Riyan Parag blamed for Sanju Samson's likely breakup with Rajasthan Royals: 'He is the reason'

Former India batter Subramaniam Badrinath believes Riyan Parag is the main reason behind Sanju Samson potentially asking the Rajasthan Royals to release him ahead of the IPL 2026 season. According to several reports, the Rajasthan skipper has asked the franchise to release him ahead of the next edition of the tournament. However, a final call is yet to be taken by the management and head coach Rahul Dravid. Sanju Samson has reportedly told Rajasthan Royals to release him. (PTI)
In the IPL 2025 season, Samson played as an impact sub in the initial few matches after he wasn't given the clearance for wicketkeeping by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). When Samson played just as a batter, it was Riyan Parag who did the captaincy.
When Samson returned as a full-time captain, he once again got injured by suffering a side strain against the Delhi Capitals. When he was ruled out, Parag once again filled in as the captain. Amid this captaincy saga, there were reports of a rumoured rift between head coach Dravid and Samson. However, the former denied all speculations midway through the season.
Samson's absence also paved the way for the franchise to give a chance to the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The youngster grabbed the opportunity with both hands, smashing the fastest century by an Indian in the tournament.

With the opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryavanshi all but settled, there is no clarity over Samson's position, and hence, this is what might have prompted Samson to think about moving away from the Royals.
'I feel Riyan Parag is the reason. If you consider him for captaincy, how do you expect someone like Samson to stay?," said Badrinath on his YouTube channel.
Samson moving to CSK?
Rumours are rife that Sanju Samson will move to Chennai Super Kings after the five-time champions expressed their desire to acquire the wicketkeeper-batter.
Badrinath believes Samson is the right fit to replace MS Dhoni at the franchise. However, he pointed out that the right-handed batter might not be able to bat lower down the order for CSK.
'If Sanju Samson does come to CSK, then he could be the like-for-like replacement for MS Dhoni. Samson is a batter who can bat in the top three or four spots in the batting order. He is not someone who could fit in the number five or six spot in the playing XI. CSK are strong in those areas of the playing XI. Mhatre is settled, Gaikwad is settled, Brevis is settled," he said.
'I am not sure if CSK would do a transaction like MI did to get Hardik Pandya from GT. So even if Sanju Samson comes in, the question remains whether CSK can fit him into the playing XI," he added.

‘Real f***** deal': Dale Steyn hails Dewald Brevis after T20I century in Australia, AB de Villiers lauds CSK ‘masterstroke'

The coming of age 'Baby AB' Dewald Brevis with a jaw-dropping T20I hundred against Australia on Tuesday drew lavish praise from South Africa stalwarts AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn. The 22-year-old Brevis burst on the scene as a teenaged prodigy and even made his first IPL appearance as early as the 2022 season with the Mumbai Indians. However, it took a stunning injury replacement coup from Chennai Super Kings and a prolific SA20 tournament this year to announce his true arrival, and a rollicking 41-ball century in international colours exemplified Brevis' potential. 'Brevis is the real f***** deal,' Steyn wrote on X after Brevis plundered an unbeaten 125 off 56 balls, his innings laced with 12 fours and eight sixes. Powering the Proteas to 218 for six, the knock ensured South Africa levelled the series 1-1. Missed out badly. CSK either got very lucky, or maybe the biggest master stroke ever. The boy can play,' wrote de Villiers on X. To think that he came in as an injury sub,' he added. Signed up as an injury replacement for INR 2.2 Crore, Brevis lit up the second half of CSK's 2025 IPL season, scoring 225 runs in six innings at a 180.00 strike rate. 'I haven't thought about it to be honest (on having the highest score for South Africa in T20Is). Really grateful and thankful to god for winning tonight. We want to win and to come back stronger after the first game,' said Brevis after the innings. 'Everyone played a part, and we took our catches. They are great players and they hit the ball hard and over the ropes, we have to be on it in this format. We played well today, so it's great,' he added.

