Gibo Teodoro still enjoys Marcos' trust, confidence — Palace
This came after it was reported that the Defense chief has a Maltese passport, a matter that was already clarified by the Department of National Defense (DND).
''The President gives the confidence to Secretary Gibo. Secretary Gibo still enjoys the trust and confidence of the President,'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said in a briefing.
DND spokesperson Assistant Secretary Arsenio Andolong said the passport was already renounced following a media report questioning Teodoro's alleged dual citizenship, which is prohibited for Cabinet members.
'The alleged existing Maltese passport of Sec. Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr. was surrendered and renounced prior to the filing of his certificate of candidacy in 2021 for the 2022 elections,' Andolong said in a separate statement.
Andolong also said the existence of the passport was disclosed to the Bureau of Immigration and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) prior to the 2022 elections, as well as to the Committee on Appointments prior to their confirmation of his appointment as Defense Secretary. — BAP, GMA Integrated News

Bato to skip Marcos 4th SONA: Ayokong makipag-plastikan
Senator Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa said Thursday that he will not be attending the fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on July 28. Dela Rosa, a staunch ally of the Duterte family, confirmed this in a phone interview with reporters, emphasizing that he does not want to pretend to be on good terms with certain officials from Malacañang and the House of Representatives during the event. 'Ayaw ko magkipag-plastikan. Alangan naman pupunta 'ko doon na nakasimangot. Pangit, diba? Alangan naman pupunta ko doon na pa-smile-smile kahit na masama ang loob 'ko sa kanila,' the senator said. (I don't want to pretend and go there frowning. That's not good to look at. Why would I go there with a fake smile when I'm upset with them?) 'So, ano pa? Makipag-plastikan ako doon sa mga congressman na masama ang loob ko. Hindi naman lahat ng congressman, pero may mga congressman doon na masama ang loob ko at mayroon ding mga tao sa Malacañang na masama ang loob ko. So, bakit ako makipag-plastikan?' (For what purpose? I don't want to pretend in front of congressmen I'm upset with. Not all congressmen, but there are those in the Congress and Malacañang I have something against. Why should I pretend to be okay with them?) Dela Rosa also clarified that skipping Marcos' SONA this year was his personal decision, and other senators in the so-called Duterte bloc may decide on the matter on their own. The 'Duter7' senators include Dela Rosa, Bong Go, Robin Padilla, Rodante Marcoleta, Mark Villar, Camille Villar, and Imee Marcos. Asked for his expectations on what will be included in the presidential speech, Dela Rosa floated the possibility of Marcos mentioning the supposed arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the war on drugs. 'I will expect na i-insist ni Secretary Bersamin 'yung sinabi niya,' he quipped. (I expect that [Executive] Secretary [Lucas] Bersamin will insist on what he previously said.) The police officer-turned-senator was referring to an earlier statement by Bersamin that Dela Rosa could be arrested once the ICC issues a warrant of arrest. Malacañang, meanwhile, said it has yet to receive communication in that regard. Dela Rosa also said that he no longer has expectations from the Marcos administration. 'Wala na akong expectation sa gobyerno na ito. Hope na lang, hope. Ayaw ko nang umasa. Wala na lang ako, nag-hope na lang ako na mag-focus sila na pagandahin ang buhay ng Pilipinas. 'Yun na lang ang aking hope,' he said. (I have no more expectations from this government. I just hope. I don't want to expect anymore. I just hope that they will focus on making the life of the Filipinos better. That's my only hope.) Dela Rosa served as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the Duterte administration and was the chief implementer of the war on drugs. Former president Rodrigo Duterte is now detained at The Hague, Netherlands over charges of crimes against humanity for the extrajudicial killings during the controversial drug war. — RF, GMA Integrated News

Sara Duterte: Marcos economic team should've prepared for Trump tariff
The US flag, decreasing stock graph and word 'Tariffs' are seen in this illustration taken, April 4, 2025. REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration Vice President Sara Duterte said the economic team of the Marcos administration should have prepared for US President Donald Trump's imposition of a higher 20% tariff rate on Philippine goods exported to America as the move was already "expected." "Well, dapat 'yan unang-una, expected na darating na 'yan, 'di ba? Kasi pag-upo pa lang ni President Trump, ay nagsabi na siya na isa 'yan sa mga priority niya na gagawin," Duterte said in an interview in The Hague, Netherlands on Tuesday. (Well, that should have been expected from the very beginning because as soon as President Trump came into office, he already said that it was one of his priorities to implement that.) "So, dapat meron nang plano ang ating economic team kung ano ang gagawin doon sa mga i-impose na tariffs sa ating pagnenegosyo sa United States of America," she added. (So, our economic team must have prepared a plan on what to do with the tariffs that will be imposed on our goods exported to the United States of America.) The Vice President also said that a "core team" from that economic team should have been coordinating with their counterparts in the US government. GMA News Online has requested comment from Malacañang regarding the Duterte's remarks, but it has yet to respond as of posting time. Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs of the Philippines Frederick Go said last week that the Philippine government was taken aback by Trump's move to slap a higher tariff rate on the country's goods exported to America, despite earlier efforts to haggle for lower duties for products imported from Manila. "We are in receipt of the United States latest reciprocal tariff for the Philippines. We are concerned that, notwithstanding our efforts and constant engagements, the US still decided to impose a 20% tariff on Philippine exports," Go said. Nonetheless, he said the Philippines "remains committed to continuing negotiations in good faith to pursue a better and more comprehensive bilateral trade agreement or if possible, an FTA (free trade agreement)." President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and US President Donald Trump are set to have their first bilateral meeting in Washington next week. Details of the summit between the two leaders are still being finalized, according to Foreign Affairs Secretary Theresa Lazaro, but defense and security amid increasing Chinese aggression in the disputed South China Sea, US tariffs, and economic cooperation are likely to figure in their discussions. — VDV, GMA Integrated News

Palace welcomes Marcos' improved trust rating
Malacañang on Tuesday welcomed the recent SWS survey indicating an increase in the trust rating of President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the President's trust rating grew despite political noise and attempts to discredit his administration. She said the respondents of the survey had clearly seen what Marcos is doing for the country. 'Kahit na sobrang panggigiba sa kanya ng mga obstructionists na ito na walang magawa kundi manira nang manira at hindi makita ang magagandang trabaho ng Pangulo, sa ating palagay 'yung mga taong mga respondents dito na siyang naging parte ng survey na ito ay nakita nila kung ano ba ang ginagawa ng Pangulo at ng administrasyon,' Castro said. (Even though these obstructionists are so destructive to him that they can do nothing but destroy and destroy and not see the good work of the President, we think that the respondents here who were part of this survey saw what the President and the administration are doing.) She added that the public recognizes the administration's initiatives and programs that are aimed at improving the lives of Filipinos. 'Masaya na nakikita na po ng taumbayan ang ginagawa ng administrasyon,' Castro said. (I'm happy that the people are seeing what the administration is doing.) Marcos' trust rating increased by 10 percentage points from 38% in May to 48% in June, an SWS survey commissioned by Stratbase showed. According to the survey conducted among 1,200 Filipino adults, 48% expressed a great deal of trust in the President, while 30% had little trust and 21% were undecided. The respondents were asked to assess their level of trust in key government officials using the following categories: very much, somewhat much, undecided if much or little, somewhat little, and very little. The survey has a ±3% margin of error. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
