Clarify age of admission to Class I: HC

Panaji: The Bombay high court on Monday sought clarity from govt regarding the age of children for admission to Nursery and Class I. The division bench of Justices Bharati Dangre and Nivedita Mehta sought clarity in the matter after a parent of a student aged five years and 11 months went to the HC stating that his child has been denied promotion from Upper KG to Class I on the ground that he hadn't completed six years. The petitioner told the HC that although a child must complete six years in Sep, according to the prevailing NEP, to be eligible for admission to Class I, he read reports that the policy has been kept on hold, and will be implemented in the next academic year. Since the old policy is still in force, his child is eligible to be admitted to Class I, he held. The school told the court that if this student was granted admission to Class I, there are 23 more who will request to be admitted. According to rules, they can have only 35-40 students in each class and there are already 49 in the class concerned, it said. The HC sought clarity on whether implementation of the NEP with regard to admission age is postponed to the next academic session. Of the 43 claims, the committee approved 29 while three were reverted back to the sub-divisional level committee for fresh scrutiny and verification.
