Mykhailo Mudryk charged by FA over anti-doping rule violation

An FA statement said: 'We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with anti-doping rule violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of regulations three and four of the FA's anti-doping regulations.

'As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.'
Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years under the FA's anti-doping regulations.
Under Regulation 77, a four-year ban would result if the violation related to a non-specified substance, unless the player or his camp could establish that the violation was not intentional.
Where the violation relates to a specified substance and the FA can establish the violation was intentional, a four-year ban would also apply.
Specified substances are those considered more likely to have been consumed by an athlete for a purpose other than the enhancement of sports performance.
A shorter ban could apply depending on other circumstances, such as whether it could be proved there was no intention to violate the regulations and whether the violation occurred in or out of competition.
Chelsea have been approached for comment.
Earlier this month Mudryk's number 10 shirt was given to Cole Palmer for next season, leaving the Ukraine international without a squad number at Stamford Bridge.
In a statement issued at the time of his suspension, Mudryk said the positive sample had come as 'a complete shock' and he had 'not done anything wrong,' with Chelsea adding the player had 'never knowingly used any banned substances'.
The result was returned shortly after he had been away on international duty with Ukraine in November, during which time the banned substance is reported to have been administered.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca initially said the winger was unavailable through illness to explain a four-game period that he was absent from the team prior to the suspension being made public.

Mudryk last played for the club in a 2-0 win away to Heidenheim in the Conference League on November 28. He was then an unused substitute for the 3-0 Premier League win against Aston Villa three days later.
His last appearance in the league came on November 10 as a second-half substitute in a 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal.
Mudryk's time at Stamford Bridge has been dogged by inconsistency on the pitch.
Brief flourishes of talent have been interrupted by periods of limited impact while his finishing and delivery from wide have frustrated supporters since his £88million move from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023.
He has scored just 10 goals in 73 appearances in all competitions and has rarely held down a regular place in the team.
Under Maresca his chances have been even more limited with most of his games coming in the cup competitions and in Europe, with just a single Premier League start in August's 6-2 win over Wolves.

Man Utd continue ridiculous Premier League record as Manchester City pay penalty

Premier League fixtures for 2025-26 have been released and Manchester United have continued a quirky run on the opening day as they take on Arsenal and Old Trafford The Premier League fixtures for 2025-26 have been revealed and Manchester United have again been drawn at home for their opening match of the season. It marks the ninth season in succession that the Red Devils have kicked off their campaign at Old Trafford. United welcome Arsenal on the opening weekend in the first Sunday 4.30pm clash of the season. There may be more difficult challenges in the Premier League these days, but at least at the Theatre of Dreams, Ruben Amorim's side can look to the draw they earned in March. ‌ United have claimed victory in six of their last eight games on the opening day where they have had home advantage. Last term, United got off the mark with three points when Joshua Zirkzee bagged a late winning goal on his debut. ‌ Brighton and Crystal Palace have both proven to be the spoiler in recent years however. The Seagulls earned a 2-1 in 2022, while the Eagles came away 3-1 victors in 2020. And while United have enjoyed a consistent run of home matches to start their season, it means local rivals Manchester City have been dealt the opposite hand. The duo cannot play at home on the same weekend and are paired together to avoid a clash, much like Liverpool and Everton. That is to prevent the overburdening of policing and travel resources. Even outside of such pairings, the Premier League fixture selection is designed to avoid having clubs from the same area travelling on the same train lines across the Football League and the Premier League to avoid 'pinch points' on rail and road networks. City have managed the task of being on the road in the opening fixture pretty well, however. Only Tottenham, under Nuno Espirito Santo, have claimed victory against the Citizens with wins coming against Chelsea, Burnley, West Ham, Wolves, Arsenal, Brighton. The eight-times Premier League champions last played at home on the opening day against Sunderland in 2016. That day saw a late Paddy McNair own-goal earn a City victory after goals from Sergio Aguero and Jermain Defoe. ‌ United's last away trip on the first weekend of the season, also saw three points for a Manchester side. Goals from Marcus Rashford, Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young secured a 3-1 win over Bournemouth 3-1 as Chris Smalling netted an own-goal. Despite the benefit of being able to play their first game at home, United have been deemed to have the most difficult start in the Premier League. Games against Fulham, Burnley, Manchester City and Chelsea follow the Arsenal clash, with a trip to Liverpool scheduled in October.

