
Olympian Sharlene Mawdsley 'devastated' following sudden passing of her father Thomas
Olympian Sharlene Mawdsley is 'devasted' following the sudden and tragic passing of her father Thomas (Tucker), aged 67, on Tuesday June 3.
The Tipperary native paid a heartfelt tribute to her Dad on social media saying "I am devastated to say my Dad has passed away. I have no words right now to truly capture how I feel. I will forever love and miss him so much.
"I would like to thank everyone who has been so kind and supportive at this time, from the emergency services to our great neighbours and wider community, and so many friends.
"I would please ask media, in particular, for privacy and understanding at this time."
Sharlene had been in Philadelphia a competing in Michael Johnson's Grand Slam Track event over the weekend where she achieved a season's best time of 51.12s to finish in sixth overall in the long sprints category and earn $15,000USD.
Thomas is predeceased by his father and adored by his brother Billy. He will be sadly missed by his loving partner and Sharlene's mother Louise, his mother Sally, sons, daughters, grandchildren, siblings and extended family and friends.
He will repose at Meehan's Funeral Home in Newport on Friday June 6 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm with removal to the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer in Newport. Requiem Mass will take place on Saturday June 7th at 11.30am with burial in Rockvale Cemetery in Newport.

His funeral mass will take place on on Saturday at 11.30am with burial afterwards in Rockvale Cemetery Newport. Paying tribute on Athletics Ireland CEO Hamish Adams said: 'On behalf of all the Athletics Ireland family I express our sincere condolences to the Mawdsley family. Sharlene, we are here to support you during this difficult period and our thoughts and prayers are with you.' Earlier this year, Sharlene competed in the mixed 4x400m relays in the first round at the World Relays in Guangzhou, China. She was joined by her Irish teammates Conor Kelly, Rhasidat Adeleke and Cillín Greene, who combined to finish second and earn a spot in the World Athletics Championships later this year. She also narrowly lost out on a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay event at last year's Olympic games in Paris.
