The Boland Cavaliers will want to avoid a see-saw Currie Cup performance by building on their recent win over the Lions when they take on the Bulls in Wellington on Sunday.
It will be their final round-robin game at the Boland Stadium (3 pm start) and one the team must make count if they want to stay in contention for a playoff in front of their rowdy supporters later in the tournament. They've won the first match, then lost, and most recently picked up another victory. So, if they have another dip in performance after a good win, it will undo the hard work of last weekend.
Fresh off that bonus-point win over the Lions, the Cavaliers will look to take the scalp of another big team to continue their winning spree.

Hawies Fourie, Boland coach, opted to rotate some of his players, wanting to give game time to those on the fringes and some players returning from injury. The selection of his two form props, Dayan van der Westhuizen and Wayrin Losper, on the bench is also an interesting choice. However, they can provide a game-changing impact in the second half.
'It was a bit of a balancing act,' Fourie said about the changes.
'We want to build continuity, but we also want to keep the squad fresh. I feel we have to reward players who are close to (making) the team and training well.'
Livewire flanker Sbusiso Sangweni has recovered from his ankle injury and slots into the No 7 jersey, but captain Marlyn Williams will miss the crucial clash due to a facial injury. Former Stormers lock Jurie van Vuuren will get a run in the lock jersey in the place of Williams. Eighth man Thurlow Marsh will captain the side.

Van der Westhuizen and Losper are replaced by Doctor Booysen and Mthokozisi Gumede. The starting backline that ran the Lions' defence to shreds is unchanged after Donavan Don was cleared to play following a slight niggle after scoring two tries last weekend.
'Continuity is always important in a team, so I feel we are keeping the core of the team the same. But we will continue to rotate in certain positions where we feel the players will help the team perform better.
'Marlyn injured his cheekbone and had an operation on Wednesday, so Jurie moves into the starting lineup to replace him.'

Cheetahs secure narrow victory over Western Province in dramatic Currie Cup clash

Cheetahs outside back Cohen Jasper, pictured here against Boland, played a pivotal role in his side's Currie Cup victory over Western Province. Image: BackpagePix The Cheetahs made life difficult for themselves with ill-discipline on Saturday, nearly throwing away a victory against Western Province in their Currie Cup encounter in Bloemfontein. Some desperate defence and excellent lineout steals saved them from embarrassment as they hung on with just 13 players for the final five minutes to seal a crucial 31–24 bonus-point win. The home side scored five tries to Western Province's three, and with the victory, they claimed top spot on the Currie Cup log with three rounds to go. Video Player is loading. They had dominated Province up front, and their slick outside backs enjoyed the space created out wide. First-half tries by fullback Cohen Jasper and loose forward Mihlali Mosi, along with scores from winger Banie Britz, lock Juan Venter, and No. 8 Neels Volschenk, gave the home side a comfortable 21-point cushion. But then the wheels came off, and the game nearly ended in a spectacular draw. Western Province started playing like a proper team, attacking with flair and putting the Cheetahs under immense pressure. Perhaps the shift of fullback Tristan Leyds to flyhalf played a part — suddenly there was rhythm, and space opened up out wide as Leyds distributed the ball beautifully from first receiver. A brave fight back, but not enough as we come up short in Bloemfontein. #CHEvWP #wpjoulekkerding — WP RUGBY (@WP_RUGBY) August 16, 2025

Currie Cup result: Cheetahs survive WP scare, Lions surge past Pumas

The Cheetahs held off a late charge by WP, while the Lions got back to winning ways with a win over the Pumas. The Cheetahs withstood a late Western Province fightback in Bloemfontein, while the Lions beat the Pumas in Nelspruit in Saturday's Currie Cup action. Province looked dead and buried when trailing 31-10 with 20 minutes to go, but hit back with tries from replacements Jared Africa and Enos Ndiao to cut the deficit to seven. The drama intensified when Cheetahs centre Marco Janse van Vuren was shown red after a second yellow card. WP thought they had levelled the scores when scrumhalf Ezekiel Ngobeni darted away to score under the posts, but the TMO ruled a knock-on in the build-up. And while the Cheetahs were reduced to 13 men when hooker Marko Janse van Vuren was sent to the bin, they clung on for a 31-24 win that took them to the top of the Currie Cup log. WP's losing bonus point lifted them off the bottom. Earlier, winger Cohen Jasper opened the scoring for the hosts before flyhalf Jurie Matthee added a penalty. Flank Mihlali Mosi extended the lead when he chased down winger Banie Britz's kick, but Van Vuren's deliberate knock-on saw the Cheetahs down to 14. Province took advantage, with winger Shilton van Wyk crossing just before the break to make it 12-10. The Cheetahs struck back soon after the restart when Britz scored after a quick tap from a scrum free kick, with lock Juan Venter and No 8 Neels Volschenk adding further tries to secure the bonus point and build a match-winning cushion. In Nelspruit, the Lions bounced back from last week's loss to Boland with a 36-28 victory over the Pumas. The sides went into half time level at 21-21 after three converted tries apiece, but two third-quarter tries – including a second for flank Renzo du Plessis – swung the match the Lions' way. The result lifted the Lions to second on the log ahead of Sunday's clash between Boland and the Bulls in Wellington. This story was first published on It is republished here with permission.

Racist incident mars Premier League opener as Bournemouth's Ghana star Antoine Semenyo abused at Anfield against Liverpool

Bournemouth's Ghanaian striker #24 Antoine Semenyo celebrates after scoring their first goal during the English Premier League football match between Liverpool and Bournemouth at Anfield in Liverpool, north west England on August 15, 2025. Picture: Paul Ellis/AFP Image: Paul Ellis/AFP Bournemouth captain Adam Smith said he was left shocked and angered after teammate Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by a fan during the Cherries' 4-2 defeat at Liverpool in the opening game of the Premier League season. The match was briefly halted after half an hour when Semenyo told referee Anthony Taylor of the incident and both managers were informed. A Liverpool fan who had been seen gesturing towards the Ghanaian as he took a throw-in was led away by police at half-time. Semenyo showed remarkable poise to not only continue but go on to score twice in the second half as Bournemouth came within minutes of holding the defending champions to a draw until late strikes by Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah.
