British backpacker faces court over fatal e-scooter crash in Australia
Alicia Kemp, 25, from Redditch, Worcestershire, allegedly collided with Thanh Phan, 51, while riding through Perth's city centre on May 31.
Mr Phan died in hospital days later after suffering a brain bleed.
Kemp has been charged with dangerous driving causing death under the influence of alcohol, as well as dangerous driving causing bodily harm under the influence of alcohol.
She is yet to enter a plea.
Court officials said Kemp, who was denied bail at a hearing in June, appeared at Perth Magistrates' Court via video link on Tuesday.
She will remain behind bars until her case returns to court on August 11 for legal argument.
The charge of dangerous driving causing death carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
Under Western Australian law, e-scooter riders must wear a helmet, be sober, carry no passengers and be aged over 16 years old.

Police seize eight vehicles in safety clampdown
Eight drivers have had their vehicles seized for not having a licence or insurance in a day of action by a police force to improve road safety. Northamptonshire Police said it stopped 120 vehicles in Northampton in just five hours on 26 June, when 30 motoring offences were detected. A 36-year-old man, from the town, was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified and for not having a licence or insurance. Last year 31 people were killed on the county's roads and the force said it wanted to reduce the number of lives lost. During the checks, on the A4500 Wellingborough Road, a driver was fined for not having tax and 11 fixed penalty notices were given to drivers for not wearing a seat belt. Five drivers were reprimanded, two for not having a valid MOT, one for having a trailer in a dangerous condition, one for a dangerous unsecure load and another for having illegal window tints. PC Dave Lee, of the Safer Roads Team, said: "Everyone needs to play their part to help save lives and one of the most basic, but essential, ways to do this is to ensure both you and your vehicle are fit for the road. "Some of these issues may seem trivial to some, however it only takes one poorly maintained vehicle or a momentary lapse of concentration for a driver to be involved in a collision, which can result in potentially devastating consequences." Taser and bullet fail to stop domestic violence suspect
An alleged domestic violence incident has ended with two police cars rammed and a man shot in the arm after a dramatic two-hour ordeal. The 42-year-old man was allegedly seen wielding a knife and arguing with a woman when police were called to an address in San Remo on the NSW Central Coast about 5am on Thursday. Multiple attempts to arrest him were unsuccessful and he got into a car and rammed two police vehicles to flee, police say. Officers tried to use a Taser while the man was in the vehicle and when he drove at the surrounding police cars, an officer fired once. "It appears that he was struck by the bullet in the upper arm area," Detective Superintendent Chad Gillies said on Thursday. "(His) condition is stable, it's certainly not life-threatening." After escaping despite being shot, the man evaded police for more than two hours before being found in nearby Gorokan about 7.30am. Police used a Taser and managed to arrest the man on the second occasion, Det Supt Gillies said. The man, who is known to police, is under guard in hospital. "I anticipate a number of serious charges will be conferred against that male at the earliest opportunity," Det Supt Gillies said. The alleged victim of the domestic incident was taken to hospital with injuries including facial fractures and has since been discharged. The car used by the man to escape has been seized by police and will undergo forensic testing. No critical incident has been declared and the officers involved acted appropriately in trying to detain the man, Det Supt Gillies said. "Police were required to act immediately, which they did and put themselves in jeopardy," he said.

Australia's Qantas obtains court order to prevent third-party access to stolen data
(Reuters) -Australia's Qantas Airways said on Thursday it has obtained an interim injunction in the New South Wales (NSW) Supreme Court to prevent the stolen data from being accessed or published by anyone, including by any third parties. Earlier this month, a cyber hacker broke into a database containing the personal information of millions of Qantas customers, Australia's biggest such breach in years. Similar incidents took place in 2022, with telecommunications giant Optus and health insurer Medibank. There continues to be no evidence that any personal data stolen from Qantas has been released, the company said in the statement. The country's flag carrier said that last week it had contacted the 5.7 million affected customers, outlining the specific fields of their personal data that were compromised. "No credit card details, personal financial information or passport details were stored in the compromised system and therefore have not been accessed," Qantas said. The airline operator said it is working closely with several bodies, such as the Australian Federal Police, the National Cyber Security Coordinator and the Australian Cyber Security Centre, to thoroughly investigate criminal activity surrounding the breach.
