Matthew Perry lawyer reveals 'disturbing' texts between doctors charged with death

A lawyer who led the investigation into Matthew Perry's death has spoken about the "disturbing" text messages sent between doctors Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez
A lawyer who led the investigation and brought charges surrounding Matthew Perry 's death has spoken out about the "disturbing" text messages between doctors Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez - who pled guilty to drug offenses.

Speaking to ITV's documentary Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, lawyer Martin Estrada detailed the evidence against the two doctors, who have pleaded guilty to supplying the Friends star with ketamine. The actor died in October 2023 aged 54.

He was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in the Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, having overdosed on the drug ketamine. It comes after 'Ketamine Queen' to stand trial over Friends star Matthew Perry's death as court date set.

In August last year, five people were charged over the actor's death, with Plasencia, Chavez, Matthew's personal assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, acquaintance Erik Fleming and 'Ketamine Queen' Jasveen Sangha being arrested.
Fleming, Iwamasa and Chavez pled guilty shortly afterwards, while Plasencia agreed to plead guilty in June this year. Sangha has pleaded not guilty, with her trial set to take place next month.
Opening up about the texts between Drs Plasencia and Chavez in the documentary, Martin Estrada said: "Dr. Pacentia was very clear in text messages and other messages in saying that he saw this as an opportunity to make a lot of money in a short amount of time.

'He allegedly did just that. The indictment contains evidence that he sold in a month 20 vials of ketamine to Mr. Perry in exchange for $55,000.'
'They even talked about the fact that this wasn't the right way to administer ketamine yet this was a golden opportunity to make money. At one point, Dr. Plasencia writes to Dr. Chavez, 'I wonder how much this moron will pay.''
Former LA police officer Greg Kading added: 'There was just such a degree of almost disdain for Mr. Perry and these are medical doctors.'

'They were using an encrypted app. Often times people think that because it's an encrypted app, law enforcement can't access it but that's not the case. Often times law enforcement is ahead of the game. Within the indictment, there's a whole plethora of criminal activity. Dr. Placentia even teaches Mr. Iwamasa how to do the injections.
"Allegedly, you have Dr. Placentia providing ketamine to a live-in assistant who has no medical training whatsoever and that live-in assistant is administering the ketamine to a person whose risk factors are through the roof."
The documentary looks back on Matthew Perry's career, struggle with addiction and investigation surrounding his death. Last week, his on-screen mum Morgan Fairchild revealed that she had tried to help him beat his addiction to drugs.
Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy airs tonight at 9pm on ITV1.

ITV 'launch formal investigation into Good Morning Britain' after shocking blunder

ITV have reportedly launched a formal investigation into an incident that sparked outrage on Good Morning Britain earlier this year on Holocaust Memorial Day ITV have reportedly launched a formal probe into Good Morning Britain after one 'humiliating blunder too big to ignore' left viewers outraged. The broadcaster's long-running early morning programme aired a tribute to the victims of one of history's biggest atrocities on Holocaust Memorial Day earlier this year. ‌ On that day, presenter Ranvir Singh was reporting and while she mentioned that the six million people killed in the death camps were 'disabled, gay or belonged to another ethnic group', but did not make it clear that that figure applied to solely the Jewish victims, and didn't appear to realise that there were 11 million victims in total. The episode in question aired on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in January, and it is now thought that the incident has become the subject of a formal investigation. ‌ A source told The Sun: "Good Morning Britain is a flagship programme for ITV and to allow a blunder like this was too big to simply ignore. They are now investigating how this happened and the top brass want answers. ITV pride themselves on their news coverage but this was lower than sub par." ‌ The insider also claimed that 'the probe will uncover who allowed it to happen and there will be consequences' for those involved, adding that it 'has been hugely humiliating and is a headache the bosses over at ITV really could do without.' The Mirror has approached ITV for comment on the probe they have launched. At the time, the blunder sparked outrage and Ranvir, who also regularly covers for Lorraine Kelly on her eponymous daytime show, was quick to apologise for her error. She said: "In yesterday's news when we reported on the memorial events in Auschwitz, we said six million people were killed in the Holocaust, but crucially failed to say they were Jewish. That was our mistake, for which we apologise." Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the show said: "In our studio introduction to the report on the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz we failed to acknowledge the Jewish community which we have since apologised for live on air in today's programme. "This failure was done in error, however clear reference to Jewish people in the correspondent news report from Auschwitz immediately followed, as well as a further extended programme report referencing the six million Jewish victims. Yesterday's programme also included a live studio interview with a survivor of Auschwitz, Rachel Levy alongside Olivia Marks-Woldman, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Memorial Trust, both of whom talked candidly about their own experiences as Jewish people." The clip came under fire on social media, with one person writing: "Disgusting shameful!" A second added: "This can't be for real?" "This coverage is utterly disgraceful! This history must not be forgotten, nor must it be distorted. The Jews were the victims then - we must make sure that they will never be the victims again," said another.

