anything. They are all just numb.'
Further tributes have poured in from across the community, including Layton's school.
David Thompson, the headteacher of Hebburn Comprehensive School where Layton was a pupil, commented on his death: 'Our school community is heartbroken. More Trending
'Layton was a valued and much-loved member of Year 9, and he will be greatly missed by everyone.
'We extend our sincere condolences to Layton's family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
'As a school, we will rally together to support one another through this tragedy.
'Anyone who wishes to pay their respects is invited to lay flowers at the fence in front of the bungalow in memory of Layton.'

Police storm Rivals set to arrest actor accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend
Just one hour after he filmed a scene starring Danny Dyer, an extra on TV show Rivals was arrested. Nigel Adams was reportedly led away in cuffs by six police officers while he was still in costume. The 45-year-old had been shooting a polo scene, with a second series of the hit Disney+ drama starring Emily Atack and David Tennant recently confirmed. Avon and Somerset Police are believed to have been tipped off that the former bricklayer was working on the Rivals set this week; hence, two cop cars showed up. His co-stars are said to have watched on in shock, with a source telling The Sun that it was 'very dramatic'. 'Everyone was in their costumes, and Danny was filming this polo scene when, an hour later, police suddenly turned up to arrest one of the extras,' added the insider. 'It was shocking.' Adams is said to have spent two nights in a cell before appearing in Bristol magistrates' court on Friday, accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The supporting actor, who has also appeared in Doctor Who and Casualty, is alleged to have assaulted her at a house in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, with cops called to the address on May 31 at 2am. In court, he entered no plea and was given conditional bail. He's due back in the city's crown court on July 7. In a statement, Rivals production company Happy Prince said: 'On the 4th June, the police visited the set regarding an unrelated matter involving a supporting artist. 'Production co-operated with the police. We do not have any further information as it is not connected to Rivals or to our production.' Corroborating their statement, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed a man from Locking, Somerset, had been arrested at Berkeley Castle on June 4, charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm. As well as the shows mentioned, Adams was also an extra in House of the Dragon and The Forsyte Saga. In 2022, he appeared in the movie Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher, which starred Ray Winstone. More Trending Those close to Adams have now said he's fearing the end of his career as an extra due to the arrest. 'He'll be gutted because it could end his TV career, something he really loves doing,' said a friend. They added: 'He's a bricklayer by trade, but he's been doing more and more TV work; he's been in loads of stuff. 'Whenever he's in the background of a show, he gets all his family and friends to watch it.' This is a breaking news story, more to follow soon… Check back shortly for further updates. Colombian presidential candidate 'fighting for life' after shooting
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A Colombian presidential hopeful is fighting for his life after being shot at a campaign rally. A 15-year-old boy has been arrested following the assassination attempt on Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, 39, in the Fontibon neighbourhood of Bogota yesterday. His wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, wrote on X that her husband remains in a critical condition. She said: 'Miguel is fighting for his life at the moment. 'We pray to God to assist the hands of the doctors who are attending to him. I ask that we all come together in a prayer of support for Miguel's life. 'I place my faith in God.' Pictures shared on social media showed Senator Uribe covered in blood before being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. A medical report said the politician remained in a 'critical' condition and is undergoing a 'neurosurgical and peripheral vascular procedure' at the Fundacion Santa Fe hospital. President Petro Gustavo cancelled a planned visit to France due to the 'seriousness of the events' and said respect for life was a 'red line'. He said: 'I hope that Miguel Uribe Turbay survives, that's what I want first and foremost, and that society should feel, before anything else, and that we should join our hearts and energy to help him get well.' The country's first leftist head of state promised a 'transparent' investigation focusing on identifying those who ordered the attack, as the government offered a £540,000 reward for information. Senator Uribe Turbay was intending to run for the right wing Democratic Centre Party in next year's presidential elections scheduled for May 31. His mother, a journalist, was murdered in 1991 during one of the nation's most turbulent periods. The mayor of Bogota, Carlos Fernando Galán, said he condemned what he called an affront on democracy and called on the authorities to identify those responsible as soon as possible. He told reporters that these were 'critical' moments for the senator and his family. 'We must increase protection to those who are participating in these [campaigning] activities. We also call for protection to his family to guarantee their security at this time.' He added: 'We must be capable as a country to reject not just violence but also language that can eventually lead to hatred.' More Trending Colombia's defence minister Pedro Sanchez said: 'I have ordered the Colombian military and police forces and intelligence agencies to deploy all their capabilities to urgently clarify the facts.' US Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the 'violent leftist rhetoric' behind the assassination attempt. He wrote: 'Having seen firsthand Colombia's progress over the past few decades to consolidate security and democracy, it can't afford to go back to dark days of political violence. President Petro needs to dial back the inflammatory rhetoric and protect Colombian officials. 'We stand in prayer with Miguel's family, loved ones, and his supporters. Those responsible for this attack must face justice.' Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ For more stories like this, check our news page. Hannah Bennett was on holiday with her two sons when she was told the devastating news that she longer had a place to come home to after her flat in Cables Wynd House, Leith, had been involved in a fire. No one was injured in the blaze, which broke out shortly before 11pm on Friday, June 6, but the flames engulfed two flats and left several others badly damaged. Police Scotland said they evacuated residents as a precaution and all but two households had been able to return to their homes. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad A fundraiser has now been launched to help Hannah's family rebuild their lives following the fire. Sheri Ulich, a fellow resident in the building, has set up a GoFundMe page and is asking members of the public to 'please give what you can'. More than £1,000 has been raised in the 20 hours since the page was set up, and Sheri has set a target of raising £3,000 for the young family. An Edinburgh family has been 'left with nothing' after a huge blaze ripped through their flat while they were on holiday. | Third party She said: 'On June 6, a horrific fire broke out in a flat at Cables Wynd House. The blaze completely destroyed one home and left the family next door - including two young children - with nothing. 'Their home is now uninhabitable and they'll be displaced for at least six months. This wasn't their fault. Yet they've lost everything: clothes, toys, furniture, essentials - even a sense of safety. Hannah Bennett's flat has been gutted in the fire and a fundraiser has now been launched | Hannah Bennett It comes after residents rallied around those affected by the fire in the hours after it was extinguished by nine fire crews. Kirsty Chatwood, who has lived in Cables Wynd House for 23 years, told the Evening News that a group of residents had already offered to do loads of laundry for people whose flats were filled with smoke, and others are helping to scrub the walls and clean up any smoke or water damage. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The 48-year-old said: 'We get a bad reputation here because people always say we are the 'Trainspotting building' but people step up, they always do, to help. I personally feel very blessed that I've got these amazing neighbours in my city who, when something awful happens, always step up to help.'
