Assam Guv inaugurates advanced facilities at B Barooah Cancer Institute

Guwahati, Aug 19 (PTI) Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday inaugurated two modern facilities at the B Barooah Cancer Institute here to boost cancer care treatment and offer digital solutions for office management.
Acharya inaugurated the TrueBeam Linear Accelerator (Linac) Radiotherapy Machine and the E-Office Facility at the institute.
The machine will provide advanced treatment options for cancer patients, while the E-Office system reflects a commitment to efficiency and transparency in healthcare delivery, the governor said on the occasion.
This is a step forward for the people of Assam and the northeastern region, he said.
The newly commissioned Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy Machine represents a major advancement in cancer care, as this technology enables highly precise and targeted radiation therapy, thereby improving treatment outcomes while minimising treatment-related side effects, officials said.
The launch of the E-Office Facility is a significant step towards digital management at BBCI and will streamline workflow, enhance administrative efficiency and ensure transparency in service delivery, ultimately benefiting patients and stakeholders alike, the governor said.
"In today's scientific era, healthcare is no longer limited to medicines and surgery. We are entering into an age of precision medicine, AI-based diagnostics, and personalised therapy," he said.
Acharya said he is happy to note that the institute is not limited to medical treatment alone, but also plays a leading role in the field of research and education.

Mumbai, Aug 21 (PTI) Water technology solutions provider VA Tech Wabag on Thursday said it has secured an order worth Rs 46.50 crore from RenewSys India (RenewSys) to deliver comprehensive water management solutions for its 2 GW solar cell manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, Telangana. The order includes the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation and commissioning of an Ultrapure Water (UPW) system, Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), and a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system, to be executed within a period of 11 months, Wabag said in a statement. This order, worth Rs 46.50 crore, is strategically significant as it marks a strong foothold in the solar manufacturing sector, reinforcing its capabilities across UPW, ETP, and ZLD segments. 'The project is well aligned with our strategy to diversify into water management for high-growth industrial applications like solar, green hydrogen and semiconductors. Wipro to acquire HARMANs DTS business unit for USD 375 million

Agency: PTI New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) IT major Wipro on Thursday said it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100 per cent stake in the Digital Transformation Solutions (DTS) business unit of HARMAN, a Samsung company, for a cash consideration of up to USD 375 million (about Rs 3,270 crore). Under the agreement, more than 5,600 DTS employees, including senior leadership, across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, will move to Wipro. The transaction is expected to be completed by December 31, 2025, according to a regulatory filing. 'Wipro (through its subsidiaries) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100 per cent shareholding in Harman Connected Services Inc. and its subsidiaries and certain other assets (collectively, 'DTS") from Harman International Industries, Inc. on August 21, 2025," the filing said. Upon completion of the acquisition, DTS will be integrated into Wipro's Engineering Global Business Line. Further, as part of the acquisition, Wipro will enter into a multi-year strategic agreement with HARMAN and Samsung. DTS, headquartered in Connecticut, USA, is a global provider of ER&D and IT services, focusing on areas like Embedded Software, Digital Engineering, Design Thinking, Device Engineering, Cloud & Infra services, Data Analytics & AI, and Enterprise Automation. It caters to industrial, consumer, hi-tech (communication & software), and healthcare & life sciences sectors. The acquisition strengthens Wipro's ER&D portfolio by advancing its AI-driven digital and device engineering capabilities, spanning design-to-manufacturing across industries such as technology, industrial, aerospace, healthcare, and consumer sectors. 'Their specialised engineering expertise, combined with Wipro's consulting-led, AI-powered capabilities, will significantly enhance the value we deliver to clients. Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Dr Rajiv Bahl Thursday said research is the way forward, and stronger systems can be built and knowledge can be generated by learning from each other's research ecosystems, which can be translated for the betterment of the health of people. The Department of Health Research (DHR) and the ICMR inaugurated a two-day regional meeting titled 'Health Research and Innovations in Public Health: Exchange of Good Practices across RESEARCH Platform'. Delivering the plenary address, Dr V K Paul, Member, NITI Aayog, commended the participating countries for their significant progress in advancing the health and well-being of their citizens. 'The progress we see across these countries is a testament to their commitment to health. There is tremendous scope for us to learn from each other, co-create research products and translate science into action. By working together, we can accelerate progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals across the region," said Dr Paul. Dr Bahl said, 'The issues we face are common to all of us, and it is time for our region to move towards shaping its own narrative. Research is the way forward, and by learning from each other's research ecosystems, we can build stronger systems, generate knowledge that reflects our realities, and translate it into better health for our people." The event, held at the Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, brought together senior representatives from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Timor-Leste to deliberate on strengthening health research systems, facilitate the exchange of good practices and promote cross-border collaboration in South and Southeast Asia. The meeting is part of the Regional Enabler for South and Southeast Asia Research for Health (RESEARCH) Platform, which aims to foster solidarity, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration among participating countries, the health ministry said in a statement. The representatives from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Timor-Leste also delivered opening remarks, drawing attention to the health concerns that affect their populations and the region as a whole, such as anaemia, maternal and child health, tuberculosis, vector-borne diseases and non-communicable diseases. They emphasised the vital role of governments in ensuring public trust in science, highlighted the importance of sustained investments in capacity building alongside expanding infrastructure, and reiterated their commitment to regional solidarity in advancing health research and innovations, the ministry's statement said. Over the next two days, the meeting will include deliberations on diverse aspects of health research systems, including governance structures, research financing, mechanisms for prioritising research agendas and approaches to ensuring transparency and ethics. The participating countries will also discuss strategies to foster medical technology innovations, translate research into policy and programmes, and strengthen collaboration across sectors and with international partners, the statement said. This first-of-its-kind gathering marks a significant milestone in fostering regional cooperation and knowledge-sharing in health research. By coming together under the RESEARCH Platform, the participating countries have signalled their intent to learn from one another, co-create solutions, and jointly harness the power of science and innovation to improve public health and accelerate progress towards universal health coverage, it said.
