Attack on pro-Israel demonstrators in Colorado injures 8 people
Eight people have been injured in an attack on pro-Israel demonstrators in the US state of Colorado.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation says a man used a makeshift flamethrower and threw an incendiary device into the demonstrators in Boulder on Sunday.
The agency says eight people, aged 52 to 88, were taken to hospitals with injuries including burns.
The demonstrators were calling for the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip by the Islamic group Hamas.
The FBI says the attacker allegedly yelled, "Free Palestine," during the incident.
FBI Director Kash Patel said on social media that it was a "targeted terror attack."
Authorities have detained a 45-year-old man. They say he is also injured, and they are investigating him to determine the motive behind the attack.
Israeli forces are continuing to attack Gaza.
The incident comes less than two weeks after two Israeli embassy staff members were shot and killed in Washington.

Trump signs proclamation banning travel from 12 countries
U.S. President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on Wednesday banning travel from certain countries citing national security concerns. The proclamation fully restricts and limits the entry of nationals from 12 countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen. The entry of people from seven other countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela, will be partially restricted, the official said. The travel proclamation was first reported by CBS News. "President Trump is fulfilling his promise to protect Americans from dangerous foreign actors that want to come to our country and cause us harm," Abigail Jackson, a White House spokesperson, said on X. The countries facing the total ban were found "to be deficient with regards to screening and vetting and determined to pose a very high risk to the United States," according to a statement provided by the White House. During his first term in office, Trump announced a ban on travelers from seven majority-Muslim nations, a policy that went through several iterations before it was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018. Former U.S. President Joe Biden, a Democrat who succeeded Trump, repealed the ban in 2021, calling it "a stain on our national conscience."

Trump's decision on US Steel deal gets closer
As the world is still reacting to US President Donald Trump's recent move to double tariffs on steel and aluminum, the focus is now shifting to whether he will green light Nippon Steel's bid to take over US Steel. The Japanese steelmaker is expecting his decision by Thursday. Trump spoke about the potential deal at a rally with steelworkers in near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, last week. He called Nippon Steel a "great partner," but later told reporters that they had not reached a final agreement. Nippon Steel has offered to pump 14 billion dollars into US Steel if the acquisition is approved. Trump has described it as the largest investment in US steelmaking history. Observers say they're waiting to see the details of the agreement, including how big a stake Nippon Steel could get. The Japanese firm wants to make US Steel a wholly owned subsidiary. It is also discussing a national security agreement to promise to protect America's steel industry. Trump had instructed the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to do a new review of the deal. The committee reportedly submitted its recommendation by May 21. The president then had 15 days to make a decision, and that timeline is coming to an end.

Trump holds phone talks with Putin
US President Donald Trump has revealed he held talks over the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday. Trump said in a social media post that the call lasted about one hour and 15 minutes. He said, "It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace." Trump said the two discussed Ukraine's attack on parked Russian warplanes and various other attacks by both sides. He added that "Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields." The latest exchange is Trump's fourth known phone call with Putin during his second term in office. Trump has recently criticized Russia for continuing major attacks across Ukraine. On May 28, he said it would become clear "within two weeks" if Putin intends to end the invasion of Ukraine. Attention is on whether Trump will alter his role in peace negotiations and whether he will impose additional sanctions against Russia.
