For SMEs in need of fast access to money and advice… look no farther than the National Enterprise Hub

Accessing finance and advice was once a time-consuming task, as founders navigated various sources of information and support, but the introduction of the National Enterprise Hub (NEH) has successfully streamlined and simplified this process for Irish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
In fact, since its launch just over a year ago, more than 6,500 SMEs have been able to get direct business help from the NEH.
An initiative of the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment and Enterprise Ireland, the NEH was set up as a single national point of contact to make it easier and quicker for SME owners and managers to find the right government funding and support to help them scale. It brings together information and resources on over 250 government supports from 30 different state bodies.
In the first 12 months of operation, the NEH has attracted over 220,000 active online users to its website. The top grants availed of by businesses to date through the Hub have ranged in value from €3,000 to €7,000.
They have primarily been focused on supporting businesses with cashflow, expansion and productivity to help them deal with concerns around rising costs and competitiveness.
Along with the online offering, the NEH also has a full-time dedicated phone line that connects organisations to specialist advisers who can discuss potential grant options relevant for their business.
The most accessed grants, supports and programmes available to entrepreneurs are offered by: Enterprise Ireland, the Department of Social Protection, the Local Enterprise Office network, MicroFinance Ireland, Revenue, SBCI (which provides low-cost credit to SMEs), the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), Skillnet Ireland and Solas.
The idea for the NEH first came on the back of research which found that while there is a huge range of government supports available to SMEs, about two in five small businesses had never availed of one.
One of the main aims of the NEH was to engage with those businesses who haven't previously taken advantage of the supports available by making it easier and more efficient for businesses to access and avail of grants, funding, loans and expert advice than ever before.
The businesses that have sought supports through the NEH come from a range of industries, with most falling within professional services, retail and consumer products and health and beauty. There is also strong traction from companies within the information and technology sector, and from those in the tourism and hospitality space.
The popularity of the NEH shows that SMEs are looking to access government support, and the good news for those that do is that help is at hand that will help business owners take their companies to the next level.
Looking ahead, the NEH is developing new ways with its partners across government to make it easier for businesses not just to find the right support, but to also simplify the application processes for grants and training supports, to help them use AI to reduce friction for businesses, and to maximise impact for government agency supports.

Irish food giant Glanbia upgraded its full-year guidance for 2025 on the back of strong results for the first half of the year, with revenues rising 6% to $1.93bn (€1.7bn) driven by growth in its Health & Nutrition (H&N) and Dairy Nutrition (DN) divisions. The Kilkenny firm, which separated from the farmer-owned co-op Tirlán to focus on its global business, increased its interim dividend by 10% to 17.20 cent per share and returned €62.8m to shareholders via share buyback programs. Glanbia's Health & Nutrition division, which creates flavourings and ingredients for other companies, saw an 18% revenue increase, driven by a 6.9% rise in volume and a significant 11.5% contribution from acquisition. Glanbia announced the acquisition of Sweetmix, a Brazil-based nutritional solutions business, to facilitate growth in the Latin American market. The Dairy Nutrition segment delivered a 14.1% increase in revenue. This was driven by a combination of volume growth and favourable dairy market pricing. Glanbia CEO Hugh McGuire. However, the company's Performance Nutrition (PN) division faced challenges, with a 3.8% decline in revenue. This was primarily attributed to elevated whey protein costs and anticipated declines in non-core brands. However, Glanbia said there were positive signs of recovery, particularly with the flagship Optimum Nutrition brand, which saw a revenue increase in the second quarter. CEO Hugh McGuire said: 'Today's results reflect a first half of significant execution and progress as we generated 6% revenue growth in the period, underpinned by strong growth in H&N and DN and a sequential improvement in PN through the period as the Group navigated significant macroeconomic volatility.' Glanbia announced the appointment of Paul Duffy as Chair-Designate, who will succeed Donard Gaynor on January 1.

Ardstone to acquire Spencer Place Residential development for €177m

Ronan Group has announced the sale of Spencer Place Residential, a residential development in Dublin's North Docklands, to Ardstone for €177m. The group said the deal marks the highest value residential investment deal in Ireland this year and underscores renewed investor confidence in the sector. Spencer Place Residential marks the final phase of the Spencer Place campus and includes 360 private units across two buildings, offering build-to-rent apartments and co-living spaces. The development also includes a 24-hour concierge, gym, cinema, co-working areas and top-floor lounges and is designed to support a "vibrant, sustainable lifestyle" for over 700 residents. The development was operated by Ronan Group's Libra Living platform, which managed the day-to-day operations of the scheme. Ronan Group bought the six-acre mixed-use Spencer Place campus in the North Docklands in 2016 and secured the largest pre-let ever achieved in the Irish market, to Salesforce. The Ronan Group-developed Salesforce Tower Dublin is the greenest Salesforce Tower in the world. Fully electric and certified LEED Platinum, it is one of the first NZEB compliant buildings in Ireland to be occupied by a commercial tenant. Together with the adjoining Samuel Hotel, developed by Ronan Group and leased to Dalata, Salesforce Tower was purchased by Blackstone in 2022 for over €500m. Gavin Wyley, Head of Residential Development at Ronan Group, said that Spencer Place Residential is a development that has played a central role in the transformation of Dublin's North Docklands. "The price achieved reflects the strong fundamentals of Ireland's economy and the improving sentiment in the residential investment market. We expect this momentum to continue into 2026, supported by recent government amendments to rental caps and apartment standards coupled with sustained demand for high-quality urban living," he added. The Ronan Group also has other projects in the pipeline. Waterfront South Central, its flagship mixed-use development, is currently under on Dublin's North Wall Quay. It will include the European headquarters of Citi, which is due for completion next year. It is also developing a new urban quarter at the Glass Bottle site in Dublin 4. The site, covering 37 acres on the Poolbeg Peninsula, will comprise over 3,800 new homes alongside more than 1 million square feet of commercial space. 894 apartments are currently under construction and are set to start welcoming their first residents later this year, while planning has been lodged for a 20-storey, 228-key hotel.