Trent Alexander-Arnold hails ‘incredible' Real Madrid debut despite stalemate

The former Liverpool defender was included in the starting line-up at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium along with Dean Huijsen – a summer signing from Bournemouth – but they and their team-mates had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Asked about the experience afterwards, Alexander-Arnold told DAZN: 'An incredible day. To have made a debut for Real Madrid is something, I think, almost every player dreams of, so to be able to achieve it is huge for me. ☝️🤍 It's a @realmadriden debut kind of day! — Real Madrid C.F. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 (@realmadriden) June 18, 2025 'Of course, there's some disappointment in there to have not won the game. It's the mentality you need to have as a Real Madrid player, to want and expect to win every game that you playing, so disappointed not to do that. 'But there were a lot of positives, especially in the second half.' The England international was warmly received by the Madrid fans as he played the opening 65 minutes, and thanked them for their support. He added: 'Incredible. I felt the support from the moment I signed with the club, to be honest. Absolutely sensational. Our fanbase is global, truly global, all over the world and you feel it every single day, the fans at training grounds and the hotel, all over social media as well. New beginnings. @realmadrid | #FIFACWC — FIFA Club World Cup (@FIFACWC) June 18, 2025 'The support is incredible, so a huge thank you for that. Of course, we dominated the stands today as well, which was incredible. The support is truly amazing.' If Alexander-Arnold's debut was one of the talking points before the game, it was goalkeeper Bono who was Al Hilal's hero as he saved a late penalty to deny the Spaniards victory. The 34-year-old Morocco international kept out Federico Valverde's stoppage-time spot-kick to ensure it finished all square in the Group H opener in what was a first game in charge for both Madrid boss Xabi Alonso and opposite number Simone Inzaghi. Ruben Neves converted a 41st-minute penalty to cancel out Gonzalo Garcia's opener, but his efforts would have counted for little had it not been for Bono's heroics. Rico Lewis was controversially sent off as Manchester City launched their Club World Cup campaign with a comfortable victory over Wydad Casablanca. Goals from Phil Foden – his first since January – and Jeremy Doku at each end of the first half proved enough for City to see off the Moroccan side 2-0 in Philadelphia. But the Group G encounter ended on a sour note for the Premier League outfit as Lewis was shown a straight red card for catching Samuel Obeng in the face following a challenge two minutes from time. Lincoln Financial Field, home of the reigning Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles, was at nowhere near its 67,594 capacity, but the atmosphere generated – mainly the Wydad Casablanca supporters – by the 37,446 present was still lively.

Thomas Frank calls for unity at Tottenham after replacing Ange Postecoglou

Speaking for the first time since replacing Ange Postecoglou – who was sacked just weeks after delivering Spurs their first trophy in 17 years – the former Brentford boss said there would need to be 'alignment' among the club's hierarchy, including with chairman Daniel Levy, if the team is to build on their Europa League triumph. Spurs will play in the Champions League for the first time since 2022 courtesy of victory over Manchester United in Bilbao in May, despite recording their lowest finish of 17th in the Premier League. The Frank Philosophy 🧠 — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) June 18, 2025 It was this fact, together with 22 league defeats, that persuaded Levy to dismiss Postecoglou and turn to Frank. 'I've only heard good stuff about all the people here, the training ground, the players,' Frank told the club's website. 'It's a good squad. It's an exciting, massive club with massive potential. So, it's just super, super exciting. 'I had very good conversations and meetings with Daniel Levy, (chief executive) Vinai Venkatesham and (technical director) Johan Lange where we discussed everything in depth, details about the club structure, processes, and of course I came with my views on things, how I saw it, my ideas, and the way I want to do things and how I try to build a team and a club.' There has been open hostility between Levy and supporters in recent seasons with fans largely directing their ire at the chairman rather than Postecoglou last season as the defeats mounted. Levy has at different times been accused of failing to invest in the team and has been blamed for the club's apparent drift since they reached the Champions League final in 2019. Frank is Spurs' fifth permanent appointment since Mauricio Pochettino, who led them to that final in Madrid, was sacked five months later. 'If you want to do something quick, you can go alone,' said Frank, who led Brentford to 10th place last season following finishes of 13th, ninth and 16th in their three previous Premier League seasons. He also brought them into the top flight via the play-offs in 2021. 'If you want to do something big or achieve something big, you go together. So, it's definitely about doing things together – me, the staff, the players. 'I think alignment is key, from top to bottom. Of course it starts from Daniel, Vinai, Johan, and me, and the more the four of us can be aligned, just like a unit, an unbreakable unit, the stronger we'll be. 'There'll be ups and downs. Right now, it's a fairytale. Everyone's happy, the sun is shining, it's fantastic.'
