Jeremy Sochan to miss EuroBasket due to calf injury, expected to be ready for Spurs camp

NBC Sports4 days ago
Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan was in Poland training with the nation's national team when he suffered a calf injury that will keep him out of EuroBasket, the Polish Basketball Federation announced.
'I am very disappointed, but due to a calf muscle injury, unfortunately, I will not be able to play for Poland at this year's EuroBasket,' Sochan said in a statement accompanying the announcement. 'I've been working hard for this over the last few months, and the time I trained and played with the national team was amazing. It's a special group and I really enjoyed being a part of this team. Fortunately, the doctors predict that I will be fully healthy by the time the start of the preparation camp before the upcoming NBA season. I want to thank my teammates, coaches and the whole staff, especially the fans in Poland, for their support. I appreciate it very much and know that although I will not be able to be with you, I will support Poland with all my heart.'
Sochan is headed back to San Antonio to continue his recovery, which, as he said, is not expected to keep him out of training camp.
'In the face of injury, Jeremy received professional help in Poland,' Spurs GM Brian Wright said in the statement. 'Cooperation with the staff and management of KoszKadry has always been exemplary. In this situation, however, the best option is to return to San Antonio.'
Sochan's mother is from Poland, which led to his connection with their national team. Sochan was the only full-time NBA player on the Polish roster, but they also have Igor Milicic, who played last season at Tennessee and is set to be in the Philadelphia 76ers training camp on an Exhibit 10 contract.
Sochan, 22, averaged 11.4 points and 6.5 rebounds a game for the Spurs last season and is extension eligible before the season starts (if no deal is reached, the former No. 9 pick will hit restricted free agency next summer).

Is 2025 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Payton Pritchard ready to start for the Boston Celtics?

Is 2025 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Payton Pritchard ready to start for the Boston Celtics next season? There have been reports out there suggesting that the Celtics floor general has garnered the role this coming 2025-26 NBA regular season, edging out new arrival Anfernee Simons for the job, despite Simons having that role in his former home with the Portland Trail Blazers. Does it make sense for Pritchard to start for Boston next season, or would it make more sense to showcase a player the Celtics are reportedly trying to trade before the 2026 deadline. One person who knows what it is like to man the point for Boston is Celtics floor general alum Jeff Teague, who took some time on a recent episode of his "Club 520" podcast to talk over whether he thinks Fast PP is up for the challenge. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what he had to say about Pritchard at the point in a starting role next season. Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on: Spotify: iTunes: YouTube:

'NBA 2K' has a fascinating WNBA integration coming

The upcoming version of NBA 2K will try something for the first time and it is incredibly exciting for folks who are fans of men's and women's hoops. For fans who play MyTEAM on NBA 2K26 when it comes out, they'll have the opportunity to collect WNBA Player Cards for the first time. They can pair both current and historic WNBA stars with current and historic NBA players on the same team. The press release announced that players can "mix and match" stars from both league and gave examples like pairing Paige Bueckers and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or throwing a lob from Sheryl Swoopes to Shaquille O'Neal. 'MyTEAM is where competition meets a basketball fan's wildest imagination,' said Erick Boenisch, VP of NBA Development at Visual Concepts. 'By integrating the WNBA into one of our most popular modes, we're not only giving players the opportunity to customize their all-time dream rosters but shining a spotlight on some of the game's most iconic hoopers. We're looking forward to giving our players a new and deeper way to engage with the WNBA. But there is so much more coming to MyTEAM this year - from All-Star Team-Up to new weekly cash prizes in King of the Court, there have never been more ways to compete with friends and win big.' Per the release, attributes and badges function identically for WNBA and NBA players to ensure "balanced, consistent" gameplay. More: NBA 2K26 new rebound timer is an example of the game's larger problem You can watch the trailer, narrated by Buckers, above. Her avatar is wearing a Dallas Mavericks jersey and later, she is featured playing alongside Cooper Flagg. The trailer also features Reese and Shaq, who both played for LSU, wearing WNBA's Chicago Sky uniforms. Luka Dončić is seen playing alongside Brittney Griner. This is a lot of fun, and while it is currently only part of MyTEAM and not Play Now, it is still a really cool idea that should make for some awesome moments.

