Load-shedding to be implemented from this evening until Thursday
It will be an evening of darkness for several communities as Eskom announces it will implement stage 2 load shedding from 4pm this (Tuesday) afternoon until 10pm on Thursday.
The power utility said the move aims to manage limited generation capacity and ensure continued supply during working days.
'This decision follows the delayed return of generation units amounting to 3 120MW, as well as an additional loss of 1 385MW in the past 24 hours due to unplanned breakdowns.
'The primary reason for this setback is the delay in returning several units from planned maintenance.
'These delays, coupled with an unplanned capacity loss that has now temporarily exceeded 13 000MW, align with the risk scenarios shared in our Winter 2025 Outlook,' Eskom said in a statement.
Eskom said it is currently emerging from an intensive maintenance cycle which has caused the grid to be more sensitive to unexpected disruptions.

Beaches closed, bathing banned
All beaches on the South Coast are temporally closed – from Isipingo to Port Edward – due to the Sardine Run. Ray Nkonyeni Municipality confirmed the shark nets have been removed and swimming is prohibited, until further notice. Wayne Harrison from the KZN Sharks Board said nets were removed during April (about six weeks ago) and replaced with drum lines to reduce the chance of whale entanglement. 'We naturalised the drum lines from Saturday, with no marine captures reported,' he said. He also cautioned 'sardine watchers' on the beach to be careful in and around the sardine nets, which are heavier than they may appear. His warning comes as a result of a woman who was injured by a sardine net on Port Edward beach last Saturday. ETHEKWINI Municipality has announced that swimming is banned on all southern beaches, following the removal of shark nets as the annual sardine run begins. Also read: Marine activity surges with sardine run Southern beaches generally include Dakota, Pipeline, Amanzimtoti Main, Doonside, Baggies, Winklespruit, Karridene, and Umgababa beaches. As the temperatures plummet and winter sets in, the pioneer silver shoals have started making their way up the coast, with netting happening from Winklespruit to Scottburgh. The sardine run coincides with heightened marine activity, as sharks and birds join in the feeding frenzy. Swimming will remain banned until further notice.
