EXCLUSIVE Why Michelle Phillips is OK with neighbor who rummages through her trash and takes her mail

Daily Mail6 hours ago

It looked like every homeowner's worst nightmare: a man rummaging through trash cans and swiping a packet of papers.
And for Mamas and Papas legend Michelle Phillips, 81, that was briefly the reality when the man swooped in shortly after she wheeled her garbage to the curb outside her Los Angeles home.
But DailyMail.com can reveal the seemingly sinister situation was actually nothing of the sort with Phillips saying the man is a neighbor on the hunt for discarded copies of the New York Times.
'He's perfectly harmless,' the singer told a Daily Mail reporter who showed her a photo of the man outside her home.
'It's nothing to worry about and I've known him since he was a teenager. He's very nice, and he was going through my trash to find my newspapers because he wants to read the New York Times.
Thank you for checking – that's what neighbors are for,' Michelle added.
But there may be more to the man's trash run than Michelle knows. He was clearly seen stuffing letters from her garbage into his back pockets before walking away.
Shortly after her neighbor took off, Phillips clad in black pants, a black sweater layered under a Japanese-inspired red and blue kimono and oversized black sunglasses, was seen heading out to run errands.
The incident marked Phillips's first public sighting since the death of Beach Boys icon Brian Wilson - a longtime acquaintance. Her daughter Chynna, 57, formed the successful 90s pop trio Wilson Phillips with Brian's daughters, Carnie and Wendy.
Phillips gave birth to Chynna during her tumultuous marriage to The Mamas & The Papas' founder and chief songwriter, John Phillips.
Their union – riddled with infidelity, substance abuse and the crushing weight of fame – lasted past the band's three-year career before ending in divorce in 1969.
She is also the stepmother to actress Mackenzie Phillips, 66, and model Bijou Phillips, 45, through her late ex-husband's other relationships.

John, who died in 2001 at age 65, notoriously had an affair with Cass Elliot, the group's other female vocalist, fueling deep tensions within the band.
Phillips, meanwhile, had her own controversial affairs - including with bandmate Denny Doherty and director Roman Polanski, the latter while his partner Sharon Tate was pregnant with his child.
But although their relationship was marred with controversy, she still defended her late ex-husband's character in 2009 when allegations emerged of incest made by her stepdaughter Mackenzie.
At the time, her other stepdaughter Bijou said she knew her half-sister Mackenzie had a consensual sexual relationship with their father.
Bijou, who was married to convicted rapist Danny Masterton till she filed for divorce in 2023, claimed she was 13 years old when Mackenzie told her about the relationship, calling the news 'confusing and scary'.
Bijou added that it was 'heartbreaking' to think her family knew about the incest and still left her alone with her father.
The band, which shot to stardom with hits 'California Dreamin',' 'Monday, Monday,' and 'Dedicated to the One I Love,' split in 1968 just three years after achieving mainstream success and winning a Grammy in 1967 for Best Contemporary (R&R) Group Performance, Vocal or Instrumental.
Phillips still found success after the band split through acting where she starred alongside celebrities such as Martin Sheen, Audrey Hepburn and Sharon Stone.
The singer-turned-actress was later cast in a biographical gangster film Dillinger in 1973 - which garnered her a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer.
She also took on roles in films including Valentino (1977), The Covenant (1985) and Scissors (1991).
Phillips additionally branched out to the world of television and starred in the series titled Knots Landing (1987-1993).
Later in her career, she had guest roles in beloved shows such as Beverly Hills, 90210 and The Love Boat.
At the height of her fame, Phillips had a whirlwind marriage to actor Dennis Hopper that lasted just eight days, as well as high-profile romances with Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty.
She divorced her third husband, radio producer John Burch, in 1979 after one year.