PSG 2-2 (4-3 PKs) Spurs: Champions League winners lift UEFA Super Cup to kick off new season

PSG erased Tottenham Hotspur's 2-0 lead late in the UEFA Super Cup final on Wednesday, equalizing in the 94th minute and then coming from behind again in the penalty shootout. Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero scored Spurs' goal either side of halftime — both from set pieces — and Thomas Frank's debut was off to a roaring start. Spurs didn't have much of the ball (just 26 percent on the night) but they were a constant threat on the counter for about an hour. Meanwhile, PSG had just four shots in the first half, none of which were on target. Pragmatic but practical, and necessary given the current injury situation (again, already). Two of PSG's subs, Kang-In Lee and Goncalo Ramos, scored the goals, in the 85th and 94th. Spurs had the lead early in the shootout as well after Vitinha sent his effort wide of the goal, but Van de Ven was denied by Lucas Chevalier and Tel hooked his wide in rounds 3 and 4. NUNO MENDES WINS IT FOR PSG 💥 — CBS Sports Golazo ⚽️ (@CBSSportsGolazo) August 13, 2025 Tottenham Hotspur, the newest Set Piece FC Frank is at it again, quietly assembling a squad full of big lads that don't have a problem imposing themselves on opponents. And what do you do with such a group of players? Get 'em forward, and get it in the mixer. Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso, Joao Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur and Cristian Romero all stand 6-foot-1 or taller, and it became very clear very quickly that Spurs intended to make good use of them on set pieces. Danso will serve as the long-throw specialist and should feature heavily if Frank persists with the three-man backline, which suits the whole trio very well. Set pieces were a hallmark of Brentford when Frank was in charge there, and it is clear after just one (semi-)competitive game at Spurs that normal service has resumed. The other positive (very closely related) is that Spurs are going to be incredibly annoying to play against this season. They're going to press a lot, they're going to go in for lots of hard challenges, and they're going to score lots of goals from set pieces when you feel they've created nothing otherwise. It was truly fantastic that Ange Postecoglou did what he did and won Tottenham Hotspur its first trophy in nearly two decades, but seeing Spurs so defensively organized, resilient and a little nasty right out of the gate just confirms that Daniel Levy was right to make the change. How did Spurs set up tactically in Thomas Frank's first game? Spurs played with three at the back (Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Kevin Danso) and Pedro Porro and Djed Spence provided width over the full length of the pitch. We didn't see any three- or five-man setups from Spurs during preseason and the change was partially forced upon Frank (long-term injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski), but the Dane decided that the best (and maybe only) place to move the ball forward against PSG was out wide. The midfield trio of Joao Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr is industrious but hardly creative. Richarlison and Mohammed Kudus were be tasked with running onto through balls in behind and getting on the end of crosses. Spurs were quite dangerous when they pressed, with so many committed and willing workers from front to back. What's next? Chevalier has been brought in just as Champions League hero Gianiluigi Donnarumma looks set to leave the club and likely to land in Manchester. Chevalier is expected to start against Spurs with a virtually unchanged team in front of him. OUT: Senny Mayulu (thigh) Tottenham Hotspur team news, focus Things are looking far less familiar for Tottenham Hotspur, where there is a new manager (Thomas Frank) a new $74-million man (Mohammed Kudus), and another legend of the club has departed (Son Heung-min). There are also a number of injuries (quite familiar, sadly) making matters more difficult for Frank right out of the starting gate. James Maddison is out for most, if not all, of the season after tearing his ACL in preseason; Dejan Kulusevski is still recovering from his patella (knee) fracture back in May; Dominic Solanke hasn't appeared in a preseason game since July 19; and the same since July 26 for Destiny Udogie. Who will provide the creativity? It certainly won't be Yves Bissouma, who was dropped by Frank for being late on a number of occasions this summer, according to the manager. OUT: James Maddison (torn ACL), Dejan Kulusevski (knee), Dominic Solanke (ankle), Destiny Udogie (hamstring) PSG vs Tottenham Hotspur prediction PSG are the better side, the more settled side and the more accomplished side. They also don't have any key injuries to deal with at this point of the season, and they looked sharp at the Club World Cup indicating a strong desire to kick on and win even more this season. PSG 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur.
