Jyoti Malhotra Spying Case: Decoding Pakistans Operation Ayyaar Against India
At the time when India was targeting terrorist hideouts in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, Pakistan was running a secret operation against India that can be called 'Operation Ayyaar'. In today's DNA, Rahul Sinha, Managing Editor, of Zee News, analysed Pakistan's secret Operation Ayyaar against India. 'Ayyaar' means a person who is skilled at changing their appearance, a person who is skilled at deception. From the 9th to the 12th century, warriors who worked as spies from Iran to Iraq were called Ayyaar. Ayyaar, or you could say spies, are mainly of two types: one is patriotic and are those who live in other countries and spy for their own country and the second type of spies are those who live in their own country and spy for the enemy.
In the last 5 days, 11 Ayyaar have been arrested on charges of espionage from three states of the country: Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. Among them are 9 men and 2 women. Many revelations are being made in the Pakistan Ayyaar module that is being exposed but the most shocking revelation has been about Pakistan's hybrid espionage nexus because this is the first time that an influencer has been accused of espionage.

And just as these nations sit next to each other geographically, some of their top generals sat in neighbouring conference rooms inside the Shangri-La Singapore, taking part in simultaneous sessions late on Saturday afternoon on topics ranging from defence innovation solutions to regional crisis-management mechanisms. General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Defence Staff, talked about India drawing a new red line of intolerance against terror. Referring to Operation Sindoor, General Chauhan said, 'What India has done, politically, they have drawn a new red line of intolerance against terror.' "I hope, this particular operation, it's basically lying in military domain, that should bring about some lessons for our adversary also, and hopefully they learn that this is a limit of India's tolerance," Gen Chauhan said. "We have been subjected to this proxy war of terror for almost two decades and more, and we lost lot of want to put an end to it," he said. Operation Sindoor was launched early on May 7 to destroy nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead. All subsequent retaliations to Pakistani offensives were carried out under this operation. The four-day military conflict between India and Pakistan ended with an understanding on stopping the military actions on May 10. General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Pakistan Armed Forces, warned of what could happen should another clash occur. "The strategic stability with the lowering of this threshold to the dangerous levels if next time such a conflict occurs and the cities are targeted first and the borders become irrelevant... there could be a possibility that before the international community intervenes because of the restricted or constricted times window, the damage and destruction may have already taken place," he said at the event. General Mirza told the Channel in a wide-ranging interview that Pakistan is taking on terrorism on its soil and working to tackle cross-border terrorism from groups based in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan. Mirza said terrorism has cost his country hundreds of billions of dollars and tens of thousands of lives. In the wake of the recent hostilities, both sides have moved from weapons to words, with India dispatching several delegations to visit more than 30 capitals across the world. A similar effort by Pakistan is set to start on June 2. "India doesn't depend on one nation for its defence needs,' said General Chauhan. "It's a number of capabilities which were put together, and most of these capabilities were put to good effects,' he was quoted as saying. General Mirza told the Channel that his country's capabilities include weapons from China and many other places. "I have military equipment from the US. I have military equipment from Turkiye. I have military equipment from Italy. I have military equipment from the UK," he listed. "We have the equipment from all equipment-producing countries." The countries continue to maintain that the use of nuclear weapons was never on the table, with Pakistani officials, including General Mirza dismissing reports that Islamabad called a meeting of the National Command Authority, the body that oversees Pakistan's nuclear arsenal.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is leading an all-party delegation to world capitals to put forth India's stance against terrorism, on Monday condemned the Colorado incident, which the local police termed as a 'targeted terror attack". In an X post, Tharoor mentioned that he and the other members of the other Indian delegations were concerned about the attack in Boulder, but were relieved that there was no loss of lives. Four women and four men between 52 and 88 years old were transported to hospitals. The suspect in the attack was named as Mohamed Soliman, who was hospitalised shortly after the incident. Other than the local police, FBI Director Kash Patel described the incident as a 'targeted terror attack," and Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said it appeared to be 'a hate crime given the group that was targeted." Priyanka Chaturvedi of the Shiv Sena (UBT) drew stark difference between India and its neighbour Pakistan, saying, while India focuses on global trade and diplomacy, Islamabad is relentlessly using terrorism as a tool. 'We had a very successful presidency of G20. While we host the G20, Pakistan hosts the T20, the top 20 terrorists of the world," Priyanka Chaturvedi said in London. The Shiv MP, who is part for an all-party delegation travelling to key countries to put forward India's side of the story in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack, said, "The top terrorists will be found being hosted by the Pakistani state government. It's their stated policy," she added. Priyanka Chaturvedi contrasted the priorities of the two nations, saying, 'India is looking at trade, we are looking at economy, we are looking at commerce, while they (Pakistan) are looking at free terrorist arrangement across the world. That is what we need to expose.' 'You must go back home and see the documentary on how Osama bin Laden was taken out of Pakistan. He was hidden, actively financed, aided, trained, and supported, hidden from their so-called ally, the US. They shake hands with you, but they bite you on your back,' she said. The Shiv Sena (UBT) MP was referring to the US raid in 2011 that killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Praising Indian military's May 7 strike on nine terror hubs in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, Chaturvedi said armed forces killed over 100 terrorists and this prevented potential global attacks. 'You can imagine these terrorists were capable of carrying out 100 terror activities, not just in India, but across the world.' she said. The Sena MP further said, 'The world should be thanking the armed forces of India for doing what they did.' She also mentioned a speech by Pakistan's then Army chief General Asim Munir made days before the Pahalgam terror attack, in which he spoke about religious differences. Chaturvedi criticised this, saying that more than 200 million Indian Muslims stood with the Indian government and called for a strong response to terrorism. She also recalled the April 22 attack, where terrorists killed 26 civilians after asking their religion. She said, 'They attackers did this in the hope that they would divide this nation. India doesn't stand divided. India stands united, and it's our diversity that we celebrate, the diversity that brings this unity,' Chaturvedi added.
