Two people killed in separate house fires in Melbourne's outer southeast
Two people have died in separate house fires in Melbourne's outer southeast overnight.
Firefighters were called to a property on Lyppards Rd, Langwarrin at about 2.10am Friday, after reports a fire had broken out.
Three people were able to escape from the burning home, but a fourth person was later found dead inside a bunglaow at the rear of the property.
The tragedy came only hours after crews were called to another fire in the nearby suburb of Frankston.
A unit on Franklin Court was engulfed in flames when emergency services arrived at about 4pm.
While trying to evacuate the property, firefighters found a person's body inside.
The exact circumstances surrounding both incidents are yet to be determined, with police to attend both scenes on Friday to investigate further.
Any witnesses or anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 00.

Bodies found in granny flat: investigation under way into 'suspicious' deaths
Investigators have descended on a leafy, suburban street after two bodies were discovered in a backyard granny flat. The bodies were discovered at 9.30pm on June 11 in the Cannons Parade flat in Forestville on Sydney's Northern Beaches after a friend of the deceased asked police to check on the couple. A man, believed to be aged in his 40s, and a woman, believed to be aged in her 50s, were found at the flat, police said. They are yet to be formally identified. Detective Superintendent John Duncan said the couple hadn't been seen since June 7. They were known to the NSW Police "for minor matters", but the detective superintendent said they had no reported history of domestic violence in NSW. Emergency services forced entry to the flat, as "the premise was secure on police arrival," Detective Superintendent Duncan said. Their cause of death is yet to be established, but the detective superintendent said the bodies suffered lacerations. Three pets - two dogs and a cat - were in the flat with the bodies, police said. The animals were taken to a vet for assessment. "If anybody has any information about any suspicious activity in Cannon's Parade over the last four days, we encourage them to contact either Northern Beaches Police or Crime Stoppers on 1-800-333-000," Detective Superintendent Duncan said. Investigators have established a crime scene, and inquiries under Strike Force Donnybrook have begun into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Two bodies found at Sydney Northern Beaches granny flat in Forestville
A couple found dead in a granny flat in northern Sydney may have died in a murder-suicide, with police probing a potential history of domestic violence in Queensland. The two bodies were found in the home at a property on Cannons Parade in Forestville on Wednesday night. Speaking to media, Detective Superintendent John Duncan said the pair had lacerations on their bodies. The woman is believed to be in her late 50s and the man in his late-40s. Police believe they were in a relationship, and detectives are not aware of any children. Forensic officers are analysing the granny flat at the back of the property. Picture: NewsWire / Simon Bullard. A crime scene has been set up at the property. NewsWire / Simon Bullard. Police are yet to work out their cause of death but are treating their deaths as suspicious. Police want information about any suspicious activity 'out of the norm' on the typically 'good, quiet' Cannons Parade during the past four days, Superintendent Duncan said. The person who called police knew the pair, had not seen them since Saturday, and was concerned about their dogs and a cat. Police and firefighters forced their way into the granny flat. The bodies had 'lacerations', Superintendent Duncan said, but he was unable to elaborate on the extent of the injuries until forensics fully analysed the scene. The occupants were known to NSW Police for 'minor matters', but there was no history of domestic violence in NSW, he said. Detectives were contacting Queensland Police, but police were still to formally identify them, so tracking down records was a challenge, he said. Police say the deceased woman is in her 50s, and the deceased man is in his 40s. Picture: NewsWire / Simon Bullard. Police are expected to remain at the property for most of Thursday. Picture: NewsWire / Simon Bullard. A 'concern for welfare' was reported on Wednesday about 9.30pm. 'Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command attended and found the bodies of a man – believed to be aged in his 40s – and a woman – believed to be aged in her 50s – in a granny flat at the rear of the property,' a police spokesperson said. 'The bodies are yet to be formally identified.' 'Police established a crime scene and inquiries have commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident with the assistance of the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.' Property records show the granny flat was listed for rent in late October. Police seized a white ute from out the front of the property on Wednesday night, with Nine reporting the car had Queensland licence plates. The two-storey granny flat is behind a five-bedroom, three-storey home, and next to a large pool and lawn. Photographers captured a resident of the front house answering a knock on the door from police. The female resident was in a dressing gown. Police are expected to provide more details about the incident and investigation later Thursday morning.
