A ticket given to the car from the local council was issued on May 19 and threatened to tow the car if it wasn't moved within a week due to being 'untaxed.'
On Friday, a recovery driver attended the scene to tow the car but alerted police when they thought a body could have been in the back seat of the car. A spokesperson for the police force said: 'Police were called to Whittle Way in Northgate, Crawley at around 10.30am on Friday, 6 June, to reports of a body found in a vehicle.
'Enquiries are ongoing to identify the individual and establish the full circumstances of the situation.' A ticket given to the car from the local council was issued on May 19 and threatened to tow the car if it wasn't moved within a week due to being 'untaxed.' Pic: Facebook
A local took to Facebook warning the car owner that the car was set to be removed, writing: 'This BMW has been left parked for months, it's covered in dust now, it's tax and MOT, it seems a bit strange that it's been left abandoned.
'It since has a warning sticker from Crawley Council and they are threatening to remove it.
'If this is your car, my advice is to get it removed before the removal truck does.'
The local later added: 'A body was found in the back of the car by the recovery driver, as I said in my post I did raise my concerns about the owner yet as usual too many like to make a joke of things.
'It's sad to think all that time someone been left in the car, please don't be too quick to judge and if you have nothing nice to say, then keep your comments to yourself.'
