Shopping for a 2025 Chevrolet Suburban? Here's What Experts Say You Should Look At Instead
Business Shopping for a 2025 Chevrolet Suburban? Here's What Experts Say You Should Look At Instead
It is America's oldest SUV, one that's been schlepping people and their lifestyle debris since 1935, five years before the first Jeep. Now entering its 90th year, the Chevrolet Suburban rules the roost for three-row, nine-passenger SUVs. Its tech is up-to-date, its towing capacity is strong, and its ability to comfort and coddle is surprising. And for 2025, it receives design updates, upgraded tech, and a more powerful diesel engine.
1935 Chevrolet Suburban Chevrolet
Chevrolet
The Suburban is basically a stretched Tahoe, with a longer wheelbase and overall length. Measuring some 226 inches long, 81 inches wide, and 76 inches tall, riding on a 134-inch wheelbase, the Suburban boasts 180 cubic feet of passenger space and anywhere from 42 to 145 cubic feet of cargo space. Payload is rated at up to 1,759 pounds, depending on what resides under the hood. Twenty-four-inch wheels are a new option.

The revamped interior is welcome, with a redesigned instrument panel that features an 11-inch driver instrument cluster and 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a wireless smartphone charger. A rear-seat entertainment system is optional. All three rows offer good legroom, and the low cargo area floor makes loading items easier than its competition.
2025 Chevrolet Suburban High Country Chevrolet
Chevrolet
Offered in LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country trim, the standard engine is a 5.3-liter overhead-valve V8 rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Other engine choices include a 6.2-liter overhead-valve V8 producing a healthy 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, or a turbocharged 3.0-liter double-overhead cam inline six diesel engine rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. A ten-speed automatic transmission is standard, with a choice of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
2025 Chevrolet Suburban High Country Chevrolet
Chevrolet
Towing is rated at 7,500-7,700 pounds with the 5.3-liter, 7,400-7,500 pounds with the 6.2-liter, and 7,800-8,100 pounds with the turbo-diesel. A Max Trailering package is optional and includes a high-capacity radiator and cooling fan, an integrated trailer brake controller, Hitch View, Hill Descent Control, Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering, and the Chevrolet Trailering App. Ground clearance is 8 inches unless you pop for the Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, optional on the RST, Z71, and High Country, which increases it to a maximum of 10.6 inches. Premier and High Country trims also get standard Magnetic Ride Control, which lends them a far better ride than you'd ever suspect. In fact, the Suburban handles better than its rivals, being far easier to handle. Still, as good as the 2025 Chevrolet Suburban is, you might wonder what the competition offers.

Ford Expedition Max

Ford
Excuse us if the unfortunately named Expedition Max sounds like a plus-size name – and not in a good way. Still, it's fitting, as the Expedition Max is an Expedition that's taken a swig of Miracle-Gro. Its 132-inch wheelbase, 222-inch length, and 80-inch width are slightly smaller than the Chevy's, but still sizable. There's 172 cubic feet of passenger volume and 34 to 122 cubic feet of cargo volume. Payload capacity trails as well, maxing out at 1,600 pounds. But it is roomy in all three rows, and even though it gives up a few cubic feet to the Chevrolet, it remains a commodious cabin. Its instrument panel features a 24-inch instrument display and a 13.2-inch center-mounted touchscreen that incorporates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, and built-in Google software.
2025 Ford Expedition Max Ford
Ford
Ford's 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 produces 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Opting for the Stealth Performance Package pumps that up to 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque on regular unleaded gasoline. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard with a choice of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Towing ranges from 6,000 pounds to 9,000 pounds with the optional Heavy-Duty Trailer Towing Package. Ground clearance is 8.7 inches.
Then there's the Stealth Performance Package that adds a sport-tuned suspension, dual exhaust, a revised final-drive ratio, 22-inch wheels, red brake calipers, a 22-speaker B&O audio system, panoramic roof, and a lot of blackout trim. An electronically limited-slip rear differential and adaptive dampers are optional. While this may transform the Expedition Max into a speedy straight-line runner, there's just too much mass to make this any kind of cornering champion. Comfy cruising is more its forte, but you knew that, right?
Jeep Wagoneer L
2025 Jeep Wagoneer L Carbide Jeep
Jeep
Boasting a $3,000 price reduction for 2025, the Jeep Wagoneer L's starting price is now a couple of hundred dollars less than the Suburban and a couple of grand less than the Expedition Max. While its 130-inch wheelbase is the shortest one here, the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer L is the largest of the SUVs here, measuring a substantial 227 inches long, 84 inches wide, and 79 inches tall. Despite the slightly larger overall size, the Wagoneer L trails the Suburban with 179 cubic feet of passenger space and 42-to-131 cubic feet of cargo space. But make no mistake, the differences are minor. There's still a whole mess of space inside, with spacious accommodations in all three rows. The instrument panel features a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, and an optional 10.3-inch touchscreen for the front seat passenger. The system comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, Amazon FireTV, Alexa, and a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot.
2025 Jeep Wagoneer L Series III Jeep
Jeep
Power comes from a 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder powerplant that provides 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive or full-time four-wheel drive with a single-speed transfer case. Payload is rated at 1,330 to 1,550 pounds, depending on model and drive system. Towing is rated at 5,870 to 10,000 pounds, depending on drive system and axle ratio. A Quadra-lift air suspension with semi-active damping and a solid or hollow stabilizer bar is optional. Ground clearance is 8.3 inches with the standard suspension or 10.7 inches with the air suspension. Despite its supple, soft ride, particularly with the air suspension, the Wagoneer proves easier to maneuver than you'd expect. Steering is perfectly weighted, although coming to a halt does take time, but it's always controllable and fairly prompt. It's a surprisingly competitive package against the Chevy.
Final thoughts
Overall, we still like the 2025 Chevrolet Suburban, but the 2025 Jeep Wagoneer L proves to be strong competition. Then again, so does the 2025 Ford Expedition L, particularly with the Stealth Performance Package. Each makes a compelling case, and we would encourage you to try all three before settling on the Suburban. With any of these, however, be careful if you opt for a high trim level, as they get close in price to tonier corporate cousins that, especially in the case of the Jeep, offer a notable upgrade in performance.