'I met the creepy doctor charged with supplying drugs to tragic Matthew Perry'

Dr. Salvador Plasencia, charged with supplying drugs to Matthew Perry, left one of his former patients 'with the creeps' after an 'odd' visit to his deserted surgery A reporter and super fan who was at Matthew Perry 's home hours after the star died says she met the doctor charged with supplying drugs to the star and he gave her the creeps. Katy Forrester has recalled what she saw the day the acting legend died back in 2023 - and the former patient of Dr. Salvador Plasencia says she knew something wasn't right about him. Matthew's doctor has pleaded guilty to supplying the Friends actor with ketamine before his tragic death. He admitted four counts to a federal court judge in Los Angeles last month, having branded the late actor a "moron" in text messages." He was one of five people who were charged in connection with the 54-year-old death two years ago. Now the former patient has given her account and says she had an 'incredibly odd' visit to the crooked physician. 'He'd given me the creeps,' the editor at The US Sun wrote. 'After filling out forms and heading into a private room, the same man then appeared in a white coat and joked he was not just the receptionist, he was also the doctor. 'When I realised who I'd been treated by and read the sweeping indictment, I felt slightly sick, it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end." She went on to say in the article: "I have also witnessed the all-too-prevalent Hollywood culture of 'doctor shopping', which sees greedy, immoral doctors dishing out killer drugs to rich and famous addicts for a handsome profit." The actor was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles on October 28, 2023. He died at 4.17pm on the same day, aged 54. An investigation found the cause of Perry's death to be ruled as an accident from the 'acute effects of ketamine', the exact manner of which came from drowning. He starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004 on NBC's mega hit sitcom, but he struggled with addiction for years, dating back to his time on the show, when he became one of the biggest stars of his generation as Chandler Bing. California-based Plasencia had already been charged following the death of much-loved Matthew. He has pleaded guilty to four counts of illegal distribution of the drug, which is used as a prescription anaesthetic. Prosecutors said that he now faces up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced. He had previously pleaded not guilty, but in exchange for the guilty pleas prosecutors agreed to drop three additional counts of distribution of ketamine and two counts of falsifying records. Prosecutors outlined the charges in court before the plea, and said along with Plasencia's lawyers that he did not sell Perry the dose that killed the actor. They described, and Plasencia admitted, that Perry froze up and his blood pressure spiked when the doctor gave him one injection, but Plasencia still left more ketamine for Perry's assistant to inject. In his memoir, he admitted that he struggled to watch Friends because it reminded him of the tough times he went through. 'I didn't watch the show, and haven't watched the show, because I could go, drinking, opiates, drinking, cocaine,' he later added. 'I could tell season by season by how I looked. That's why I don't wanna watch it, because that's what I see.' Perry explained: 'I was taking 55 Vicodin a day, I weighed 128 lbs, I was on Friends getting watched by 30 million people — and that's why I can't watch the show, 'cause I was brutally thin." 'I had a rule that I would never drink or do drugs while working,' he said. 'Because I had too much respect for the five people I was working with. So I was never wasted while working.'

