Ireland's Eve McMahon becomes world sailing number one
It is an incredible feat for the 21-year-old, who trains in Howth Sailing Club.
She jumped from twelfth to first in the standings after her strong Olympics last year in addition to a bronze medal at the ILCA World Championships in China last month.
She came 11th in Paris last year but impressed on the way.
She is just one of a number of sailors spurring on Irish sailing, as Olympians Robert Dickson, Sean Waddilove and Finn Lynch are also doing well.
McMahon's brother Ewan is also a strong sailor, reaching 11th place in the rankings.
The Performance Director at Irish Sailing, James O'Callaghan said: 'To have five senior athletes ranked so high globally is a remarkable achievement and a true reflection of the depth of talent in Irish sailing.
"For Eve to reach World Number One at just 21 years of age is exceptional. It proves, once again, that Ireland consistently punches above its weight on the international stage in sailing.
"But, whilst these ranking are a significant and welcome marker, our athletes remain focused on delivering at key events.'
In more good news for Irish sailing, it was recently announced that the 2026 ILCA World Championships will be held in Dun Laoghaire, providing a chance to see our Irish Olympians in home waters.
The glory days are set to continue for Irish sailing, even though it is a long way to go towards the next Olympics in Los Angeles.

John Martin the hero as Shelbourne record famous European win in Croatia
John Martin was the hero with his header sealing a second-half comeback as Shelbourne recorded a famous 2-1 over Croatian giants Rijeka in the first-leg of their Europa League third qualifying round clash. Played at Stadion Rujevica, the temporary home of Rijeka while their stadium gets redeveloped, Shelbourne came into Wednesday night's tie as massive underdogs with some bookmakers pricing the Irish champions at 12/1 to win in Croatia. 11 draws have curtailed Shelbourne's Premier Division title defence and led to the departure of Damien Duff earlier this Summer. A draw would have been an excellent result on Wednesday at the temporary home of the Croatian champions, who got their title defence under way with a win last weekend. Manager Joey O'Brien insisted earlier in the week that his team weren't thinking of 'plan b' scenarios as a rematch with Linfield looms in the event that Shels fail to progress through this tie. O'Brien was forced into 'plan b' early in the match however, with striker Sean Boyd pulling up injured and being replaced by Martin after just 21 minutes. Martin's introduction led to Shelbourne's first bright piece of play of the night. The League of Ireland champions broke sharply down the right flank but just when things were starting to look promising, Kameron Ledwidge coughed up possession and Shels retreated back into their low block. The hosts enjoyed the majority of the ball for practically the entire first period, but they failed to make much of an impression on the game. Ante Orec made a few decent sojourns down the right hand side, but his end product was lacking. It took until the 45th minute for the Croats to finally heap some pressure on Shels. A left-footed Niko Jankovic drive stung the palms of Wessel Speel in goal. Two resulting corners were scrambled clear by the Dublin side and as the half-time whistle blew, a smattering of whistles could be heard from the unhappy home fans. The game needed a goal to spark the tie into life and it came 10 minutes into the second-half in bizarre fashion. Speel made a mess of a simple back-pass, fouled Merveil Ndockyt in the area, and Jankovic slotted the resulting penalty with ease. But within a minute Shelbourne were level. Kerr McInroy flashed a deflected shot wide before Shels worked a clever corner routine which saw Milan Mbeng head back across goal to set-up a simple headed finish for Sam Bone. Rijeka were left furious as they believed their goalkeeper had been fouled. VAR took a look, but luck was on Shelbourne's side and the goal was given. That dour first-half now a distant memory, both sides hunted the go ahead goal. Simon Butic forced Speel into an excellent save to deny a swerving, dipping effort, before Martin's rasping shot evaded the top-left corner by inches. With 20 minutes left on the clock, Shelbourne hit the front. The lively Mbeng fed Harry Wood on the right, who fizzed in an incredible cross that was planted by Martin into the top corner to send the Shels supporters behind the goals into raptures. The expected onslaught from the hosts came too little too late as Shelbourne saw out the game fairly comfortably. Rijeka huffed and puffed, but failed to create anything of note for the last quarter of an hour. There was a last minute VAR check for a potential handball to keep Shels fans on the edge of their seats, but it was rightly waved away and the League of Ireland Champions will take a 2-1 lead into the second-leg at Tolka Park.

Sligo brace takes Keane back to summit
Champion jockey Colin Keane re-established his lead in the title race thanks to a double on Lady Lunette and Antoine De Paris in Sligo, an 89-1 brace which leaves him one ahead of Dylan Browne McMonagle (56-55). A three-time winner last season, the Ray Cody-trained Lady Lunette bounced back to winning form when defying top-weight in the featured Irish Stallion Farms EBF Connacht Oaks, coming from off the pace and staying on strongly to beat Galway scorer Thatwilldoso by two and a half lengths. 'She was the classy filly in the race, but was giving away lumps of weight,' stated Cody. 'But, when things fall her way, she's very good. The ground in Leopardstown the last day was too firm for her and today's small field helped. 'Of course, the man on top (Keane) is a genius and gave her a super ride. Her owner (Karen Curtin) would like to get some black type for her and she's capable of getting it.' Six-time champion Keane had kicked off his evening on board Noel Meade's Antoine De Paris in the Carlsberg Optional Claiming Race, the Elzaam gelding proving a length and a half superior to favourite Tartaraghan. 'He's named after the comedian Noel V Ginnity,' explained Meade, 'We put him in light enough, so he'd have his chance. He's not big but he's genuine enough.' Antoine De Paris was subsequently claimed, for €10,000, by trainer Noel Kelly. Trainer John O'Donoghue is planning a step into stakes company for Felix Somary, an Acclamation colt, following his debut success in the Irish EBF Auction Series 2-Y-0 Maiden. Ridden prominently by Ronan Whelan, the 7-1 shot found plenty in the closing stages to hold the challenge of favourite Raphello by a head. 'He looked professional,' declared the winning trainer. 'I think we'll look at the Killavullan (Group 3, at Leopardstown on October 18) and work back from there. 'He's a big, scopey colt and likes an ease. It was encouraging that he handled the track so well, which isn't easy first time.' Apprentice Gabriella Hill, set to join Stuart Williams in England next week, registered her third success and rode out her 10lb claim when the Henry de Bromhead-trained Trubshaw, in the familiar Dawn Run colours and helped by first-time cheekpieces, captured the Guinness Handicap, battling to beat God The Highness by a head. Sean Flanagan, just back from Australia, partnered the Jessica Harrington-trained 33-1 shot Ashdale Flyer, a 14-race maiden over hurdles, to land the Treo Eile Beginners Chase on his fencing debut. The Wexford man completed a double when Martin Hassett's mare Bynx, on her handicap chase debut, proved best in the Ladies Day 29th August Handicap Chase. And Andy Slattery struck again in the bumper as Adam Ryan partnered 2-1 favourite Beir Bua to a battling all-the-way victory over the Mullins runner Mahon Falls, the trainer's fifth winner in nine days.
