Boy (13) uploaded sexual abuse photographs of sister (6) to Discord social media channel
A 13-year-old boy who sexually abused his six-year-old sister, took photographs of her and uploaded 64 images of this child abuse to a social media website will be sentenced later. The court heard that the boy, who is from the south of the country, had unsupervised access to the internet from a very young age and later told gardaí that he first viewed pornography when he was six years old. A local sergeant accepted that the family were very isolated in a rural area. Their father was deceased and the children were no longer attending school. The sergeant told Eilis Brennan SC, prosecuting, that gardaí were alerted that inappropriate images had been uploaded to the social media platform Discord and the connected account was traced back to the children's home. READ MORE The young girl was instantly identifiable to the gardaí as the subject of the images that had been uploaded. The now 16-year-old, who is currently in a residential treatment centre for minors who sexually offend, came forward to the Central Criminal Court on signed pleas. He pleaded guilty to six incidences of oral rape, nine charges of production of what is legally termed as child pornography and five charges of distribution of that material on dates between June 2022 and December 2022. The sergeant accepted that the teenager had unrestricted internet access from the age of five years old and agreed that he was manipulated by others online to post these photographs. Ms Brennan read into the record a victim impact statement that had been prepared by the now eight-year-old girl. The girl said she 'feels much happier' now and that the foster family, with whom she has been living since the gardaí called to her home in December 2022, 'feels like home'. 'When I think about him I feel a bit scared,' the girl continued. She said she would really like her brother to write her a letter of apology because she said when people do bad things they 'say sorry'. The girl said she told her mother 'when it first happened' but Ms Brennan said 'no action was taken'. Ms Justice Mary Ellen Ring noted the child has no control over when and where the images of her may appear again on the internet. The judge said as the girl gets older, she will realise that she is 'out there for others like her brother to get sexual gratification from seeing her abused'. Ms Justice Ring said these are the long term impacts for her, which she said the child is hopefully unaware of at the moment as an eight-year-old girl. The judge said she had 'a huge set of reports' in relation to the accused but only a paragraph, the victim impact statement, in relation to 'the other child who also has rights'. Ms Justice Ring said she wanted further information as to how the abuse has impacted the girl, asking the investigating sergeant to speak to others – like her care worker – that may be able to provide more information to the court. Ms Justice Ring said there are other impacts, that the child as an eight-year-old may not be aware of and said she wanted further information. She adjourned the case to July 21st to allow for further reports. 'What you have done is horrendous,' Ms Justice Ring said addressing the 16-year-old. 'If you were an adult you would be going out that door- that is the custody door. You need to be conscious of the jeopardy you are in the moment.'

Taoiseach slams vandalism of constituency office as 'undemocratic' after red paint smeared on walls
GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING the third graffiti attack on the constituency office of the Taoiseach Micheál Martin – this time by an apparent pro-Palestinian activist. The incident overnight on Evergreen Street near Turner's Cross in Cork city saw red paint daubed on the building and a sign remonstrating about how the Government is handling the Palestinian genocide pinned to the door. A spokesperson for the Taoiseach confirmed the incident and said the attack on the constituency office was 'un-democratic'. 'I can confirm there was an act of vandalism on the constituency office last night, this is the third such attack. 'Personal threats have also previously been sent to the office, warning the Taoiseach it will be made impossible for him to navigate in public spaces. 'This is a working office with constituency staff acting on a daily basis to support the community on various issues. Those responsible for these criminal acts and intimidatory and abusive threats are fundamentally anti-democratic. Advertisement 'We believe the vast majority of people who are appalled by the situation in Gaza would have nothing to do with such actions,' the spokesperson said. A statement has been requested from An Garda Síochána. Security has been stepped up for politicians in the last year as threats from various protest groups and individuals increased. This is a standard provision for a number of Cabinet members. Gardaí in Cork provide a security post on the Taoiseach's home and a close protection detail is provided to him by national unit detectives. An armed garda post has been put on the house of Tánaiste Simon Harris in Wicklow amid threats to him and his family from Far Right protestors. A number of other politicians have been subject to threats, intimidation and vandalism attacks by protestors from a disparate and wide ranging set of motivations. Garda sources said investigators believe the attack on the Taoiseach's constituency office is from Far Left protestors. Their investigation will focus on CCTV and house to house enquiries and any online traffic or threats in recent days. With additional reporting from Conor O'Carroll. Man refused bail after drive-by gun attack is leading instigator in violent Limerick feud