Matthew Perry documentary leaves fans in tears after it depicts the actor's 'heartbreaking' final days - as 'Ketamine Queen' who supplied him with the deadly drug pleads guilty

A 'heartbreaking' documentary depicting the final days of Friends star Matthew Perry left viewers in tears as it hit UK screens on Monday. The actor died at the age of 54 after he accidentally drowned in his hot tub following a dose of ketamine on October 28, 2023, which eventually led to several arrests. And as the documentary, Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, was aired on ITV1, many viewers reacted to seeing the devastating build-up to his final days, as well his own reflection on his battles with drug and alcohol addiction. The programme, originally broadcast on Peacock in the US, aired in the UK as it was revealed that the so-called 'Ketamine Queen' Jasveen Sangha plead guilty to selling the drugs that ultimately killed the star. The documentary did not feature any of Matthew's Friends co-stars, with director Robert Palumbo saying they were 'reluctant' to appear in the programme. Fans took to social media to reflect on Matthew's life being so tragically cut short after his death. Posts on X included: 'This Matthew Perry documentary is heartbreaking;' 'Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy is now on ITV, STV and ITVX. The world is missing a beautiful, funny and caring man. I can't believe he passed away almost 2 years ago. We miss you Matty;' 'Matthew Perry interview on ITV1 and almost 20 minutes in and I'm crying;' 'So sad to hear how Matthew Perry got taken advantage of, in a bid to help his addiction;' 'These people only cared about making a profit, not about his health and what they were doing that was wrong;' 'Watching the sad tale of our FRIENDS Matthew Perry. So tragic. RIP bro in harms;' 'Watching documentary on Matthew Perry on ITV. If you have an interest in addiction I would encourage you to catch up on it at some stage. Very sad...' It was revealed on Monday that Sangha will plead guilty to five charges, including one count of distributing ketamine resulting in death or bodily injury, according to the Justice Department. Fans took to social media to reflect on Matthew's life being so tragically cut short after his tragic death Federal prosecutors called her Los Angeles home a 'drug-selling emporium' and found dozens of vials of ketamine during a raid. Sangha will enter the deal in the coming weeks according to the Justice Department, and the drug-involved charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years. A 10-year maximum sentence is set for each ketamine distribution charge, and the distribution of ketamine resulting in death or serious bodily injury charge carries a 15-year sentence. Before his tragic death, Perry had been taking ketamine, which can be used for treatment-resistant depression. However, he had been receiving daily transfusions of the drug. Following his death, the medical examiner determined that he had taken a large amount shortly before his death that could not have been left over from his last infusion because the half-life of the drug is only three to four hours. Doctor Mark Chaves, 53, formally pleaded guilty to illegally distributing ketamine in October of last year. Facing up to 10 years in prison, even with a plea deal, Chavez will be sentenced on April 2, 2025. Prior to court hearing, Chavez agreed to stop practicing medicine, and handed his passport to authorities. It's understood Chavez sold ketamine lozenges to Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who is accused of then providing them to Perry. Plasencia is facing separate charges, to which he pleaded not guilty. The doctor is also accused of texting Chavez 'I wonder how much this moron will pay' when he learned Perry was seeking ketamine. Prosecutors offered lesser charges to Chavez and two others in exchange for their cooperation. Perry's personal assistant Kenneth Iwamasa and TV producer Erik Fleming, both of whom pleaded guilty in August, were also charged. Perry was found dead by his assistant, and the medical examiner later ruled the primary cause of death was ketamine. The actor had been using the drug through his regular doctor in a legal but off-label treatment for depression that has become increasingly common. Perry struggled with addiction for years, dating back to his time on 'Friends,' when he became one of the biggest stars of his generation as Chandler Bing.
