Ukrainian intelligence agencies are actively using messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram against Russia, RT has learned. Kiev's agents exploit loopholes in the platforms' security to create fake identities and spread misinformation and chaos. According to Russian investigators, Ukrainian intelligence officers, alongside other malicious actors like swindlers and con artists, often rely on databases containing personal data that are obtained through WhatsApp or Telegram that allow them to recruit agents or identify targets inside Russia. Such actions could be 'significantly more challenging or outright impossible' if not for the lax security measures on the part of the messengers themselves, the Russian investigators probing such cases believe. One aspect of their digital security architecture that Moscow takes issue with is the international tech companies' refusal to store sensitive personal data of Russian users within Russian jurisdiction. The Russian authorities have repeatedly reached out to the owners of both Telegram and WhatsApp, urging them to comply with relevant national regulations, but to no avail. Last month, the head of the State Duma's Information Policy Committee, Sergey Boyarsky, warned that both messengers could face a ban in Russia if they continue to ignore the law. 'Telegram does not comply with the existing legislation when it comes to the [storage] of personal data… and it will face sanctions, which are most likely to be more severe than now,' he told TASS at the time. Russia is not the only nation facing such problems, according to law enforcement officials. Its partners within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have repeatedly reached out to Moscow seeking assistance with tackling radical and extremist content in messengers like Telegram. Moscow advocates digital sovereignty, encouraging Russian companies to develop isolated systems and promoting state-run platforms. Russian tech giants VK is currently working on what could become a 'national messaging platform' called Max, widely described as a Russian equivalent to China's WeChat, which could provide a wide range of services within a single app.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Monday that the death toll from Israel's ongoing assault on the Strip has reached 60,933, with 150,027 injured since the outbreak of war on October 7, 2023. The humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate under siege and escalating famine. In the past 24 hours alone, the ministry reported 94 new fatalities—including four bodies recovered from beneath the rubble—and 439 injuries. According to ministry data, since 18 March 2025, 9,440 people have been killed and 37,986 injured, highlighting the scale of recent escalations. Among those known locally as 'Breadline Martyrs,' who were killed while trying to secure food aid, 29 were reported dead over the past day, with 300 others injured. Beyond casualties from bombardment, the ministry confirmed five new deaths due to famine and malnutrition, all adults, raising the overall number of famine-related fatalities to 180, including 93 children. The crisis continues to deepen amid severe restrictions on humanitarian aid. Gaza's Government Media Office reported that Israel allowed in only 14% of the required aid over the past eight days, alleging that some convoys were 'systematically looted as part of a policy to engineer chaos and starvation.' In a recent escalation, the Israeli army bombed the headquarters of the Palestinian Red Crescent in the southern city of Khan Younis, resulting in casualties among medical staff. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the attack as 'horrific,' extended condolences to the victims' families, and renewed calls to halt assaults on healthcare and humanitarian workers. The announcement came a day after a massive demonstration in Sydney, where an estimated 90,000 people marched across the Sydney Harbour Bridge under heavy rain and strong winds to protest Israel's military operations and highlight the humanitarian crisis. Acting NSW Police Commissioner Peter McKenna described it as the largest gathering ever seen on the bridge. 54-year-old housewife defrauded of 1.6cr in job, crypto investment scam
1 2 Hyderabad: A 54-year-old housewife from Mehdipatnam lost over 1.6 crore to fraudsters running an online part-time job and cryptocurrency trading scam. On June 2, the victim received a WhatsApp message offering a steady income for posting online reviews. After clicking the link in the message, she was added to a Telegram group. Encouraged by the administrators, I began investing incrementally," the victim said. Between June 17 and July 25, she transferred more than 1.6 crore across 24 bank transactions. During this time, she received 89,800 in 59 transactions. These early returns created the illusion of legitimacy. However, within weeks, the fraudsters began demanding increasingly large sums, citing issues such as credit score errors, taxes, and service charges. " When I refused to pay more, they threatened to freeze my trading balance of 1.6 crore unless I paid an 80% 'unfreeze fee'. That's when I realised it was a scam ," she told cyber crime police. Following her complaint, cyber crime police registered a case on August 2 under BNS against unknown individuals. Tech analysis revealed the defrauded sum was routed through 30 beneficiary bank accounts.
