Gorakhpur's cricket stadium to take cue from the one in Ranchi
2
Lucknow: Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath
's dream project of an international-level cricket stadium in Gorakhpur will be inspired by Ranchi's JSCA International Stadium Complex, officials said.
The proposed stadium is likely to include a cricket academy, a recreational club, and other hospitality services such as a restaurant, along with facilities for basketball, lawn tennis courts, and a swimming pool.
The project, which was earlier estimated to cost Rs 236.40 crore, is now expected to cost around Rs 361 crore, said an official privy to the development.
Once completed, the Gorakhpur Cricket Complex will be the fourth international-standard cricket stadium in Uttar Pradesh.
While Lucknow's Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium has been hosting several international fixtures including T20s and IPL matches, and Kanpur's Green Park has a history of hosting Tests and ODIs, the upcoming stadium in Varanasi is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026, officials added.
"The proposed stadium in Gorakhpur will come up on the Gorakhpur–Varanasi Road across 106 acres of land. Since the area is low-lying, this has become the primary reason for the cost escalation," the official said.
