Rokid's AI-infused AR glasses wow China with script projection, smart ring control

augmented-reality (AR) device maker Rokid made waves on social media and in the stock market after its founder showed how the start-up's
artificial intelligence (AI) glasses could be used in a real-world setting.

While speaking last week at a government event in Rokid's hometown Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province,
founder Misa Zhu Mingming had his speech notes projected directly onto a pair of AR glasses he was wearing, instead of reading from a printed script or the prompter. He was able to flip through the virtual pages using a smart ring on his finger, according to a video shared by the company.
Rokid Glasses have become the latest example of AI being used to upgrade products made in China. Producers of smart glasses, along with manufacturers from industries such as robotics and electric vehicles , have found new momentum after adopting advanced open-source AI models from start-up DeepSeek
Rokid's presentation on February 18 sparked lively discussions online. Last weekend, the hashtag #ScriptOnGlassesTurnPagesWithRing became the tenth top-trending topic on Chinese microblogging site Sina.

The AI Wearable Index, which tracks 50 publicly-listed Chinese companies related to the sector, surged more than 10 per cent in the past five trading days, according to financial data provider Wind Information. Leading the group is Shanghai-listed Mingyue Optical Lens, which climbed over 10 per cent on Tuesday.

Rokid Glasses, the company's first AR glasses equipped with large language models (LLMs), are designed to recognise images, interpret words and navigate roads. At 49 grams, they weigh similar to a pair of regular sunglasses and have a battery life of around four hours after being charged for 10 minutes inside a case.

Photo: Xinhua China is willing to cooperate with Pakistan in industry, agriculture and mining, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Thursday, according to a readout of the meeting released by the Foreign Ministry. Beijing would continue to support Pakistan in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and combating terrorism, Wang told Dar, adding that China would continue to give priority to Pakistan in its regional diplomacy. Both countries should join hands to safeguard the multilateral trading system and oppose unilateral bullying, and upgrade the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, he said. Wang, on a five-day tour of South Asia, has visited India and Afghanistan, consolidating ties with China's neighbours to the south days before a leaders' summit in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a 10-nation Eurasian security and political grouping whose members include China, Russia, India, Pakistan, and Iran. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to China - his first visit in seven years - to attend the summit. At a press briefing on Thursday, Wang also welcomed Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to attend both the summit and activities to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, which will feature a massive military parade in Beijing. Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to attend the parade in the capital on September 3. During Thursday's meeting with Dar, Wang said the ironclad friendship between China and Pakistan stands the test of time, and that the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership is unbreakable. He also urged Pakistan to "effectively safeguard the safety of Chinese personnel, projects and organisations in Pakistan". Over the years China has poured billions of dollars into infrastructure projects in Pakistan under the Belt and Road Initiative. But security concerns have mounted, with Chinese workers repeatedly targeted in what Beijing has called terrorist attacks in the South Asian nation.