Image: Reuters MS Dhoni's Rs 100 crore defamation case filed by him in 2014 is set to go for trial after a Madras High Court order on Monday. The former India captain Dhoni will soon be required to record his statement. The Madras High Court's Justice CV Karthikeyan has also appointed an advocate commissioner for Dhoni's personal appearance in the court, as his presence in the Court could lead to chaos due to his celebrity status. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The defamation case was filed by Dhoni in 2014 when he was still the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He captained CSK last season as well, but as a replacement for the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad. Why did Dhoni file defamation case? In the defamation case, Dhoni had sought damages of Rs 100 crore from the defendants. The case was filed against Zee Media Corporation, journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer G Sampath Kumar and News Nation Network. It was filed for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Dhoni about the 2013 Indian Premier League betting case. As a result of the betting scandal, CSK was suspended from the IPL for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. CSK owner N Srinivasan's son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, was also arrested in connection with the betting scandal, but he was later found 'not guilty' by the Mumbai police. Why was the trial delayed by 11 years? As per The Hindu, the trial in Dhoni's defamation case got delayed over 10 years due to 'multiple applications taken out by the parties seeking one relief or another.' The report further added that Dhoni will be available for examination and cross-examination between 20 October and 10 December 2025. 'The above request is made with the intent to avoid any undue delay (in disposal of the suit pending in the High Court for over a decade) and to support the fair, just, and speedy adjudication of the suit. I state that I shall extend my full co-operation with the Advocate Commissioner and comply with all directions issued by this honourable court regarding the trial and the recording of evidence,' Dhoni's affidavit read.

Indian dressing room turned to Lord Shiva, listened to 16th-century Stuti in Oval Test when mood dipped; result followed

In an age dominated by analytics, tactics, and high-performance science, the Indian cricket team found strength in an age-old devotional chant during their dramatic series-levelling win over England at The Oval. The Shri Shiva Rudrashtakam Stuti echoed in the Indian dressing room in all five days of the series finale. India's captain Shubman Gill, with teammates, celebrates following India's win in the fifth Test match against England at The Oval(PTI) With the five-match series on the line and India trailing 1-2, pressure was at its peak. A victory was the only way to draw the series. But when the top order crumbled early in the first innings, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul back in the pavilion at just 38 for 2, the mood in the dressing room dipped. That's when Raghavendra, the team's veteran throwdown specialist, known as Raghu, decided to take a different approach. According to a report in Dainik Jagran, he quietly played the Shri Shiva Rudrashtakam on the dressing room speaker system. What started as a moment of calm in the midst of pressure soon turned into a daily tradition. A Chant That Echoed Through the Test From day one to day five, the Rudrashtakam became the background score in India's inner sanctum. Players, support staff, and coaches found unexpected comfort in the rhythm and intensity of the hymn. 'It wasn't something we planned,' said one touring squad member. 'But once it started, it became part of our environment. It brought this strange mix of peace and energy.' Another player shared, 'We often play music before or after sessions. It could be something upbeat or devotional, even the Hanuman Chalisa during practice. But five straight days of Rudrashtakam in a high-stakes Test was something new. I won't say we won just because of it, but there was definitely an energy boost.' The Significance of the Rudrashtakam Composed by Tulsidas in the 16th century, the Shri Shiva Rudrashtakam is a Sanskrit hymn praising Lord Shiva. It is traditionally recited for spiritual strength, focus, and protection from negative influences. According to popular belief, reciting the Rudrashtakam with devotion for seven consecutive days can help eliminate major obstacles and enemies. It is said that Lord Rama recited this stuti at Rameswaram before his final battle with Ravana, seeking Shiva's blessings for victory. This blend of spirituality and tradition struck a chord with the Indian squad, many of whom continued listening to the hymn even after the match ended. Turning Point in the Series Heading into the Oval Test, India had already experienced an up-and-down series. They lost the first Test at Leeds by five wickets, then bounced back with a dominant 336-run win in Birmingham. England regained control with a narrow 22-run victory at Lord's, before the fourth Test in Manchester ended in a draw. The fifth Test, played in London, became a do-or-die fixture. India started poorly but staged a remarkable comeback. With consistent performances across all five days, they edged out England by six runs in a thrilling finish to level the series 2-2. As the match progressed, the Rudrashtakam continued to echo in the dressing room. It became more than just a chant — it became part of the team's emotional backbone during a tense battle. A Legacy Beyond the Match Even after the final ball was bowled and the series drawn, the Rudrashtakam's presence didn't fade. The report added that some players are now play it in their cars or during personal routines. 'Raghu made a great call playing it in the dressing room,' a team member said. 'It not only helped lift spirits but also created a kind of invisible bond in the group. It reminded us to stay grounded and focused.'
