ECoR shifts PRS & UTS of Bhubaneswar Station to new building

Bhubaneswar, June 17 (UNI) As part of the ongoing redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station to world-class standards, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has initiated steps to improve passenger convenience and infrastructure.
The Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) counters, which were previously operating from a temporary shed, have now been shifted to the newly constructed station building on a temporary basis.
According to ECoR sources, this arrangement ensures the uninterrupted availability of ticketing services while allowing construction work at the shed site to continue smoothly.
The redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station is being undertaken under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
To further ease passenger movement, a newly constructed approach road from the Town Bus Stand/Temple side has been opened, providing better connectivity and hassle-free access to the station.
A major milestone in this redevelopment effort is the opening of direct access to Platform No 1 through a newly built ground-level departure concourse, which is expected to reduce congestion and significantly improve passenger flow.
The relocated PRS/UTS and enquiry counters at the under-construction station building offer more space and improved ease of movement for passengers, ECoR sources said.

GST rationalisation impact on inflation depends on the effect on CPI components: Bank of Baroda Economist

Chennai, Aug 16 (UNI) The impact of the proposed rationalisation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on inflation would depend on the effect on the consumer price index (CPI) components, said a top economist at Bank of Baroda. He also said the impact on investment will be driven by the final effect on consumption. If consumption increases, it can spur more investment in specific products. The Indian government has announced the idea of having two major GST slabs viz., 5% (merit) and 18% (standard). 'The highest slab of 28% would be abolished and all goods and services in this bracket moved to the 18% rate. 99% of goods in the 12% rate will move to 5%. The balance 1% would go to 18%. The existing 40% rate would hold for tobacco and other sin goods. The exempted and special rates of 0.25% and 3% rate goods would remain unchanged,' Madan Sabnavis, Chief Economist said. 'The impact on inflation would depend on how various components of the CPI index are impacted by the new rates. While it has been projected as lowering the tax burden there can be a tendency for inflation to come down. But the extent will depend on the individual tax rates,' Sabnavis said. However, at the micro level, any reduction in GST as it is expected for goods like hair oil, toothbrush, pencils and others may not exactly increase consumption but will release resources of households that can be spent on other products and services. 'Impact on investment will be driven by the final effect on consumption. If consumption increases, it can spur more investment in specific products,' Sabnavis remarked. Having fewer slabs certainly makes the system simpler and leads to better compliance and removal of ambiguity. But it needs to be seen whether or not the final effect is tax neutral. If movement of goods across slabs provides a net gain on the fiscal side, then it would not change much from the consumption point of view, he said. 'On the whole it has been projected to provide support to consumption which is positive for the consumer goods segments. The ultimate impact has to be gauged from the point of view of fiscal impact given that any restructuring has to be a zero-sum game – if the consumer is to gain, there has to be some let off on the budget. This however, can get corrected once the economy grows at a faster rate in the coming years,' Sabnavis said. The GST Council is to meet in Sept-Oct and deliberate on this proposal. The compensation cess is to be phased out and it is possible that goods and services with 40% slab would take in this effect. UNI VJ GNK

UER-II will contribute to 'Viksit Delhi,' reduce traffic & enhance connectivity: CM

New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has described the much awaited Urban Extension Road-II project as a 'historic gift' for the city, and said that its commencement will not only move the national capital closer to becoming a traffic-free city, but will also strengthen connectivity across the NCR. CM has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the efforts and development of the national capital. Gupta along with senior officials and party leaders on Saturday visited the site for the inauguration of UER- II and its surroundings to review the preparations and issued necessary instructions ahead of its launch. She added that the corridor will play a vital role in reducing congestion, lowering vehicular pollution and thereby contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment. Gupta mentioned, 'UER-II is not just an infrastructure project; it is an investment in the future of Delhi. It will improve traffic flow, cut travel time drastically, and uplift the quality of life for lakhs of people living in Delhi and NCR.' CM also informed that the PM will formally inaugurate UER-II on Sunday and will also be part of a road show. Gupta said that the corridor will begin at National Highway-44 (Alipur), traverse through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh and Dwarka, and terminate at National Highway-48 near Mahipalpur. Highlighting its utility, she said that one of the most significant advantages of UER-II is the reduction in travel time from Singhu Border to IGI Airport, which will now take just 40 minutes, compared to almost two hours earlier. She added that the pressure on Inner and Outer Ring Roads will be substantially reduced, while major junctions such as Mukarba Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Peeragarhi Chowk, Dhaula Kuan and NH-9 will no longer face heavy congestion with UER-II's commencement. She added that the improved connectivity with the project will also expand industrial and logistics opportunities in the national capital. The route will also integrate with the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway, the KMP Expressway, the Gurugram-Rewari Highway, and the Gurugram-Sohna Highway. UNI APS GNK
