Smugglers hide cocaine in comic books; Rs 40 worth drugs recovered at Bengaluru airport
On July 18, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Bengaluru Zonal Unit (BZU) intercepted an Indian male passenger, who arrived in Bengaluru from Doha at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in the early hours of Friday.
The officers found that he was carrying in his baggage two superhero comics/ magazines which were 'unusually heavy. They recovered white powder concealed in the coverside of the magazine. The powder tested positive for cocaine,' said sources.
'The recovered cocaine weighing 4,006 grams (over 4 kg) and having an international market value of around Rs 40 crore was seized. The passenger, originally from Delhi was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985,' added sources.
'The contraband drug was meant for consumption in Bengaluru city,' said sources on condition of anonymity. The accused was produced before the special court and remanded to judicial custody the same day.
The DRI since April has seized 30-40 kgs of methamphetamine (crystal meth) from Bengaluru city.
In March the DRI seized three kg of cocaine at KIA. The Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) and police have also seized huge quantities of contraband drugs, especially meth.

He had about an inch and a half gash above his eyebrow, and then about an inch above his other eyebrow.' 'Then they took his head and rammed it into a lamppost three times. Then they all punched him and kicked him, and they stripped his shoes, off his trousers, off his underwear off. They took his phone and they took his money, and then they left him for dead,' she told The Journal. According to Murray, the man was bleeding heavily and appeared to be in severe shock. 'His legs were completely saturated in blood. The blood had actually congealed so much we had to cut his jacket off to check for wounds on his chest,' she added. Fine Gael councillor Baby Pereppadan, after meeting the victim post-hospitalisation, described the man as deeply traumatised and called for increased Garda patrols in the area. He remarked, 'He couldn't speak much because of the shock he was in. He is not taking any visitors at the moment. Small incidents like these are happening frequently in Tallaght.' Indian man injured in ‘mindless, racist' attack in Ireland suburb
An Indian man in his 40s was hospitalised following what has been dubbed 'mindless, racist violence' in a suburb of the Irish capital of Dublin, with the Indian Ambassador to Ireland calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. According to local reports, the victim had arrived in Ireland a few weeks ago when he was targeted in an assault at Parkhill Road in Tallaght on Saturday evening. The Gardai, as the police are known in Ireland, have opened an investigation into the case. 'Gardaí in Tallaght were alerted to an incident at Parkhill Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24 on the evening of Saturday 19th July, 2025, at approximately 6pm,' the local police said in a statement. 'Gardaí attended the scene and a male, aged in his 40s was taken to Tallaght University Hospital with injuries,' the statement added. Indian Ambassador to Ireland Akhilesh Mishra was among those taking to social media to express his shock over the attack and also questioned some of the Irish media coverage of the violent assault. 'How can an 'ALLEGED' assault cause such horrible injury and bleeding? Aghast at the insensitivity & obfuscation of RTE [Ireland's national media outlet]… Hope the perpetrators are brought to justice,' he posted on X. False accusations about the man were later spread on social media in an attempt to justify the attack. 'Racists and Far Right groups have stoked the fire against immigrants for months and this has fuelled racism across Dublin city. Our local community will be taking a stand against this attack. The people being attacked are our neighbours, their children are the children of our neighbours. We must stand by them and not allow racists who inflict violence to gain any more. 'Who lives here belongs here! Let this be a turning point against racist attacks in our community, Tallaght!'

16-year-old Dalit boy sexually assaulted by 7 minors after he lost Rs 50 bet in Uttar Pradesh
MEERUT: A 16-year-old Dalit boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by as many as seven youths (all minors) after he lost a Rs 50 bet during a cricket match and could not pay. The culprits recorded a video of the incident and circulated it among peers, who also sexually assaulted him several times by threatening to upload the clip on social media. Though the initial assault took place nearly a month ago at a village in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, the complaint was lodged only on Monday after the traumatised boy could not bear it any longer and narrated his ordeal to his family. The boy's father said his son was so traumatised that he did not step out of the house for days. "The boy was sexually assaulted several times by the group members, all minors, on the pretext of his obscene video," said circle officer Vaibhav Pandey. "Following a complaint, an FIR under sections 3 (2)(5) of the SC/ST Act, and 3A and 4 of the Pocso Act has been registered against seven youths, and three of them have been detained. Medical examination of the victim was done and his statements were recorded. Investigation is on. The dispute over the cricket match bet is also being investigated," said Pandey.