Iconic 2000s rock singer says Trump supporters are NOT welcome at his tour

Rock singer Ronnie Winter, who fronts the popular early 2000s band Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, warned his fans that if they voted for Donald Trump, they weren't welcome at their shows. Winter referenced posts he made in 2020 promoting a ' woke ' agenda, telling his fans, 'the thing about being woke is you're awake, and once you're awake you can never go to sleep.' The rock star stood by his stance and issued a bold message to Trump supporters: 'In case somehow you missed it - Hi, my name is Ronnie Winter, I sing for the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and I actually follow what Jesus says.' He went on to say that Christians who voted for Trump should be ashamed and added that they weren't allowed at his shows. 'I don't want you there. Don't come to my shows,' he added. Winter said it was 'awesome' that people loved the band's hit song, Face Down, but that it wasn't for anyone who supported the president. 'If you voted for Donald Trump, do not come to my shows or ever, not just these four years,' he continued. 'Don't come to my shows because you're going to hear a lot of woke propaganda, and you're going to hear the actual words of Jesus.' 'You're going to see a lot of acceptance from all areas of life and races, and you're just going to see a lot of harmony. That's not what you're about. Don't come,' he proclaimed. Winter said that refunds would be available to Trump supporters who purchased tickets to the show. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is touring this summer and fall with shows across the US. They're also set to perform at multiple festivals, including All Your Friends Fest, When We Were Young, and Warped Tour. Winter has been an outspoken critic of Trump and was vocal during the pandemic about wearing masks and isolating. Comments were disabled on his post, but social media users sounded off on Winter's remarks in a Reddit thread. '"I follow what Jesus actually says." Then follows it up with "if you voted for Trump don't come to my shows." Jesus loved everyone. Broke bread with sinners,' one comment read. 'What a great way to lose people who just want to hear music and get away from politics,' another criticized. 'Wouldn't he want Trump supporters at his show so they can see what acceptance is like? Also is it weird that someone who is all about inclusion and acceptance won't accept a group of people at his shows?' a third wrote. However, many praised Winter's brash comments, with one writing, 'I don't know who this guy is or his music (this came up as recommended to me) but I'll give him a listen just based on this.' 'Legend. Gotta love that dude,' a second agreed. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus rose to fame in the early 2000s with rock hits like Face Down, Your Guardian Angel, and False Pretense. Winter is the lead singer alongside guitarists Josh Burke, Randy Winter, and drummer John Espy.

EXCLUSIVE Anne Burrell's friend breaks silence on 'shock and sudden' death... claiming chef was in 'decent shape'

Anne Burrell appeared to be in 'decent shape' days before she was found in her Brooklyn apartment on Tuesday, according to a friend who saw her a week prior. The well-known TV chef was found 'unconscious and unresponsive' when law enforcement responded to a call 7.50 am on June 17. The New York Fire Department confirmed to Daily Mail that they were responding to a report of a cardiac arrest. Her cause of death is still being investigated by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner. At 55 years old, chef Elizabeth Falkner claimed that her friend was in 'pretty decent shape' when she last saw her on June 9 at dinner in New York City. In an exclusive interview with Daily Mail, Falkner, 59, revealed, 'I think Anne looks like she's in pretty decent shape these days, so it's kind of surprising to me.' Not being able to comment specifically on any health issues, if any, she might've battled before her death, she did find her passing 'so sudden and shocking.' 'I know it is very personal to me what happened, and I can't believe somebody even younger than me has just passed away. It's close to home for all of us,' she said. 'The culinary family is like family, so this hurts a lot of us. We just all feel it.' The shock comes from seeing her a few days ago at an intimate dinner she hosted - which she of course was the chef for the 'fun night' - at Soho House on June 9. 'I've seen [her] over all these years, not just on television competitions and shows, but at different parties and events and stuff, and we've always been friendly. 'But just in the last month we've been texting. I said, "Come to my dinner at Soho House, it'll be great to see you." And she brought her husband and we just had such a good time,' she shared about how the famous chefs reconnected. 'It was just so sweet. So this is just really so sudden and shocking.' Burrell even texted her the following day on June 10 to let her know that she and her husband, Stuart Claxton, had a great time. 'She's like, "Thanks so much for inviting us. It was a truly lovely time and very delicious. Please send me some pics so I can post." Falkner paid tribute to Anne on her Instagram after hearing about the shocking news 'And I said, "It was so great to see you, Anne."' The pals even made a pact to 'talk more often.' 'We were like, "Let's just make a point of talking and texting more often,"' Falkner shared, while noting that she is 'very grateful' to have had a special night with the beloved chef and other guests last week. 'I'm just bummed. I feel like [our friendship] just got cut really short fast,' she added. The Worst Cooks in America alum spoke highly about being a mother. 'When she came to the dinner at Soho House, she said that she was very much enjoying being a stepmother,' Falkner said, referring to the star's stepson Javier, 20. 'And her husband's so sweet. She just seemed to be in such a good place. That's the best way for me to describe it. Because being a chef and being a television personality is two major full-time jobs, but enjoying your life outside of that can be challenging. And I think she was definitely enjoying her life outside of that whole world of the networks and all that stuff.' Burrell spoke exclusively with Daily Mail back in April about marital bliss. Her and Stuart got married in 2021 after meeting on a dating app in 2018. 'October will be four years,' she said at the City Harvest gala. 'It seems like it's been four minutes. I don't know if it's a honeymoon [phase], but I feel like it's settled into married life days which I really enjoy.' Falkner told Daily Mail, 'I'm just bummed. I feel like [our friendship] just got cut really short fast' (pictured is an exclusive photo of Falkner with her pal at Burrell's former Brooklyn restaurant, Phil And Anne's Good Time Lounge, shared with Daily Mail) Falkner, who appeared on cooking shows like Iron Chef and Top Chef, recalled meeting Burrell's husband before they got married in 2021. 'I randomly saw her in Rome outside of a restaurant, and I was like, "Oh my God, that's Anne Burrell walking by!" And we said hey and stuff,' Falkner revealed, noting that she and Stuart were on a 'pre-wedding trip.' Describing her passing 'really unfortunate,' 'so sad,' 'unexpected' and even 'tragic,' Falkner believes Burrell's death is a huge loss to the restaurant community since everyone involved is 'another kind of family.' Falkner, herself, said that being a chef is a 'highly stressful job,' but it was something that Burrell mastered throughout her career. 'The thing about Anne Burrell is she wasn't only a TV chef, she was a really good, really good cook, really good chef. She educated a lot of people,' the James Beard Foundation's board of trustees member told Daily Mail. 'I don't even know how she had the patience to do Worst Cooks in America, because I think that would be a challenging show to do patience wise. But she was the real deal. She could cook a lot. She had mad skills. It was always fun watching her cook. I told her I loved watching her on House of Knives.' She added, 'She's one of those people that's kind of intimidating and certainly hardcore as chefs can be. I mean, you kind of have to be that way. It's the only way to teach people how to deal with ingredients and not to mess it up all the time. But she was definitely very sweet... She had a certain kind of sparkle.'

