District municipality sends TLBs to flood-ravaged Khula Village
Umkhanyakude District Municipality on Wednesday rushed to mobilise and deploy TLBs to Khula Village outside St Lucia, to assist with the deluge experienced due to disruptive rain.
District Mayor Siphile Mdaka on Wednesday morning said this is the area that was identified thus far as being hardest hit.

'As you will know, parts of that area are wetlands so that is where rain will settle, but we will send TLBs to assist,' said Mdaka.
He added that he was working to rope in the Department of Human Settlements to assist in Ndumo, Jozini where last week severe weather conditions left homes destroyed and one person dead.
'We are working on assisting the family of the deceased with burial efforts where we can,' said the district mayor.
Meanwhile, Khula Village Councillor Ntokozo Mlungwana sympathised with community members who were adversely affected by the downpour.
Mlungwana visited sections of his ward, which were severely affected by the rain, engaging with residents to find solutions.
There were reports of inundation in the village's neighbouring ward, Dukuduku, with residents struggling to enter or leave their homes.
The R618 between St Lucia and Monzi was also flooded.

Weather warning: Damaging winds ahead on Wednesday
As the cold front grips parts of the country this week, strong and damaging winds are also expected to sweep through KZN on Wednesday. Cape cold fronts to bring colder weather next week
TWO cold fronts are expected to develop early next week from Monday to Friday (19 to 23 May), disrupting the current mild weather countrywide. According to the South African Weather Service, the first cold front will first impact the Western Cape on Monday with wet, cold, and windy conditions. ALSO READ: Tourists give back to community The following day, the second more intense front will hit and spread eastward, affecting the Northern Cape and the Eastern Cape. There, scattered showers are expected, with between 15-25mm rain and even 30-50mm rainfall in mountainous areas. Persistent rainfall may lead to localised flooding with wind speeds averaging between 65km/h across the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape. Westerly gale-force winds (65-75 km/h) are expected along the coastline from Alexander Bay through to Plettenberg Bay, resulting in very rough seas on Tuesday and Wednesday. Waves could reach 5-6.5m, occasionally peaking at 7m, with a 10 seconds wave period on Wednesday. Load-shedding to be implemented from this evening until Thursday It will be an evening of darkness for several communities as Eskom announces it will implement stage 2 load shedding from 4pm this (Tuesday) afternoon until 10pm on Thursday. The power utility said the move aims to manage limited generation capacity and ensure continued supply during working days. 'This decision follows the delayed return of generation units amounting to 3 120MW, as well as an additional loss of 1 385MW in the past 24 hours due to unplanned breakdowns. 'The primary reason for this setback is the delay in returning several units from planned maintenance. 'These delays, coupled with an unplanned capacity loss that has now temporarily exceeded 13 000MW, align with the risk scenarios shared in our Winter 2025 Outlook,' Eskom said in a statement.
