Will Arsenal hold a trophy celebration after winning Women's Champions League?

Yahoo24-05-2025

Arsenal will hold a victory celebration outside the Emirates Stadium on Monday after sensationally winning the Women's Champions League for the first time in 18 years.
The Gunners stunned holders Barcelona in Lisbon as Stina Blackstenius delivered the suckerpunch after the English side survived long spells of pressure.
The victory is Arsenal's first European title since 2007 and they are the first English women's side to win the Champions League since that trailblazing squad.
Now, Renee Slegers and her players will celebrate with a trophy lift in Armoury Square, which is just outside the club's Emirates Stadium in North London.
It will take place on Monday 26 May, kicking off at 11:30am and running through to approximately 12:15pm. The event will include a trophy presentation and on-stage interviews with players and staff.
Arsenal head coach Renee Slegers said they will look forward to celebrating their Champions League triumph with those who have helped the club along its journey.
'Looking forward to it so much' she said. 'I was with the club in 2007 and know a bit about where we came from. There are so many people that have invested for a long time. I'm such a small part of it.
'Thank you so much to all those people. If you achieve something by yourself that is great, but to achieve something together is much greater. It's so special to share this with the fans.
'It means so much for everyone who has built towards this but it also means so much for the future. It motivates us and it shows what we are capable of. There is even more in the group. The strength of the team has been to grow every single day. If you are part of Arsenal you go for trophies. That is what we want to do.'

Pro Paranavithana fires Blackrod into Knockout quarters

Blackrod and Salesbury, the two remaining Anthony Axford North West Cricket League sides in the draw, will meet in the quarter-finals of the Lancashire Knockout Cup later this month after securing contrasting Sunday successes. Salesbury beat Blackpool of the Northern Pyramid Premier League 1-0 in a bowl out after their second-round clash could not be played because of wet weather at the Toplex Salesbury Cricket Ground. Advertisement Spinner Sam Bristol was their accurate hero amidst a series of misses from both sides. Blackrod, meanwhile, won in more conventional fashion at home to NWCL rivals Padiham in a fixture which was unaffected by the weather at their Vicarage Road home. Sri Lankan professional Navod Paranavithana top-scored with an opening 72 off 100 balls in Blackrod's 184-8 in 45 overs after they elected to bat first. He was the only home batter to reach 20, even though five other team-mates made it into double figures. Padiham captain Toby Burrows led the way with 3-13 from nine accurate overs of spin, while Oliver Parr and professional Iftikhar Naseer struck twice apiece. Advertisement Naseer bowled his opposite number Paranavithana at 141-6 in the 38th over. But, crucially, another 43 runs were added. Charlie Fletcher's unbeaten 19 from number seven was central to that. In their defence, Paranavithana struck twice, but the new-ball seam of Matthew Readey was key with 4-22 from his nine overs as Padiham fell from health at 78-2 in the 27th over to 140 all out in the 41st. The key passage of play came when Readey struck three times in the 31st over, which saw Padiham fall from 88-3 to 88-6. He bowled South African overseas amateur Zander Van Tonder and former skipper Owen Deakin-Pickard and trapped Cameron Thorne lbw. The latter two came in successive deliveries. Advertisement From there, Padiham were always swimming against the tide. Pro Naseer top-scored with 64 from number four and was last man out, caught off Thushendra De Zoysa. Blackrod will now host Salesbury on June 29 in the last eight, in which they will be joined by Burnley, Clitheroe, Fleetwood, Formby, Netherfield and Northern. Formby will play Fleetwood at home after Sunday wins against Appleby Eden and Roe Green, respectively. Burnley will host Netherfield. Burnley beat Longridge and Netherfield triumphed against Lowerhouse. And Northern will host Clitheroe after they won at Prestwich, who were last year's joint-champions with Ormskirk. Clitheroe, meanwhile, beat Shaw. Prestwich had knocked Ormskirk out in last month's Round-One repeat of last year's final, which had failed to finish - hence joint champions.

Football transfer rumours: Liverpool to spend £100m on PSG's Bradley Barcola?

