NBA Draft Live: Australian foursome set to create draft history as second round gets underway
It's a big day for Australian basketball with four players in the mix to be selected in the second round of the 2025 NBA draft. NBL stars Rocco Zikarsky, Alex Toohey and Lachlan Olbrich are expected to fulfil their dreams, alongside Sydney-born guard Tyrese Proctor.
The foursome of Aussies are tipped to be chosen at picks 41, 45, 50 and 34 respectively. Australia has a proud NBA draft record.
Of the 25 Australian players selected in the NBA Draft since 1969, ten selections were made in the first round.

Luc Longley became the first Australian selected in the first round in 1991, when the legendary big man was taken by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the No.7 pick.
Chris Anstey led a group of four Aussies taken in the 1997 NBA Draft when he was picked up at No. 18 by the Portland Trail Blazers.
Andrew Bogut made history by becoming the first-ever Australian to be selected with the coveted No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft when he was taken by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2005.

Carlton great Brendan Fevola calls for mass changes at Princes Park
A club icon wants major change at Carlton. Hall of Fame forward Brendan Fevola has called for 'new people' at Princes Park after another horror loss on Thursday night. The Blues' faithful showed their angst after the 50-point loss to Port Adelaide, vandalising club headquarters in protest of another failed campaign. Fevola, much like the vandals, took aim at the board more so than under-siege coach Michael Voss. 'Something is wrong, something is going on, the board needs to go, I've been saying that for ages, the board is just there for themselves,' he said on his morning radio program, Fifi, Fev & Nick. 'Get new people in; get old Carlton people in. Blokes like Fraser Brown who would be amazing on the board. 'Everyone is saying, 'Sack Vossy, Vossy needs to go', and I'm like, 'No, I don't think that's the go'. 'It gets to a point where you go, 'I don't think the players are playing for you, mate'. If you're playing for a coach, you don't put up what you put up in that first half. 'They're putting up nothing, they didn't kick a goal for the whole first half. 'They don't look like they've got a system; but they do have a system, they train and they train hard. They're just not performing.' Carlton was second on the ladder by half a game at round 19 last year but have mustered just seven wins since. Fevola said the Blues' win return had not matched the strength of their list. 'They have the players; if Vossy and the assistants were coaching West Coast, you'd go … 'Well, they just don't have the cattle, they're rebuilding',' Fevola said. 'Carlton were premiership favourites at the start of the year (and) they're not even going to play finals, their season is over. 'I don't know what's wrong with Patrick Cripps, he looked sore last night. I would just put them all on ice and say you're done, get your body right for next year.' Fevola also took aim at out-of-contract big man Tom De Koning, who has been heavily linked to St Kilda on the AFL's most lucrative deal. Fevola said the Blues must demand an answer from De Koning and sideline him if he is not committed to staying. 'The problem is they have Tom De Koning, who is in our top three players. He's been offered $12m to go to St Kilda and Carlton can't match that,' he said. 'If he's going, don't play him; say to him that he needs to make a decision now and if he can't answer that, say you're in the twos – get some young kid to play in the ruck. 'This has been going on all year and it's what everyone talks about; if he doesn't want to stay, just be honest.'

Matahga aiming to replicate success of Derby winners in Oaklands Plate at Morphettville Parks
The last two winners of the Oaklands Plate have since achieved Group 1 glory, and Saturday's race favourite, Matahga, is out to prove he's on that trajectory. The impressive colt won the Racing Rewards 2YO Plate (1200m) at Murray Bridge last start, and is out to nail consecutive Oaklands Plate's for trainer Phillip Stokes, who saddled up last year's winner, Femminile. Femminile pulled off a brilliant win in May's $1m SA Derby (2500m), while staying filly Coco Sun, also pulled off a Oaklands Plate-Derby double in 2023-24. Matahga, a son of Tivaci, is only two starts into his career, but is giving the indication that he fits a similar mould. 'To be honest, I think he's shown more than Femminile, obviously Femminile improved a heap, so he's going to have to do the same,' assistant trainer Tommy Stokes said. 'He'll look at a similar path, he's got stayer written all over him, he settles so well in his trackwork and his races, he's going to eat up a bigger trip for sure.' 'He improved again second-up, we reckon 1400m is going to be perfect, the Parks track is probably not going to be to his liking, but the distance definitely will be. 'He's come through it (last start) really well, I think he's improved again, he'll run a real good race if he's not too far off them as they straighten up. 'He's one of our nicer 2YOs, and he's not just a 2YO, he's got scope, that's what is most exciting about him.' Jacob Opperman has piloted the colt in his previous two starts, and will steer again on Saturday from barrier nine at Morphettville Parks. 'I think Jacob suits him well, he rode him on debut when Lachie (Neindorf) was in Victoria,' he said. 'She's improved a heap off her debut run,' Stokes said. 'She's obviously 100-1, so the form doesn't stack up, she was beaten a fair way. 'She'll appreciate distance and we are obviously trying to sneak black type for the pedigree.'
