Konstas out for five after being dropped twice on zero in tense West Indies Test

Bridgetown: Australia's second innings against the West Indies has started in unconvincing fashion, with Usman Khawaja out for 15 and his opening partner Sam Konstas removed for five in dramatic scenes at Kensington Oval.
Early in the final session on day two of the first Test in Barbados, Australia were 2-34 after 11 overs after the West Indies managed a 10-run advantage after both teams' first innings.
Konstas began his sixth Test innings nervously. He was dropped twice in three balls on zero – from the eighth and 10th delivery of his innings – by West Indies slips fielders John Campbell and Justin Greaves.
The 19-year-old could barely believe his luck as Khawaja walked down the pitch to try and calm his nerves. At one point, Konstas charged down the pitch but didn't get bat on ball as West Indian opening bowlers Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph charged in.
Khawaja, who made 47 runs in the first innings, perished in the ninth over after an inswinger from Alzarri Joseph trapped the left-hander in front.
At 3.28pm local time (5.28am AEST), Konstas' scratchy innings came to an end as he was bowled by Joseph for five runs off 38 balls. It was the second time in the match Joseph has taken Konstas' wicket after removing the teenager for three on day one.
From six Test innings, Konstas has 121 runs at an average of 20.16.
The West Indies have certainly given themselves a fighting chance of recording back-to-back Test wins over Australia for the first time since 1999 after managing a narrow first innings lead in Barbados.

‘Untapped potential': Selwyn Cobbo contract circus is over after Broncos winger signs with the Dolphins for 2026

Selwyn Cobbo has signed a one-year deal to join the Dolphins next season in a move that will add extra spice to the rivalry between the NRL newcomers and crosstown rivals the Broncos. The Dragons and Cowboys had been interested in his services after the off-contract winger fell out of favour at Red Hill, with Cobbo inking a one-year deal that could see him become a huge target when the Perth Bears enter the competition in 2027. Cobbo, 23, was in contention for the Maroons squad earlier this year but now finds himself in reserve grade, with the Broncos recently signing Grant Anderson and extending outside backs Kotoni Staggs and Josiah Karapani. He joins an all-star backline at the Dolphins that is firing under new coach Kristian Woolf, with Cobbo repeatedly stating that he wanted to stay at the Broncos. But the club couldn't find the money to keep the prolific try scorer who made his NRL debut in 2021 and has played six matches for Queensland. 'The Dolphins have always said we are about continuing to build a roster that will make us one of the top teams in the NRL,' Dolphins chief executive Terry Reader said. 'Selwyn is an accomplished player who has done some amazing things at both Origin and NRL level already. 'But we believe he has untapped potential to go to even greater heights in our game and are excited about what he can do in a Dolphins jersey.'

Selwyn Cobbo set to walk out on Broncos as massive bomb drops

Selwyn Cobbo has reportedly made a call to walk out on the Broncos. In a saga that has stretched on for months, the Queensland State of Origin star is now set to leave the club at the end of the 2025 NRL season, Code Sports reports. The Broncos have a salary cap squeeze following the re-signing of Adam Reynolds and Kotoni Staggs, resulting in Cobbo being offered a new deal worth just $300,000 per season. There was yet another sign that Cobbo wouldn't remain with the club when the club announced the re-signing of Josiah Karapani. Limited-time offer > Cobbo was in State of Origin contention just a few weeks ago but has fallen out of favour, with the star outside back dropped to reserve grade and now seemingly set to leave the club at the end of the year. Karapani has taken his spot on the wing and scored two crucial tries in the comeback win over the Sharks last week, with his solid form earning him a new two-year deal. It comes as Cowboys coach Todd Payten confirmed his interest in signing Cobbo, but only for the right price. The Courier Mail reports Cobbo has not yet signed a deal with a rival club. Payten believes the Cowboys have the right culture to help revive Cobbo's stalled NRL career after the former Origin and Kangaroos flyer was dropped by Brisbane. However, he is reluctant to engage in a bidding war for the talented winger's services. 'We've had a discussion but that's as far as it's gone at the moment,' Payten said. 'It all depends on what he is asking and what they are expecting. We haven't got that far down the line yet. 'We always consider quality players and the price point is the determining factor.' The Cowboys are struggling to replace Valentine Holmes after his switch to the Dragons and Payten believes Cobbo could be the man. 'I think Selwyn Cobbo would help any club he is going to,' Payten said. 'He carries the ball strongly, he can find the try line and break a game open. He has proven that over time. 'There's no doubt we could help him get to where he wants to get to, but if we get to that point, it's down to him. 'I don't doubt our club would be a good fit. We are a rural town with country values. We have humble players who work hard.' Broncos board member Darren Lockyer, who is part of the club's recruitment and retention committee, said Cobbo was facing a 'test' that could make or break his NRL career. Cobbo's NRL career is at a crossroads as he lines up for Wynnum Manly against Redcliffe in the Hostplus Cup on Sunday at Kougari Oval. The Cowboys made inquiries last week about a potential mid-season transfer similar to the one that saw Tom Dearden join the Cowboys from the Broncos before the June 30 deadline in 2021. The Broncos blocked the transfer request, but there is a view that Cobbo could benefit from a switch to North Queensland, which has seen Dearden thrive into an Origin and Kangaroos star. Cobbo recently flew to Sydney to meet with the Dragons, who were also keen to sign Cobbo on a mid-season transfer, but they baulked at his asking price.
