WHILE many telly shows have fans hooked, a handful falter at the first episode.
As programmes such as The Traitors gain a mass following - with a demand that's so strong it's sparked a celebrity spin-off - others have viewers reaching for the remote to switch series' within seconds.

Here we take a look at the programmes that ended up on television's scrap heap - and which left fans boycotting them in their droves.
GENIUS GAME

Genius Game has been dubbed as 'ITV's most expensive flop'

David Tennant's new programme, Genius Game, has been hailed "ITV's most expensive flop in years."
Genius Game, hosted by the former Doctor Who star, received subpar viewing figures on its launch.
Recently the show, which cost more than £2.5million to make, plunged to measly average of 739,000 in ratings.
It was thrashed by BBC One's Race Across the World last Wednesday and beaten on Channel 4 by The Sun's documentary, Madeleine McCann: The Unseen Evidence.
A television insider said: 'The Genius Game was a reflection of ITV's rush to create the next big challenge show following the huge success of The Traitors.
"They chose Tennant as he's such a household name, although his not-insubstantial fee also inflated the cost of making the programme. Yet despite pumping so much money into the show, it hasn't delivered ratings wise.'
DISTRACTION

Distraction was a short-lived game show, fronted by Jimmy Carr.
It aired on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2004 and kicked off with four contestants, who tackled a series of challenges.
The UK version was the flagship, but it was cancelled after two series.

One game show hopeful even claimed they were forced to drink their own urine in a scene which never made it to screen.
NAKED JUNGLE

Naked Jungle was never recommissioned
This was a one-off show, which was never recommissioned.
It was even voted "one of the worst British television programmes ever" by a Radio Times poll in 2006.
Back in 2000, Keith Chegwin hosted the only series of the assault course game show based on children's show Jungle Run.
All the contestants were nudists and even Keith dropped his drawers for the occasion.
SHAFTED

Although Robert Kilroy-Silk's television career lasted across decades, the ill-judged 2001 quiz show Shafted did not.
The programme asked contenders to either share their winnings with their competitors or shaft them to take it all.
If both contestants chose to shaft each other, both left with nothing.
The 2001 series was given the boot after just four episodes on ITV in the November of that year.
24HR QUIZ

Celebrity 24 Hour Quiz was created by Richard Osman

This failed quiz show was hosted by Barry from EastEnders, otherwise actor Shaun Wallace.
ITV's first ever reality meets quiz show had three broadcasts throughout weekdays.
The show's creator - Pointless's Richard Osman - admitted: 'It didn't really work.'
It was broadcast between February and April 2004.
DON'T SCARE THE HARE

Don't Scare The Hare was a trippy TV show back in 2011

Narrated by Sue Perkins and hosted by Jason Bradbury, Don't Scare The Hare was a trippy game show on BBC One in 2011.
Players had to complete forest-themed games without rousing a giant animatronic rabbit for £15,000.
After ratings remained low, BBC's entertainment controller Mark Linsey said: "Obviously Hare is not going well.
"It was a huge risk we took – it's co-hosted by an animatronic hare – and while it's proved successful with children, we were hoping there would be enough knowingness within the show to draw in the adults.
'There wasn't enough of that, which is where it fell down."

Brookside star joins Casualty and is already filming scenes

Michael Starke, who played the role of Thomas "Sinbad" Sweeney on the long-running show, is now a cast member for Casualty. The 67-year-old is understood to have already started filming for the medical drama, news that is sure to excite soap fans across the UK. Brookside star Michael Starke signs up for Casualty and has already started filming According to The Sun, Nicola Bolton Management, Michael's representatives, said on Instagram: "Our MICHAEL STARKE @michael_starke_ has been busy down in Cardiff filming on @bbccasualtyofficial @bbc #casualty." This isn't the first time the actor has taken part in other soaps, as he took on the role of Jerry Morton in Coronation Street all the way back in 2007. During his stint on the ITV programme, his character opened up a kebab shop, but left the show after only 18 months. He has also appeared in other shows like Hollyoaks on Channel 4. What was Brookside all about, and when was it axed? According to IMDb , Brookside was a Liverpool-based soap opera which followed the "everyday life and times of the residents, friends, and enemies who live in the fictional suburban street of Brookside Close". The show aired for a staggering 21 years from 1982 until 2003, and is widely considered a classic among fans of British drama. Channel 4 has described the drama as a "ground-breaking" show which dealt with a range of controversial issues, including child abuse, murder, suicide and adultery. Recommended Reading: Brookside came to an end after suffering from declining ratings, shifting channel policies and a perceived decline in creative quality. Many die-hard fans have also blamed this decline on constant changes to the drama's scheduling and the shift to more sensationalist stories later in its run. Casualty can be watched and streamed on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Christine McGuinness ‘went extremely quiet after fuss over her sexuality'

Christine McGuinness has said she went 'extremely quiet' and felt uncomfortable by the attention she received amid media stories about her sexuality. The TV personality and Paddy McGuinness announced in 2022 they had split after more than a decade of marriage, and earlier this year she quit Channel 4 programme Celebs Go Dating because 'the attention that brings is just too soon for me'. Blackpool-born McGuinness, 37, told the podcast How To Fail With Elizabeth Day that she has 'struggled more because of the attention around my sexuality' rather than dating men and women. 'It never mattered to me, which was why once me and my ex-husband were separated and I met people, I didn't properly date,' she added. 'As a teenager, I dated both men and women. My ex-husband knew. My family knew. It was never a secret for me. 'It was just a part of me and it was normal, so then when I was single again … that's what I'd done, but it was made such a big fuss of in the press, I almost went back into myself. 'I went extremely quiet, from feeling quite comfortable and happy and free. I almost was going backwards and I could feel myself shrinking and staying quieter because of the noise around it, it almost made me feel like, well, I must be doing something wrong because why would it be front-page news?' She explained that the attention has 'happened multiple times over three years' and she has not spoken about it before because of the focus on her. She added that wants to be 'able to date' and 'enjoy it', before adding: 'It shouldn't matter if they're male or female, it shouldn't matter what their gender is. I shouldn't really ever even have to explain in any way who I want to spend my time with. That's my business.' McGuinness also said she was told 'never discuss it ever', while others have urged her to 'talk about it'. She also said she was a 'free spirit', when asked if she want to give her sexuality a description. McGuinness also said: 'My experiences with women have been lovely and it's not like women are better or worse. It's simply that the connection for me is different.' The former The Real Housewives of Cheshire star also spoke about 'heartbreak' with one woman who she was with for two years. 'We actually left it very, very mutual. It was just that she was from (Czechia) so … she just couldn't move over here and I couldn't just get her move over there, so we left and it was really sad,' she also said. 'It took me a while to feel comfortable to then go with a man, but the next person was of course, my ex-husband (Paddy) and I felt safe with him.' However, she said she 'can't bring myself to feel comfortable with another man in that kind of way'. She married former Top Gear presenter Paddy in 2011 and they share daughter Felicity, and twins Leo and Penelope. All three children have autism and McGuinness confirmed Paddy continues to live with them. McGuinness has fronted Christine McGuinness: Unmasking My Autism, which was focused on her own condition, experiences raising her children, and other families seeking support. She also said she wants 'someone for me' for her next relationship, adding: 'I want that emotional connection where I can be open and I can talk, and I can be vulnerable and I can ask for help, but I can also have a laugh and just have a good time. 'It's not like I'm trying to find a new family unit or someone to come in and be a step-parent.' McGuinness has also been on reality shows The Real Full Monty, Pilgrimage, Celebrity MasterChef and Celebrity Hunted.