2026 Chevrolet Traverse Review: Expert Insights, Pricing, and Trims
At home at the (warehouse) club or off the grid, the 2026 Traverse is Chevrolet's 3-row SUV with a base price under $50,000. The baby Tahoe-looking model was redesigned for 2024 with chunkier styling and originally joined the Chevrolet lineup for 2009. The ute made its bones as a roomy conveyance that trades the capability of the Tahoe and Suburban for greater affordability, a tradition it continues today. Competitors include the Honda Pilot, Kia Telluride, and Hyundai Palisade. What's New Changes to the 2026 Traverse include: Polar White Tricoat and Sandstone Gray exterior colors Driver Confidence package gains key card. This physical card gives users access to the SUV and allows them to start it, like a similar card that comes with Teslas. For the Traverse LT, a rear camera mirror is available through the Driver Confidence package Iridescent Pearl Tricoat and Harvest Bronze Metallic exterior hues have been retired What We Think This 2026 Chevrolet Traverse brings meaningful upgrades over its predecessor, including a turbocharged engine that delivers more output than the outgoing V-6. Although fuel economy sees little improvement, the new powertrain offers better drivability and quicker acceleration. Inside, the Traverse features large displays and updated safety tech, and although the cabin design is conservative, its controls are intuitive and user-friendly. The off-road-oriented Z71 and the premium High Country trim add more variety to the 2026 Traverse range. However, the absence of a hybrid or plug-in hybrid option is a missed opportunity to compete with the Toyota Grand Highlander and Hyundai Palisade. Still, with its bold styling and improved performance, the Traverse is well positioned to compete in the crowded 3-row SUV segment. Top-Ranked Competitors: Hyundai Palisade Kia Telluride Honda Pilot Mazda CX-90 Performance The Traverse's 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine carries over into 2026 producing 315 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. Output is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission, and models are offered with standard FWD or available AWD. Towing capacity is pegged at 5,000 pounds. Accelerating to 60 mph should take roughly 7.0 seconds. MPGs and Range Fuel economy ratings come in at 20/27 mpg city/highway with FWD and 19/24 mpg with AWD. Curiously, driving range is better for the AWD model, but that's because it comes with a larger 21.7-gallon fuel tank. Range is 456 miles, while the FWD with its 19.4-gallon reservoir can go only 446 miles. The 2025 Telluride is both less efficient and comes with a smaller 18.8-gallon tank. Fuel economy ratings are 20/26 mpg city/highway with FWD and 18/23 mpg with AWD, while driving ranges are 414 miles and 376 miles, respectively. Safety Ratings and Features The Traverse performs well in safety testing: 2025 IIHS Top Safety Pick NHTSA 5-star overall rating Standard driver assist features include: Forward and reverse automatic emergency braking Adaptive cruise control Blind-spot monitoring Lane keeping Auto high-beams Cargo Space and Interior Room The Traverse boasts a spacious interior with room for up to eight passengers and a big cargo hold. The Telluride and Pilot deliver a skosh more legroom in the second and third rows, respectively. Technology Infotainment An 11.0-inch display sits before the driver, while infotainment is controlled through a 17.7-inch touchscreen with Google integration. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Chevy also includes a wireless phone charger and a half dozen USB ports throughout the cabin, and a 120-volt outlet is available. Sound System Base models feature a six-speaker setup. The Bose 12-speaker upgrade comes with a subwoofer. Available Upgrades Super Cruise self-driving technology is offered through the Enhanced Driving package that's available for LT and Z71, and standard on the High Country and RS. The suite also adds Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist, Driver Attention Assist, and an audio system upgrade. Value Think of the 2026 Traverse as a less premium GMC Acadia, with the same strong powertrain and roomy cabin. Standard features are not as plentiful, and fuel economy could be better for both, but the Chevrolet SUV is redeemed by its practical interior and lower prices. Recommended Trim Our pick in the Chevrolet Traverse lineup is the LT model with AWD, which emphasizes practical essentials. It comes equipped with a hands-free power tailgate, second-row captain's chairs, and a power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support.

With 38 miles of all-electric range, you can handle most commutes without burning any gas. The current offer doesn't require a down payment, which is another bonus for buyers trying to reduce upfront costs. Electric vehicles continue to get more affordable, and Chevrolet's 2024 Equinox EV is one of the most compelling options on the market. This all-electric compact SUV features up to 319 miles of range, an intuitive infotainment system, and a roomy interior that bests its gas-powered sibling. But if you qualify, these offers can make a big dent in the total cost of ownership, without denting your budget. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
