Losing finalist Stuart Bingham challenged aspiring cueists to become the next Marco Fu Ka-chun or Ng On-yee as he reviewed a 'top-class' tournament after it concluded late on Sunday with Neil Robertson claiming the title.
'Hopefully it can encourage younger players,' Bingham said. 'I went to the [Hong Kong Sports Institute] and there were a couple of young lads playing.
'You've got Marco, you've got On-yee – good role models for up-and-coming Hong Kong players. If [youngsters] watch what we've done this week … surely that will give them a lot of confidence to get on the practice table, practise hard and one day they could be here playing in their hometown.'
Despite a testing time off the table – he learned of the deaths of his long-term coach during the week and his uncle on the morning of the final – Bingham had only positive words about the event at Kai Tak Arena.

'I think it's been one of the best tournaments we've had,' he said. 'It adds a new city to the calendar. We've been so welcomed by everyone. Lovely city, nice hotel, everything's been top-class. I hopefully look forward to coming back here and going one step better.'

Former world champion Neil Robertson the third snooker star to become Hong Kong resident
Former world snooker champion Neil Robertson revealed on Friday that he and his family had acquired Hong Kong residency. The Australian, who made the announcement on his official Weibo account, becomes the third high-profile player to take advantage of the city's Quality Migrant Admission Scheme. England's seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan and world No 1 Judd Trump have both previously become residents. In a post in simplified Chinese, Robertson wrote that he was 'very honoured that my whole family and I have obtained Hong Kong identity cards'. He added: 'This is not only a significant moment for me personally, but also an honour for our entire family. Hong Kong has always been my blessed land. I have achieved many great successes here and have forged a deep friendship with this city.' Neil Robertson called Hong Kong 'my blessed land' in a Weibo post. India's RPL circuit ‘will be high-quality sevens experience' for Hong Kong
Hong Kong players will be able to gain vital insights when they rub shoulders with some of the world's best sevens exponents in India in June. Advertisement That is the view of Paul John, the head of Hong Kong sevens rugby, who said it was imperative for his charges to acquire more experience outside the handful of do-or-die tournaments they contest every year. Michael Coverdale, Mak Kwai-chung and Fong Kit-fung are all going to the pioneering Indian-staged Rugby Premier League (RPL), whose six franchise teams will be led by elite coaches and feature marquee international performers. 'Our players will play with and against world-class players, and under world-class coaches, in a completely different environment – which is great for their development on a number of fronts,' John said. 'They'll also mix and train with top players for two weeks before the tournament, so it'll be a high-quality sevens experience.' Hong Kong pair's ‘chronic' Asia Triathlon Cup swims leave coach with National Games fear
Cade Wright and Hilda Choi Yan-yin paid for delivering 'chronic' swimming performances, as the Hong Kong pair finished 10th and 12th, respectively, in the Asia Triathlon Cup in Dexing on Saturday. Advertisement Of the city's five men, Wong Tsz-to delivered the best effort to finish 12th. While Wong and his colleagues are fighting to retain their Hong Kong Sports Institute full-time status, head coach Andrew Wright said the need for Cade Wright and Choi to improve in the water was growing urgent. 'Their swims were chronic – losing two minutes is poor,' coach Wright added. 'There's still time to fix it … if we can't, there's no point entering the National Games individual race [in November].' Huang Anqi of China won the race in two hours, one minute and two seconds. Cade Wright came home in 2:06.52, while Choi finished in 2:07.40.
