E Ink and MediaTek Donate 58 eReaders to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana
The eRead for the future initiative focuses on delivering cutting edge technology that promotes reading for kids
BILLERICA, Mass., May 19, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- E Ink (8069.TW), the originator, pioneer, and global commercial leader in ePaper technology, announced today its collaborative donation with MediaTek to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana as part of E Ink's eRead for the Future program. E Ink and MediaTek are donating 58 Amazon Kindle Kids eReaders—each Kindle Kids device features an E Ink ePaper display for a comfortable, paper-like reading experience and is powered by MediaTek's advanced chipset technology.
'The donation from E Ink and MediaTek will have a meaningful impact on the children,' said Brandon Smith, Clubs Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana. 'Access to books and educational tools is crucial for our Club kids' development, and these Kindle devices open up a world of opportunities for their learning.'
During the upcoming summer, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana is running a Summer Reading program to combat reading skill loss during the summer. These Kindle Kids will be used to support this program.
A study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health found that E Ink's ePaper screens with a ComfortGaze front light are up to three times healthier for eyes than LCD screens. As distraction and blue light dominate modern devices, paper-like E Ink screens provide a healthier screen time option. Blue light from LED and fluorescent lighting, as well as monitors, tablets, and mobile devices, can negatively affect vision over the long term, according to the American Optometric Association. Unlike traditional LCD screens, ePaper screens are non-emissive, meaning they rely on ambient light for viewing. Devices like the Amazon Kindle can help families minimize the blue-light hazard and enable more focused reading and learning.
'This collaboration with E Ink and the Boys & Girls Clubs is a wonderful opportunity to share our passion for technology with future generations,' said Jerry Yu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek. 'These Kindles are valuable tools that ensure our youth have access to more important resources to empower deeper learning.'
'Our partnership with MediaTek and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Louisiana is steeped in helping inspire a lifelong love of reading,' said Lynne Garone, Associate Vice President of Corporate Learning and Social Responsibility at E Ink Corporation. 'Our ePaper technology is designed to make reading more enjoyable and accessible for kids everywhere.'
To expand on eRead for the Future program in 2025, this eReader donation reflects E Ink and MediaTek's ongoing commitment to supporting communities and creating opportunities for children through technology and education. The devices come bundled with a 6-month subscription to Amazon Kids+, giving the young readers unlimited access to thousands of children's books, with a part of the donation being reserved for a permanent book collection.
In 2024, E Ink engaged over 22 partners across the ePaper ecosystem to participate in the social good initiative, eRead for the Future, that focuses on delivering technology that elevates students' reading abilities. Through last year's collaboration, E Ink donated 1,024 color eReaders, benefiting over 15,000 students across 40 elementary schools. The total donation value was nearly USD 1 million and saved 777 metric tons of carbon from reading digital, nonprinted, books. For context, if 160 million eReaders worldwide download 50 eBooks each over a five-year period, this totals 8 billion eBooks. In comparison, if all these books were read in paper form, it would equate to nearly 60 million tons of CO2e.

Nvidia's Arm-powered gaming laptop could launch later this year with Alienware
Nvidia's Arm-based PC chip could make its debut in Alienware's laptops later this year or in early 2026, according to a report from the Taiwanese publication United Daily News. The chipmaking giant is reportedly working with MediaTek to develop an accelerated processing unit (APU) that combines an Arm-powered CPU with Nvidia's Blackwell GPU architecture. Nvidia is already popular in traditional gaming laptops using Intel or AMD chips, but an Arm CPU entry may well improve the Windows on Arm gaming situation. Qualcomm's Snapdragon X chips have to run games emulated using Microsoft's Prism software, and game compatibility and performance is severely limited on Qualcomm's GPUs right now. We first heard rumors about Nvidia's Arm-based chip in 2023, which could serve as yet another competitor to Intel's chips and the Arm processors built by Qualcomm. Last week, a video from YouTuber Moore's Law is Dead showed off what appears to be a leaked image of Nvidia's rumored APU, with sources suggesting it could run between 80W and 120W. In January, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said during an investor's presentation that the company has 'plans' for the Arm-based CPU installed inside Digits, its personal AI supercomputer, Reuters reported at the time. Dell CEO Michael Dell also hinted at the possibility of launching an AI PC with Nvidia, as he replied, 'come back next year' when asked about Nvidia's presence in the AI PC market during an interview in 2024. Nvidia isn't the only company that could challenge Qualcomm's dominance in the Arm-based CPU space. MediaTek is also rumored to be working on an Arm chip of its own, while recent reports also suggest AMD is developing an Arm-based chip for Microsoft Surface laptops.

Nvidia's rumored gaming laptop APU could match RTX 4070 performance — here's what we know
Nvidia and MediaTek have been rumored to be developing a new APU, and now it looks to shake up the gaming laptop market thanks to a recent report teasing its performance. According to Taiwanese outlet UDN, Nvidia and MediaTek's joint development of its rumored APU (integrating CPU and GPU chips) for gaming laptops will deliver the same performance of an RTX 4070-equipped laptop, but with far better energy efficiency. The rumor suggests the Nvidia APU will only use 65W power to match the performance of a 120W RTX 4070 gaming laptop, with the Arm-based chip tipped to incorporate a Blackwell-based GPU — what we've seen in the latest RTX 50-series graphics cards. There's no word on what GPU it will be based on, with previous claims indicating it would use a smaller GB10 Blackwell chip for laptops. However, there's reason to believe it could use a GB206 model, similar to the RTX 5060 Ti or RTX 5060. As per the report, Dell's gaming brand Alienware will be among the first to launch new gaming laptops featuring the APU. That means we could see fresh Alienware notebooks that are slimmer and offer better battery life, if rumors about Nvidia and MediaTek's chip are accurate. The new APU is expected to launch in late 2025 or early 2026, which suggests it could be announced during CES 2026. Originally, the chip was tipped for a reveal during Computex 2025, but now it appears we'll get a closer look further down the line. Moreover, another rumor from Moore's Law is Dead (via Notebookcheck) revealed Nvidia's APU for gaming laptops, with this leak suggesting the chip would offer a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 80W to 120W. However, it also points to a late 2025/early 2026 release. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Nvidia and MediaTek's Arm-based chip already looks set to bolster ultraportable gaming laptops (and possibly PC gaming handhelds) with better power efficiency, which hopefully translates to greater battery life in gaming notebooks. We've seen Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Series offers major battery and performance boosts, and even how a Snapdragon X Elite-powered laptop can play games — including GTA V. With Nvidia's own chip sporting its GPU tech, however, gaming on APUs could see major performance gains. It already looks to have some competition, with AMD Strix Halo APU delivering close to RTX 4060 desktop GPU power in benchmarks and Qualcomm expected to deliver its next-gen Snapdragon X2 Series chips later this year. For now, we'll have to wait and see how Nvidia's chip measures up if it ends up launching later this year. In the meantime, check out what the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme delivers in our hands-on with the MSI Claw A8.
