McAtee nets opener as England beat Spain to reach U21 Euros semi-finals
James McAtee scored the first goal of the game as England beat Spain 3-1 in the quarter-finals of the 2025 U21 European Championships in Slovakia.
Captaining Lee Carsley's side, McAtee pounced on a loose ball to turn home from a few yards out after just 10 minutes.

That was backed up shortly after by Harvey Elliott, who made the most of a tap in after a low shot was spilled by goalkeeper Alejandro Iturbe.
Spain were given a lifeline as half-time approached when Jarrell Quansah tripped Alberto Moleiro in the box.
Valencia's Javi Guerra made no mistake from the spot, halving England's lead at the break.
With England working hard to keep Spain at arm's length in the second period, McAtee - a creative midfielder who shines on the ball - ran himself into the ground.
Our Academy graduate was replaced in the 71st minute as Carsley sought to reinforce further back.

England held firm and were even able to make the game safe in stoppage time, when Jonathan Rowe was felled by Iturbe in the box.
Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson converted for the defending champions to ensure safe progress.
Speaking after the game, McAtee was only focused on what's to come.
"We're over the moon but the focus is the semi-final now," he said.
"We got through the group but we knew it wasn't good enough so we had to step it up today so we're glad we got the win."
McAtee and England will now face Netherlands at the Slovakian national stadium in Bratislava at 17:00 (UK) on Wednesday 25 June for a place in the final.
We'll have a report from that game on mancity.com and our official app shortly after it concludes.

Rashford eyes Barcelona move amid Yamal admiration
Marcus Rashford Hints at Barcelona Move Amid Yamal Praise Rashford's La Liga Ambition Raises Eyebrows Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has publicly revealed his interest in joining Barcelona, sparking fresh speculation about his Old Trafford future. In a recent interview with Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz, Rashford heaped praise on teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and didn't hold back when asked if he'd like to play alongside him. Advertisement 'Yes, for sure, Everyone wants to play with the best. Hopefully… we'll see,' Rashford responded, hinting at a potential move that would mark a dramatic shift in his career trajectory. Uncertain United Future for Rashford Having spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, Rashford finds himself at a crossroads. Despite being under contract with United for another three years, no offers have been tabled for the 26-year-old forward, according to Sky Sports News. The uncertainty is compounded by Manchester United's broader summer shake-up under head coach Ruben Amorim. Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof have all departed, while Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho are reportedly up for sale. Barcelona Interest Not New Barcelona's interest in Rashford isn't without foundation. Sporting director Deco admitted last month that the club 'like' Rashford as well as Liverpool's Luis Diaz. Additionally, Athletic Club's Nico Williams is also on their radar. Advertisement Rashford's admiration for Yamal may make a switch even more appealing. 'It's difficult to put into words what he's doing because he's not supposed to be doing that at 16 or 17. I don't think we've seen that before,' he said, clearly impressed by the young winger's breakout performances for both Barcelona and Spain. Photo: IMAGO United Already Planning Reinforcements United's recruitment drive continues, with Matheus Cunha arriving from Wolves for £62.5m. The Red Devils are also interested in Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, as Amorim seeks to rebuild after the club's lowest-ever Premier League finish. Advertisement Despite the transfer buzz, the Rashford situation remains unresolved. His high-profile comments about Barcelona are unlikely to go unnoticed by the Old Trafford hierarchy or the fans who've watched his journey from academy product to club figurehead. Our View – EPL Index Analysis From a Manchester United supporter's perspective, Marcus Rashford's latest comments are bound to divide opinion. On one hand, it's natural for any top-level player to admire talents like Lamine Yamal – the 17-year-old is already a phenomenon at Barcelona. But for a United stalwart to openly speak about wanting to play elsewhere, especially during such a critical rebuild, leaves a sour taste. There's also frustration over the timing. Rashford's dip in form and subsequent loan to Aston Villa were signs he was no longer an automatic starter. Fans hoped a strong pre-season would reignite his United career. Instead, this flirtation with Barcelona may feel like a distraction, if not a signal of intent to move on. Advertisement Some will point to Rashford's loyalty over the years – including playing through injuries and staying amid previous offers – as reason to give him grace. Others will argue that no player is bigger than the club, and Amorim's refresh demands full commitment. If Rashford stays, fans will expect clarity and professionalism. If he departs, they'll want it handled swiftly and with dignity. Either way, his comments make it clear that Rashford sees his career path beyond Manchester – and the club must now decide if it's time to cash in.

Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson not for sale at the moment
Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson not for sale at the moment Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea has been a subject of speculation. Juventus and Napoli are interested in signing the Senegal international, while three Premier League clubs and teams in Saudi Arabia have also been linked. Advertisement However, the Blues plan to have two strikers in their squad next season and Jackson is not for sale at the moment, per Sky Sports. The 24-year-old penned a two-year contract last summer, extending his deal at Stamford Bridge until 2033. Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal two years ago in a deal worth around £30 million. He has shown flashes of his brilliance but has struggled to perform on a consistent basis. The young centre-forward has produced impressive goalscoring numbers, registering 30 goals and 12 assists in 80 appearances across all competitions. However, he has endured periods of goal droughts and disciplinary issues during his time at Stamford Bridge. Advertisement Jackson's latest lapse in discipline came in Friday's 3-1 loss to Flamengo at the Club World Cup when he was sent off for a studs-up challenge minutes after coming on as a substitute. He later apologised for the red card on social media, but his mistake will give newcomer Liam Delap the chance to establish himself as Enzo Maresca's first-choice striker. Chelsea signed Delap from Ipswich Town after seeing off competition from Manchester United, Newcastle United and Everton. Stats from Transfermarkt

Valkyries sign former NCAA champion amid multiple roster moves
The post Valkyries sign former NCAA champion amid multiple roster moves appeared first on ClutchPoints. With the upcoming Eurobasket, a few WNBA teams are going to be losing key players as they head overseas to compete with their national teams. The Golden State Valkyries are one of those teams, and the organization made a few roster moves this weekend related to Eurobasket departures. One of the Valkyries' roster moves this weekend involved the signing of Laeticia Amihere, the team announced on Sunday. Advertisement With the signing of Laeticia Amihere, the Valkyries bolster their roster with a player they're already familiar with. Amihere was acquired by the team off of waivers when she was cut by the Atlanta Dream during the offseason. She participated in training camp and preseason with the team, and fans thought she might have solidified a spot on the Valkyries' final roster following a breakout performance against the Los Angeles Sparks. But Amihere was one of the team's final roster cuts before the start of the regular season. With the team set to lose players to Eurobasket, the Valkyries opened up a roster spot by cutting rookie center Kyara Linskens. The team also announced they had temporarily suspended Cecilia Zandalasini's contract. Zandalasini will participate in Eurobasket with the Italian national team. Amihere was the No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft by the Dream and played two seasons for the team. Last year, she appeared in 16 games for the Dream at a little over five minutes per game. She averaged 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds. Before the WNBA, Amihere was a member of the South Carolina Gamecocks' 2022 national championship team. In addition to Zandalasini, the Valkyries are expected to lose Temi Fagbenle, Julie Vanloo and Janelle Salaun to Eurobasket. Fagbenle will play with Great Britain, Vanloo for Belgium and Salaun for France. Advertisement The Valkyries have been a tough team this season despite their overall record of 3-5. They're coming off their best win of the season, a 95-68 takedown of the Las Vegas Aces.
