Miley Cyrus Said She Wears 'Very Modest' Bathing Suits Because She's Still 'So Insecure' About Those Past Cruel Body-Shaming Memes

This week, Miley Cyrus made an appearance on the Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky podcast.
And during her wide-ranging conversation with Monica, Miley, 32, opened up about still being impacted by past viral memes that mocked her appearance.
For context, Miley has previously opened up about how the cruel memes, which circulated after her memorable performance at the 2013 VMAs, left her feeling incredibly insecure. Back in 2020, she revealed that she was unable to wear shorts or skirts in public for years, adding, 'All this shit because after the VMAs, where I had on my cute little nude bodysuit, everyone started comparing me to a turkey and putting a turkey in my outfit.'
Discussing the subject once again with Monica this week, Miley recalled, 'There were a couple [memes] about my body in 2013, people were putting my head on different, very unattractive things. And I still see that when I put on a bathing suit, to this day.'
Miley went on to reveal that she wears 'very modest' swimwear in a bid to cover her body. 'I wear very — you would never think — very modest bathing suits,' she shared.
'We actually just went on a trip, it was a whole girls' trip. And everyone else had on a string bikini except me. I was in shorts,' she said. 'I don't even know if people wear tankinis anymore. I was wearing a tank top, like an old lady.'
'My sister goes, 'You know, you're you, so this is cool. I guess this is in now, you're making this cool. But, you know, this is what a grandma wears to the beach?'' She said, seemingly referring to her younger sister Noah, who is 25.
'And it just hit me, like, I'm still so insecure about those memes about my body,' Miley added.
