Amid ceasefire, Mysuru Palace plays host to ‘Op Abhyas'
MYSURU: While India and Pakistan agreed to cease fire, a civil defence mock drill, 'Operation Abhyas', was held on the premises of Mysuru Palace on Saturday for emergency preparedness and to raise public awareness on disaster response.
Around 5.15 pm, sirens were sounded on the palace premises. Palace security personnel Dayanand and Madhu activated the sirens for 10 seconds each six times to alert civilians of an air raid. Within a few minutes, an airplane hovered over the palace building and there were eight blasts at different places, while a temporary shed erected near the Jayamarthanda Gate was set on fire.
As the message was passed on from the palace control room to all departments, 32 personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) from the RBI with AK 47 rifles, personnel from fire service with fire tenders, health staff with ambulances, police with dog and forensic experts and 110 home guards rushed to the spot. While CISF cordoned off the entire area, the health staff shifted the injured to a temporary health facility near Jayarama and Balarama Gates, while fire service personnel doused the fire.
The mock drill was held for nearly an hour which was witnessed by hundreds of tourists who were at the palace to see the illumination.

IndusInd Bank Jumps 4% After RBI Officials' Comments On Lenders Recent Crisis
Last Updated: IndusInd Bank Ltd's shares rose over 4% on June 6 post-RBI officials' comments on the lender's recent troubles, including accounting lapses IndusInd Bank Share Price: IndusInd Bank Ltd's shares jumped over 4% on June 6 after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officials addressed concerns about the bank's recent accounting lapses and management turmoil. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, at the post-monetary policy press conference in Mumbai, said, 'IndusInd Bank has taken enough steps to improve accounting practices. The bank is doing well overall." He added, 'IndusInd MD and CEO have resigned, which should be good enough. Law will take its course on the IndusInd fraud. We won't fail in our duty if we have to step in." RBI Deputy Governor J. Swaminathan also sought to calm investor nerves, stating, 'On IndusInd, the issue should settle down very soon. We will keep monitoring the banking system and see no systemic impact arising from the IndusInd Bank issue." At 1 pm on June 6, IndusInd Bank shares were trading 4.2% higher at ₹837.2 apiece. Governor Malhotra further noted, 'Normally, we do not comment on individual banks. Let us not be speculative on IndusInd Bank fraud." IndusInd Bank has been navigating a troubled phase. A forensic audit is currently underway after it disclosed a Rs 2,000-crore hit to its net worth in March due to lapses in derivatives accounting. Subsequent probes have uncovered additional accounting irregularities. The bank is now in the process of appointing a new leadership team, including a new CEO. SEBI's preliminary findings cited emails showing the senior management was aware of the accounting discrepancies as early as December 2023 and acknowledged their 'huge impact" internally.

IndusInd Bank shares rise 5% as RBI officials hope things will settle soon
Shares of IndusInd Bank rose 5% on Friday after RBI officials expressed confidence that things should soon settle down at the lender, which has grappled with accounting lapses. Governor Sanjay Malhotra added that the central bank will not fail in its duty in case further steps have to be taken. The crisis began with a forensic audit by Grant Thornton, which flagged discrepancies in how the bank accounted for certain internal currency derivative transactions conducted over the past six years. The trades, intended to hedge exposures, were not properly marked to market, leading to inflated earnings and misstated positions on the balance sheet. The shares of IndusInd Bank crashed nearly 50% at one point after the lapses came into public domain, but since then recovered some of the losses. The stock is down 14% year-to-date (YTD). While the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved an interim executive team of Soumitra Sen and Anil Rao to manage operations, uncertainty looms over permanent leadership. On May 21, IndusInd Bank disclosed multiple accounting lapses, including inflated fees and interest income and misclassified asset and liability entries, leading the board to suspect internal fraud. The bank has corrected its financials and informed regulatory authorities. A forensic probe is underway, and accountability measures have been initiated. Capital markets regulator Sebi has also passed an ex-parte interim order against five senior executives, including the former CEO of IndusInd Bank in an insider trading case. The market regulator found that these individuals sold shares of the bank while in possession of unpublished price-sensitive information (UPSI), avoiding losses worth nearly Rs 20 crore.