It is a wingers special for today's tittle-tattle. Starting with Liverpool's willingness to splash £100m on Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola. Arne Slot has already signed Jeremie Frimpong and is set to add creativity in the form of Florian Wirtz. Naturally, there is not a bottomless pit of cash at Anfield, so they would be open to selling Luis Díaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Núñez to fund the spending. After it was confirmed that Jadon Sancho will not be joining Chelsea permanently, his next move is a hot topic of conversation. Manchester United will be quite eager to earn some cash in exchange for the winger, so the prospect of Aston Villa, Newcastle and Tottenham are considering a potential move for the 25-year-old. Advertisement Related: Men's transfer window summer 2025: all deals from Europe's top five leagues Another wideman needing pastures new is Jack Grealish, who was left out of Manchester City's Club World Cup squad. On the upside, he does get a few extra weeks off compared to his current teammates, giving him time to send his CV out to clubs. Newcastle and Everton could offer Grealish a route away from the City bench. Nico Williams is another who likes to get chalk on his boots. Clubs queueing up to sign him. Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Chelsea are all eager but Athletic Club want to tie the Spain international down to a new deal to keep him at San Mamés. Bayern seem to be the most eager and the European champion might have given his representatives a nudge and a wink to have a chat with the recently-crowned Bundesliga winners. Supposedly plenty of teams are interested the Sporting striker Viktor Gyökeres but no one is yet to make an offer for him, according to club president Frederico Varandas. 'I can guarantee that Viktor Gyökeres will not leave for €60m plus €10m because I never promised that,' Varandas said. 'To this day Sporting has not had an offer for Gyökeres – neither today nor last season.' Advertisement It looks like Manchester City have stolen a march of European rivals to sign Rosenborg teenager Sverre Nypan. The Norwegian was a target for any major club with a pulse, Arsenal and Aston Villa among those batting their eyelids in his direction. Nypan, however, has plumped for the Etihad Stadium as the location to progress his career alongside compatriot Erling Haaland. Trevoh Chalobah is on Napoli's shopping list. The Chelsea defender started last season on loan at Crystal Palace before being called back by Enzo Maresca to boost his centre-back options. Despite starting the triumphant Conference League final and being called up to Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad, Chalobah's future at Stamford Bridge is less than certain and a move to the Serie A champions might be tempting. Djordje Petrovic was not keen on a Club World Cup sojourn to play backup in the Chelsea goalkeeping department, so instead asked to be left out to allow him to work out for what the future holds for him. Leeds could be the answer swirling around the crystal ball. If anyone wants an experienced full-back, then Vladimir Coufal is looking for a new club after his West Ham contract expired. Everton, Wolves and Fulham are those pondering offering him a new home. Sunderland are waiting for offers for midfielder Nectarios Triantis. The Premier League newcomers want around £1.5m in exchange for his services after an impressive season on loan at Hibernian. Fortuna Düsseldorf and MLS clubs are keen on the player who is currently debating where his international future lies, with Australia and Greece vying for his qualities.

Liverpool WILL sign one of the best players in the world

Liverpool WILL sign one of the best players in the world Liverpool are going to sign one of the best players in world football. It's not often that we say that but the Reds are finally on the verge of completing a move that could shake-up the entire footballing stratosphere. Advertisement Richard Hughes has often been criticised since coming to Liverpool. He didn't make many signings in his first year at the club. He did take his time to extend Mohamed Salah's and Virgil van Dijk's contract but it was all serving a higher purpose. Liverpool brought him in for the long run not the short one, and as we begin to distance ourselves from last summer, it's becoming apparent that Hughes is very much the right man for the job. He's secured the long-term futures of Van Dijk and Salah on his terms. And now what he is doing this summer is nothing short of remarkable. Perhaps even Michael Edwards has not enjoyed a transfer window like this. Advertisement Already Hughes has secured three new arrivals who will begin pre-season on the 7th July. This is Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong and Armin Pecsi. Now he's closing in on the signing of Florian Wirtz. This is a transfer that is not about whether it's going to happen but rather when. Because Liverpool are going to sign Wirtz. Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed that the transfer is inevitable with his 'here we go' on Tuesday night. It's just a matter of time until the move is confirmed and when it is confirmed, Liverpool will have inadvertently signed one of the best players in the world. Advertisement Someone who has the potential to be the face of the Premier League for the next decade. That is how truly special Wirtz is. The numbers reflect that as well. Wirtz and Salah are the only two players to record 10+ goals and 10+ assists each in of the last two seasons in Europe's five big league. Liverpool already consider Salah as a Ballon d'Or contender. Now they've added a player in Wirtz who can compete with him for that sport. This is something echoed by writer Ninad Barbadikar who spoke exclusively with Anfield Watch on our YouTube channel. "What I see in him is a future Ballon d'Or winner," Barbadikar said. Advertisement "I hope he realises that potential at Liverpool. I think in a year of adjustment to the Premier League, which will inevitably happen, and that physical adjustment is going to take some time. "I think eventually he is going to reach that level where he is going to be Ballon d'Or level good and he is going to be outright the best player in the world for at least a couple of seasons." This is the level of player Liverpool now have on their hands. Wirtz is already up there with the best and he has the potential to go even further.
