Doeschate confirms Bumrah's

Birmingham [UK], June 30 (ANI): India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is 'available' for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, but it is yet to be decided whether he would feature in the final XI, considering his limited utilisation for the five-match series.
After the conclusion of the series opener, head coach Gautam Gambhir declared that the management would not budge on Bumrah's three-match utilisation. There were recommendations from fans and former cricketers to use Bumrah in all five Tests, but Gambhir quickly turned down the suggestion, claiming they were more concerned about his workload.
Numerous reports have suggested that India won't line up without Bumrah for the second Test. Doeschate addressed the concerns about Bumrah and declared that he is 'available' but the management is yet to make a call on whether to send him to the on-field action or not.
'Yeah, he's available for the game, obviously. We know from the start he's only going to play three out of the five. He's obviously had eight days to recover from the last Test. But given conditions and workload and how we think we can best manage for the next four games, we haven't made a call on that. We're going to see what the other guys are with their workload as well. So technically, yes, he's available. But we haven't made a decision on whether he's going to play or not yet,' Doeschate told reporters in a press conference.
India lined up with its pace spearhead, Bumrah, in the series opener at Headingley but still ended on the wrong side of the result. He dazzled in the first innings with figures of 5/83 but lost his magic and returned wicketless in the second.
With Bumrah's threat vanished into thin air, England trounced India by gunning down a 371-run target, their second-highest successful chase in the format. With the crafty quick available for two Tests out of four, Doeschate affirmed that they have to evaluate which surface would be optimum to get the best out of the 31-year-old.
'With Bumrah, he is ready to play. So, like I said in the very first question, it's how we manage these four tests. So if we feel like there's value in playing him in this Test, we'll make that call at the very last minute. But I'm talking about whether, how the pitch is going to play. Are we better off holding him back for Lord's and maybe Manchester or the Oval? So it's all those factors,' he said.
Bumrah returned to the nets on Saturday during the optional training session. The final call will be taken by India, considering how good Bumrah feels about his body going into the Test.
'But you've seen him train yesterday. He trained a little bit today. It's not like he's not fit to play. It's just trying to fit those puzzle pieces to get the most out of him, out of what we know we do have from him,' he added.
India's squad: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (VC & WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Jasprit Bumrah playing just three Tests in England decided during Champions Trophy: 'He will revisit plan if...'

The decision to have Jasprit Bumrah play just three Tests in the five-match series against England was taken during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, according to Team India's former strength and conditioning coach, Soham Desai. The ace speedster, 31, played all five Tests against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, he suffered a back spasm during the last Test in Sydney and as a result, he missed three months of competitive cricket, including the Champions Trophy, which India won. The decision to have Jasprit Bumrah play just three Tests against England was taken during the Champions Trophy. (AP) All signs are leading towards Bumrah missing the second Test against Edgbaston, even when India run the risk of going 0-2 down. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna disappointed in the first Test as they leaked runs consistently, easing the pressure on England. Bumrah bowled a total of 43.4 overs in Headingley. He returned with five wickets in the first innings. But he went wicketless in the second innings as England chased down 371 to gain a 1-0 lead. There was a seven-day gap between the first and second Tests. However, it seems like Bumrah would now be available for the third Test at Lord's Cricket Ground. Even when the hosts were 85 runs away from the target, India captain Shubman Gill refrained from bringing Bumrah into the attack, signalling that Bumrah's workload would be managed midway through the contest. Also Read: Gautam Gambhir takes Jasprit Bumrah aside; India pacer all but out of 2nd Test "When Bumrah couldn't make it to the Champions Trophy, India's Future Tours Programme (FTP) was studied, and it was decided that he would only play three Tests in England,' Soham Desai told the Times of India. Desai also revealed that management makes the initial plans regarding workload, but Jasprit Bumrah usually takes the final call. He also stated that the plan can always be revisited if the pacer feels there is a crucial juncture in the series. 'It then comes down to the team management and the bowler himself. It's their call. If Bumrah feels this is a crucial juncture in the series, he usually revisits the plan. But one must take into account the ordeal he faces mentally every time he breaks down,' Desai said. 'Set number of overs decided for Bumrah' The former India strength and conditioning coach also revealed that the management already decides the number of overs Bumrah should bowl in a Test even before the match begins. He revealed that Bumrah's back injury was triggered by him bowling a few extra overs without a breather during the Melbourne Test against Australia. 'I've known him since the ACL injury in 2014, during his days with the Gujarat domestic team. He is always trying to understand how his body responds to different circumstances,' Desai said. 'There is a set number of overs that is decided for Bumrah to bowl per Test. One can go five-seven overs beyond that limit, but what needs to be seen is how those extra overs are bowled. At the MCG in the previous Test series, he bowled those extra overs without much of a breather between spells. That caused a spike in his workload, which triggered the back injury in Sydney,' he added.