Listen to Diddy trial audio of Cassie threatening to kill man over freak-off video leak

Audio of a distraught Cassie Ventura threatening to kill a man over a 'freak-off' video was released today as part of the evidence in Diddy 's trial. The newly-released audio was played by the disgraced mogul's lawyers during their cross-examination of Cassie last month, but has only now become public after being uploaded into the evidence files. Th defense used the audio in an attempt to prove that Cassie was an enthusiastic participant in the marathon sex sessions with escorts. 'It's my f***ing life and I'll kill you,' Cassie told the unidentified man, who had apparently claimed to have seen a video of a freak off in 2014. 'If you don't show me right now I will kill you, and I will hide you and I will cut you up and put you in the f***ing dirt.' Cassie added that if the man did not show her the footage, 'I'm gonna kill you and then [Diddy's] gonna kill you again.' The singer appeared to become angrier before she kicked others out of the room and slammed a door shut as she continued berating the man. 'I've never killed anybody in my life, but I will kill you,' Cassie said. 'It's not going to be blood on my hands. Someone else is going to do it.' Cassie then pointed out that she was recording the conversation. The audio was played by the disgraced mogul's lawyers they tried to prove that Cassie was an enthusiastic participant in the marathon sex sessions with escorts Throughout the clip she called the man 'her brother.' Cassie said during her testimony that Diddy had told her 'not to let the man out of her sight.' During cross-examination last month, Cassie told the court that she confronted the man because she 'felt sick' about the possibility of the sex tape being released. 'I felt like I had to handle the situation,' she said, adding that it was Diddy telling her what to do. Cassie told the jury in harrowing testimony that she continued participating in the sex sessions because Diddy often threatened her with releasing the tapes. The freak off videos are at the center of the sex-trafficking and racketeering case against Diddy. It was not until six weeks into the trial that the jury finally got a look at them. On Monday the trial got a glimpse at some of the freak-off sex marathons, with prosecutors showing excerpts of explicit videos that the hip-hop mogul recorded during the drug-fueled sessions. Prosecutors played portions of three sex videos recovered from a Diddy-linked account on a cellphone that Cassie provided to authorities, giving jurors a close-up view of the encounters they've heard about repeatedly since testimony began May 12. Because of their graphic nature, the excerpts were available for viewing only for jurors, the prosecution and defense teams and Diddy all of whom wore headphones to hear the audio portion. Reporters and members of the public were not allowed to see or hear the videos. Diddy, 55, has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges after his September arrest at a New York hotel.