Shane Blackhall, (20), Mungret Court, Watergate, Limerick, appeared before Limerick District Court today in respect of a gun attack at Hyde Avenue, January 6th last A man charged in connection with a drive-by shooting in Limerick, is one of the leading instigators of an ongoing feud in the city, Gardai alleged in court Tuesday. Shane Blackhall, (20), Mungret Court, Watergate, Limerick, appeared before Limerick District Court today in respect of a gun attack at Hyde Avenue, January 6th last. Gardai alleged during Tuesday's bail hearing that Mr Blackhall was 'actively involved' in an ongoing violent feud and they were fearful someone would be killed or seriously injured if he was granted bail. Detective Garda Seamus Murphy told the court he charged Mr Blackhall on Monday with one count of possessing a firearm in suspicious circumstances on January 6th. Det Gda Murphy said he also charged Mr Blackhall with one count of unlawfully taking a blue Volkswagen car, which Gardai allege was used in the January 6th drive-by shooting. Mr Blackhall was also charged with possessing €26,000 worth of cannabis for sale or supply, and, possessing cannabis, which Garda Murphy said was found in Mr Blackhall's home when Gardai searched it on July 10th last, as part of investigations into the January 6th shooting. Garda Murphy told the court that at 6.34pm on January 6th last, Gardai responded to reports of a shooting at Hyde Avenue, Limerick, and discovered a stolen Volkswagen car abandoned and extensively damaged after it had crashed into a lamppost near the scene. Gardai found two 9mm bullet casings inside the car a well as a further five 9mm bullet casings at various points along Hyde Avenue. Garda Murphy said that forensic analysis of the bullet casings found inside the car and along Hyde Avenue showed they were '9mm Luger' ammunition, and that, 'all fired from the same weapon'. Garda Murphy said investigating gardai believe that a 'Glock, semi-automatic' firearm was used in the gun attack. Garda Murphy said Gardai had harvested CCTV footage showing the stolen VW car traveling along Hyde Avenue and 'slowing' as it comes to houses, and a 'number of shots are discharged' from the car. Garda Murphy said the footage shows the car 'travel at speed' away onto Lenihan Avenue, Byrne Avenue, and onto Rosbrien Road, passing an ESB premises. The CCTV footage also shows the car crashed at Ashbourne Avenue and two individuals fleeing the vehicle, said Garda Murphy. The Garda witness alleged that a subsequent forensic examination of the VW car had resulted in the discovery of human DNA on the car's driver-side airbag, which he alleged was a match for Mr Blackhall's DNA. Garda Murphy told the court that further more serious charges were anticipated against Mr Blackhall in respect of the shooting investigation. Garda Murphy said he was objecting to bail due to the 'seriousness of the charges, and the strength and nature of the evidence'. Shane Blackhall News in 90 Seconds - June 18th Garda Murphy alleged in court: 'The accused was actively involved in an ongoing feud on the south side of Limerick City at the time of his arrest and the commission of the offences for which he is currently charged with.' 'Gardai believe these offences were committed as part of this feud and the accused was one of the main instigators of same.' 'I believe that if he (Mr Blackhall) is granted bail, the accused will again become involved in this feud and will pose a serious and active threat to homeowners and members of the public.' Garda Murphy said serious weaponry had been used in the feud and that gardai were concerned about a safety risk to the general public. Answering Mr Blackhall's solicitor, Sarah Ryan, who stated the accused would abide by whatever bail conditions the court decided, Garda Murphy stated: 'I do not believe that there are any bail conditions which would be applied that could prevent further similar crimes by the accused.' 'It is my belief that, if granted bail, there will be further serious offences committed by the accused, up to the risk of further property been damaged, including loss of (life) and serious injury.' Judge Patricia Harney said she believed Det Gda Murphy's evidence was 'well founded' and 'should be accepted', and she refused bail. The judge remanded Mr Blackhall in custody to appear before Limerick District Court again on June 24th for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
