Oisin Murphy more confident than trainer about Aussie's Royal Ascot repeat

The champion jockey will be back aboard Asfoora when she bids to win a second King Charles III Stakes for trainer Henry Dwyer at next week's royal meeting
Champion jockey Oisin Murphy is more confident than trainer Henry Dwyer that Asfoora can land another top Royal Ascot sprint for Australia.
Since Choisir triumphed in 2003 Australian speedsters have taken their King Charles III Stakes score to six. Asfoora, whose owner Akram El-Fahkri was raised on a farm in Lebananon and runs a Melbourne taxi firm, kept the sequence going 12 months ago when she defeated Regional and Big Evs in the 5f feature on her first start with Murphy in the saddle.

Trainer Henry Dwyer is putting the finishing touches to the six-year-old mare's challenge in Newmarket where 'she has sparked up' since completing a 40-hour trip.

'Oisin galloped her on Monday on the July Course,' said Dwyer. 'She had a lead horse and they went an easy furlong from the five to the four before running a really sharp 600 metres in around 33 seconds.
'She was steaming through the line with the blinkers on and pulled up like she had not had a gallop, so I think her fitness is good. She seems in a good place and Oisin is very confident, probably more than me, but I hope he is right!'
Dwyer famously tipped Asfoora to the King when introduced to him in the parade ring before last year's big race.
Reflecting on the occasion, he said: 'It was completely bonkers, just madness. I was very nervous before the race as it was the biggest day of my racing life. I have 40 horses in work and have won a couple of Group 1 races, but that whole thing of travelling a horse, the risk versus reward scenario, it was a lot of pressure.
'It was more relief when she ran well. I didn't care if she won or lost as long as she didn't embarrass herself or us.
'We were stood in the grandstand and, when she came past us and was clearly going to win, that was the last I saw of the race as I had 30 people jumping on top of me, cheering. I still don't think it has sunk in.
'I feel like we have less pressure this year as we have been there and done it. If she had not won last year, there would be more pressure as it is an expensive trip with huge costs involved, in terms of staffing and flights.
"That is pressure, spending someone else's money, but luckily she was able to repay us and the owner last year. This year, that money is already in the bank, so she owes us nothing."

Ange Postecoglou receives first job offer since Tottenham sacking

Just a week after getting sacked by Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou is reportedly in talks to make a swift return to the dugout. Last Friday, Spurs announced that Postecoglou had been relieved of his duties after two seasons in north London, a decision that has divided players, fans and pundits. The Australian ended Tottenham's 17-year trophy drought by beating Manchester United in the Europa League final, thereby securing their return to the Champions League. However, their Premier League campaign was a disaster, suffering a record 22 defeats and finishing 17th in the table, only ahead of the three relegated sides. Though Postecoglou assured supporters that 'season three is better than season two', Daniel Levy make the call to axe him and hire Thomas Frank from Brentford. Unsurprisingly, Postecoglou's attractive brand of football and ability to win silverware has made him an attractive target for many clubs around the world and one has already approached him. According to The Athletic, Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli have made contact with the 59-year-old as they weigh up whether to replace current head coach Matthias Jaissle. Popular with the fans, Jaissle guided Al Ahli, one of the four Saudi clubs owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), to the AFC Champions League title last season. But the young German has just a year left on his contract and has turned down multiple offers to extend it having been tipped to return to Europe, amid links with West Ham and RB Leipzig. It is said 'talks are moving quickly with Postecoglou', while Xavi, out of work since being sacked by Barcelona over a year ago, is also a contender for the job. More Trending Postecoglou is of course no stranger to managing in Asia following spells in Australia and Japan, as well as the Australia national team. Meanwhile, Brentford are on the hunt to find Frank's replacement. The Bees had hoped to appoint Justin Cochrane, a member of Frank's coaching staff, but he had also moved to Tottenham. They could still hire from within with set-piece coach Keith Andrews the new favourite for the job, while Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna and even Postecoglou are among the frontrunners. Ange Postecoglou could get instant return as club contact sacked Spurs boss

Tottenham announced the sacking of Ange Postecoglou last week, despite the Australian guiding the club to the Europa League trophy, with Brentford boss Thomas Frank quickly unveiled as his successor Ange Postecoglou has been offered an immediate return to management after being sacked by Tottenham, with reports claiming Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli have "made contact" with the Australian. Postecoglou was axed by Spurs chief Daniel Levy last week despite guiding the club to the Europa League trophy, their first piece of silverware for 17 years. ‌ However, the former Celtic boss was under huge pressure after also overseeing Tottenham's worst ever Premier League finish of 17th, with the team losing 22 games. That was the most by any Premier League side without being relegated. ‌ As a result, it seemed likely the Spurs hierarchy would swing the axe before an official announcement came at the start of this month. Thomas Frank was duly appointed as his replacement this week. Attentions will now turn to where Postecoglou will end up next after bringing an attractive playing style to Spurs and ultimately the trophy they craved - coming through on his promise that he "always wins in his second season". According to the Athletic, Saudi outfit Al-Ahli have reached out to Postecoglou as they line up their next manager, given that current boss Matthias Jaissle has turned down a number of contract extensions. The club are now preparing for his successor and have placed Postecoglou on their shortlist alongside ex-Barcelona boss Xavi in the event that Jaissle departs. But the report says talks are "moving quickly" with Postecoglou, who has just returned from a holiday in Greece following the end of a turbulent campaign. ‌ Al-Ahli find themselves in a similarly complicated situation as Postecoglou was in at Spurs, given that Jaissle has just won the AFC Champions League and is popular with fans. Moving to the Middle East club would see him manage stars like Edouard Mendy, Franck Kessie, Riyad Mahrez Roberto Firmino and Ivan Toney. Postecoglou will feel hard done by to have lost his job at Spurs given he ended the club's lengthy trophy drought, but the club insisted they could not be ruled by emotion as they explained the reasons for his dismissal. A club statement announcing his sacking said: "We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club. Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw. "However, the Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place. Whilst winning the Europa League this season ranks as one of the Club's greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph."
