NEW DELHI: Congress leader Udit Raj has strongly criticised party colleague and Lok Sabha MP
Shashi Tharoor
for his recent statements in Panama, accusing him of acting as a "spokesperson for the BJP's publicity stunts."
During his address as part of a multi-party delegation in Panama, Tharoor discussed India's evolving approach to counter-terrorism, specifically mentioning the 2016 Surgical Strike and 2019 Balakot airstrike. He emphasized how these operations demonstrated India's willingness to cross both the Line of Control and international borders to target terrorist facilities in Pakistan.
Referring to 2016's Surgical strike and 2019's Balakot airstrike in his address, the Congress MP said, "What has changed in recent years is that the terrorists have also realised they will have a price to pay; on that, let there be no doubt.
When, for the first time, India breached the Line of Control between India and Pakistan to conduct a surgical strike on a terror base, a launch pad - the Uri strike in September 2015. That was already something we had not done before.
Even during the Kargil War, we had not crossed the Line of Control; in Uri, we did, and then came the attack in Pulwama in January 2019. This time, we crossed not only the Line of Control but also the international border, and we struck the terrorist headquarters in Balakot.

This time, we have gone beyond both of those. We have not only gone beyond the Line of Control and the international border. We have struck at the Punjabi heartland of Pakistan by hitting terror bases, training centres, and terror headquarters in nine places," Tharoor said.
Udit Raj took strong exception to these remarks, particularly objecting to what he perceived as Tharoor diminishing Congress's historical achievements.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Raj stated, "How could you denigrate the golden history of Congress by saying that before PM Modi, India never crossed LOC and the international border?" He cited examples from 1965 and 1971 wars, as well as surgical strikes during the UPA government, to counter Tharoor's narrative.
"Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has become the super spokesperson of the BJP, speaking in favor of PM Modi and his government," Raj told ANI. He also accused the current Central government of inappropriately taking credit for the Armed Forces' actions.
Interestingly, Tharoor, who is currently leading an all-party delegation to various nations including the United States, Guyana, and Panama, was not among the
Congress party
's official recommendations for these outreach delegations.

"Very open, good interaction": Germany's Konrad Adenauer Stiftung expresses solidarity with all-party delegation

Berlin [Germany], June 6 (ANI): Christian Echle, Head of the Department of Asia and the Pacific at the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, has expressed deep shock and solidarity with India over the Pahalgam terror attack. Speaking to ANI, he praised India's response to the attack, calling it 'well adjusted' and hoped for peaceful ways to resolve the conflict. Echle emphasised that there is a deep solidarity with the Indian people and concern about the potential escalation of violence. He positively interacted with an all-party delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, discussing topics including the Pahalgam terror attack and potential cooperation between India and Germany. 'It was very open and good interaction. We discussed several topics, of course, the recent terrorist attack was a very important and relevant topic. We also talked about the potential for cooperation between India and Germany- how it has grown over the last few years,' said Echle. The delegation's visit is part of India's global outreach following Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam attack, which involved targeted strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. 'It was a very open and positive exchange', he remarked. Speaking about the Pahalgam terror attack, Echle said, 'It was a deep shock and devastating to see the way in which the attack (Pahalgam terror attack) was executed. There is a deep solidarity with the Indian people from our side. There was also concern that this would spread into a violent conflict. The response was well adjusted. We hope that we will also find peaceful ways to solve this conflict.' The delegation, led by Ravi Shankar Prasad, includes BJP MPs Daggubati Purandeswari, MJ Akbar, Gulam Ali Khatana, and Samik Bhattacharya; Congress MP Amar Singh, Priyanka Chaturvedi from Shiv Sena (UBT,) AIADMK MP M Thambidurai and former diplomat Pankaj Saran. The delegation arrived in Germany after concluding their visit to Belgium. Earlier, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said they raised strong concerns about terrorism during their visit to Brussels and generals of Pakistan 'run that country with the help of a military terrorist coalition', which is a 'threat' to democracy and humanity. This diplomatic effort forms part of India's global outreach following Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam by Pakistan-sponsored militants that claimed 26 lives and injured several others. Subsequently, the Indian Armed Forces carried out targeted strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of over 100 terrorists linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. Foreign policy has collapsed, outreach failed: Congress

NEW DELHI: Suggesting that none of the countries the all-party delegations toured denounced Pakistan for terrorism, Congress Friday said Modi govt's foreign policy has collapsed completely, which is evident from even India's all- weather friend Russia stating US President Donald Trump mediated to seal the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. AICC spokesperson Supriya Shrinate referred to Russia's statement that President Vladimir Putin praised Trump for settling the Indo-Pak conflict, arguing that the extraordinary remark came on the back of Trump asserting 11 times that he had threatened trade sanctions to force the ceasefire. She said govt's foreign policy has collapsed as Pakistan which was ostracised as a terrorist country prior to 2014 is back on the world stage, with red carpet welcome being given to its netas, and the country being appointed to big committees of UN besides securing loans from multilateral bodies.

Anbumani proposes president post for himself, ‘veto' for dad

Chennai: PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has proposed to party founder S Ramadoss a compromise formula that gives him the official leadership and his father a virtual veto power on party policies and decisions, multiple sources told TOI. At the 45-minute meeting between the warring father-son, sources said, Anbumani did much of the talking while the senior maintained a studied silence. At the end of it, Ramadoss remained non-committal. Anbumani's associates said the meeting was a sudden decision. "Ayya (Ramadoss) was unaware of the visit till our president (Anbumani) arrived at the Thailapuram farmhouse," said an Anbumani supporter. "He (Anbumani) tried to reason that he was the cadres choice and that of the elected general council, and he is open to accepting his father's decisions, including those on alliances and party nominees. " Sources said there was not much discussion on P Mukundan, the grandson of Ramadoss, who resigned from the post of youth wing secretary last week, and whose appointment had triggered a war of words between the father and the son. "That's now a closed chapter," said the source. "The party founder was non-committal. He neither rejected nor accepted the proposal after the meeting, and there has been no update since then," a party source said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? He alleged, among other things, that Anbumani pressured him to strike an alliance with BJP in the last election. Sources said Thuglak editor S Gurumurthy and former Chennai mayor Saidai S Duraisamy have got a "deeper understanding" of the issues in the PMK leadership after spending more than two hours with the senior Ramadoss. Ramadoss had 'demoted' Anbumani from president to working president hours before Union minister Amit Shah arrived in Chennai in April to strike an alliance with AIADMK.
