Gwyneth Paltrow Slams Her Hit-And-Run Ski Trial As ‘Everything Wrong With Our Legal System'

Yahoo01-05-2025

Actor and wellness guru Gwyneth Paltrow bashed her 2023 civil court case in which she and a retired Army optometrist both accused each other of being at fault for a 2016 hit-and-run ski accident.
'I have to say, the idea that someone could ski into your back and knock you down and then sue you, I was like, 'This is everything that's wrong with our legal system,'' Paltrow said on last week's episode of 'The World's First Podcast.'
Paltrow was initially sued by Terry Sanderson in 2019 for $3 million after he said she crashed into him at Deer Valley Resort in Utah. The amount was reduced to more than $300,000 leading up to the trial.
Sanderson testified in court that the accident caused him to break four ribs and that he sustained permanent brain injuries. Paltrow, on the other hand, said he was the one who crashed into her, and that at first she thought she was being sexually assaulted.
The Oscar winner countersued Sanderson for a symbolic $1, which he ultimately had to pay, along with her legal bills, after the jury found she was not liable for the accident.
Paltrow told People in 2023 that she was 'pleased with the outcome' and 'felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity.'
Paltrow told 'World's First Podcast' hosts Erin and Sara Foster that the case itself was 'ridiculous.'
'That's why I felt like I had to fight it. I was like, 'I'm not going to be shaken down here.' I'm not doing that,' Paltrow said.
The trial gained national attention, but viewers on social media mainly gawked over the Goop founder's attitude in court and what she was wearing during the hearings.
'All the silver lining was the court looks,' Sara Foster said. 'It was everything.'

How Meghan Markle's Perspective on Royal Family Rift Is Different From Prince Harry's

Prince Harry has been open about the continuing rift between himself and other members of the British royal family, including his father, King Charles, and older brother, Prince William. Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, moved to California in 2020 and issues over visiting the U.K. have arisen in relation to security concerns. This week, a source tells People that the couple has different perspectives on how to move forward. 'They're aware of everything going on in England, but they're being left out of the details—there's clearly no trust,' said the insider, adding that Meghan is 'focused on the future,' and 'is very business about it.' She remains firmly supportive of her husband, however, despite his own tendency to dwell on the widening gulf. But the Duchess of Sussex 'wishes her husband could feel less burdened by the past and more present in the life they've built together.' Charles has been receiving regular cancer treatments and is allegedly struggling with the idea of reconciliation. 'It's been difficult for him to even get proper updates about his dad,' the source explained. Harry has been requesting for years to have automatic police protection applied to his entire family so they can visit the country again, a privilege applied to working members of the royal family. They lost their appeal on the matter in April of this year. Charles and William's hesitation towards reconciliation is supposedly about 'trust' and the belief that heir interactions with the Sussexes may not remain private. The couple has shared intimate details of their lives in their popular Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan and in Harry's memoir Spare, as well as a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. In a 2023 interview with The Daily Telegraph, Harry admitted he actually removed anecdotes from Spare after considering how it might divide him from his father and brother. 'The first draft was different,' he said. 'It was 800 pages, and now it's down to 400 pages. It could have been two books, put it that way. And the hard bit was taking things out.' And there were some things he didn't 'want the world to know.' 'I don't think they would ever forgive me,' Harry added. 'This is not about trying to collapse the monarchy, this is about trying to save them from themselves.' 46-Year-Old Woman Says She's Always Yearned to Be a Mom - But Is Unsure If She's Too Old to Have a Baby

A 46-year-old woman who always wanted to be a mom is wondering if she's too old to try for her first baby The woman said she assumed the parenting ship "had sailed" for her — until she met her 'absolute soulmate' The woman shared her story on a community forum, and opinions are mixed on what she should doA 46-year-old woman who had 'accepted' that she would never be a mom is now wondering if she should go for it — and people on the Internet have mixed opinions. The woman detailed her experience on the 'Am I Being Unreasonable?' forum on the U.K.-based site Mumsnet, a place where women can go to seek input and advice from other women. In her post, titled, 'Is 46 too old for a baby?' the woman said she had always wanted to be a mother, but she figured 'that ship had sailed' as she had 'never met the right person.' The woman went on to explain that she ended up 'totally unexpectedly' meeting her 'absolute soulmate' — who is a 'couple of years younger' than her. They recently discussed potentially having children, but she 'mostly brushed it off' due to her age. Now, however, the original poster (OP) revealed she is potentially starting to consider it. The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! 'We are financially stable, have good jobs, homes etc. I guess that comes with being older,' she said, before asking, 'But is it too risky? Is it unkind [to] the child? Is society just too prejudiced?" 'I am very torn,' she admitted at the end of her post. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. The OP's comments sparked much debate among her fellow community members. Some said they thought she should absolutely try to fulfill her dream of becoming a mom. 'I would go for it. I had my first at 44 and it's wonderful,' one person said before adding, 'I'd also say that longevity isn't promised to any of us, and people lose parents at very early ages. So go for it!! Good luck.' 'I've probably got a skewed view of it as [my husband] and I had babies at a 'sensible age' and then [my husband] died when he was 47. A lot of people live to their 80s, so you may have a lot longer with your kids than my kids had with their dad!' said someone else. Others, however, said they thought the OP should seriously consider the practical realities of trying for a baby and potentially parenting at a later stage of life. 'I'd say try, but do prepare yourself for it not to work. I got pregnant at 46 naturally, but lost the baby at nine weeks, and the sheer hormonal kerfuffle sent me into premenopause and caused me a few problems,' one person said. 'I had [my son] at 38, and it's a push to be as active as I'd like nine years on. If you're exceptionally fit and active, then maybe, but otherwise I don't think it's wise,' said someone else.