"There's more to come": Woakes cautions India of Stokes threat ahead of second Test

Birmingham [UK], June 30 (ANI): England's experienced pacer Chris Woakes has issued a captain Ben Stokes warning and cautioned about the threat that he poses with the Dukes ahead of the second Test against India at Edgbaston in Birmingham for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. With the ball, Stokes emerged as England's biggest threat in the first innings and controlled the flow of the game with his precise line and lengths. He rattled India's top order and scalped priceless wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Karun Nair and Shardul Thakur to return with figures of 4/66 in 15 overs. Stokes led from the front, putting in the hard yards with the ball to set the tone for England, who eventually forced India to surrender to a 5-wicket defeat by gunning down a 371-run target, their second-highest chase in the format. 'Yeah, he was incredible without him having played a load of cricket leading into the Test match, for him to come in and do what he did and hit his straps at a good pace. He's obviously fit and lean at the minute, looking really strong, which is great for us,' Woakes told reporters in a press conference. 'Obviously, we want him to play every test match that we play. But also, obviously, we want him to be that seamer who can bowl his overs and do what we know he can do, which he did last week. I thought he was amazing on a good pitch. He looked threatening every time he had the ball, the newer ball or the older ball. I think that's good to have. We all know what Stokes is capable of, but it's great to have your leader being able to grab the ball like that and showing you the way sometimes,' he added. Stokes didn't enjoy the luxury of much game time during the buildup to the series. After tearing his left hamstring in New Zealand back in December, Stokes returned in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe last month at Trent Bridge. To be fit and fire all cylinders for England this summer, Stokes took various measures, which included discarding alcohol during his last injury rehabilitation. Woakes believes the amount of hard work the English skipper has put in is echoed in his performance. 'So, yeah, we know what he's capable of, and it was great that he showed that last week at Headingley. It was really good. Yeah, I mean, he doesn't do things in half-measures, does he? When he's training, he's training. If he has time off, he has time off. But when he's there and he's doing his work, it's a real pleasure to watch sometimes,' Woakes said. 'Yeah, I could sense it was coming. He's certainly been training hard. You can see the physical state he's in. He's in really good condition. I think, obviously, the injuries that he's had, he's probably just doubled down on his fitness to make sure he's in the best shape possible to be able to lead this team at his best,' he continued. 'He certainly did that last week, and hopefully, there's more of that to come for the rest of this series. I look at the best players in the world, and they're always trying to get better, and he's always been the same, Ben,' he added. Ahead of the second Test, which is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday, England named an unchanged XI with hopes of getting a firm grip on the series. India's assistant coach Ten Doeschate drops hints on India's probable XI for second Test against England

Birmingham [UK], June 30 (ANI): Ahead of the second Test at Edgbaston on July 2, India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate on Monday shed light on players that are likely to be included in the playing XI for the second Test of the five-match series. India will take on England in the second Test of the five-match series at Edgbaston, Birmingham, which will be played from July 2 to 6. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Ten Doeschate hinted that left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and spinner Kuldeep Yadav are the likely players who can get a chance to feature in the playing XI for the visitors in the Edgbaston Test. 'I think I've said yes to every single player. Again, going back to the spin combination, if we are going to go two spinners, Arshdeep provides a little bit more control. You've got a left-armer running in over the wickets, if we do want to put our eggs in that basket. I don't know if you saw the seamers, they all had a good trot out today. We believe that they're all present and eligible for selection. Looking over the five series, we need to manage the five seamers effectively. We do have the out-and-out seamers. But Arshdeep is definitely in the selection mix for this Test,' the assistant coach said. Furthermore, the 45-year-old stated that Nitish Kumar Reddy is their 'premium batting all-rounder' and has a very good chance of getting into the line-up for the second match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. 'He's very close to getting a game. He was fantastic in Australia. Coming into the team and playing the way he did. We just felt, on balance, for the last game, we wanted to go with the bowling all-rounder. We thought Shardul Thakur was slightly ahead on the bowling front. We're exploring ways to reconfigure the puzzle. We can get a batting all-rounder in, and Nitish is our premium batting all-rounder at the moment. I would say it's a very good chance to play this test,' he added. In the end, Ten Doeschate discussed Kuldeep Yadav's chances of featuring in the playing XI for the visitors in the Edgbaston Test. 'We'd love to get him into the team. Playing two all-rounders in the last game, we're desperate. It would have been nice to have a spin in the last game. Also, we're trying to make the best assessment of what we see in front of us. We know we're going to need three seamers in this game. It's just how you manage that 6-7-8 role. The guys are going to play that role. Whether we can fit Kuldeep in now or save him for later in the series, if the weather stays like I said, it should turn somewhere along the line. You talked about the number 6-7-8,' he concluded. Squads: India: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (VC & WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav. England: Ben Stokes (capt), Jofra Archer, Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes.
