Emma Raducanu sent the most incredible request by tennis hero who begs star to rid herself of unwanted rep
Former three-time Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick has publicly pleaded with Emma Raducanu to fight tooth and nail to keep Mark Petchey in her corner.
The former US Open winner's gutsy efforts in the third round at SW19 against World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka earned plaudits from onlookers. Now Roddick reckons the 22-year-old must rid herself for a career beset by multiple coaching changes and injury setbacks which have left her struggling to replicate the brilliance which led her to glory at Flushing Meadows four years ago.
Roddick – a former US Open winner himself – reckons that must start with a serious conversation with Andy Murray's former coach Petchey.
Roddick – speaking on his Served Podcast – said: "If I had one request leaving this tournament, please stay with Mark Petchey. It is working! You have looked better and better each time. Petchey is a really good coach, and you seem to have a great camaraderie.
"That is like, don't fire someone and start over again and do the whole thing. Keep this continuity."
But Raducanu didn't commit to Petchey beyond this summer but offered a warm thanks for his services.
Raducanu said: "It's very difficult. He obviously also has his commentating commitments. He agreed to help me until the end of Wimbledon and then we will see from there because he gave up some work to work with me here, which I really appreciate and I'm grateful for."

I scored massive Celtic goal in crucial Champions League qualifier – here's why play-off can DEFINE Hoops stars' careers
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) KRIS COMMONS insists Celtic's Champions League play-off won't just define their season. It will also define the entire CAREERS of the current squad. Sign up for the Celtic newsletter Sign up 4 Commons says Tony Watt's goal against Barcelona is unforgettable Credit: Kenny Ramsay - The Sun Glasgow 4 Commons scored a crucial goal against Shakhter Karagandy in CL play-off in 2013 Credit: Keith Campbell - The Sun Glasgow 4 Former Celtic attacker Kris Commons Credit: PA:Press Association Old Bhoy Commons first reached the group stages in 2012, after qualifying wins over HJK Helsinki and Helsingborgs. It set up mouth-watering ties against Benfica, Spartak Moscow and Barcelona. Commons, now 41, recalled: 'That was the year Tony Watt scored against Barca, which is a memory I'll never forget. 'It was an incredible experience, real bucket-list stuff just to play against that quality of team. In that game, it was only when Tony scored after 83 minutes to put us 2-0 ahead that any of us thought we had a chance! 'I believe I was one of the first to run across to him and celebrate. But there were a few lads who got a sudden burst of adrenaline at that precise moment. 'I just think the tournament is special and where you want to be as a player. 'For Celtic, the play-off could be the difference between a good season and a brilliant one. It could really define their season just getting there into the league phase. 'But for the players, those games define careers. 'It's the absolute pinnacle, isn't it? You can feel the buzz and excitement on the big nights. It's a genuine thrill and something to tick off as a player. 'Because of that, there's real pressure on the qualifiers. But they are not easy because they are so early on, and you're not at your peak at that stage. Major Mikey Moore Rangers loan doubts & 'strange situation' at Celtic + transfer news Go Ballistic 'We got lucky with a couple but didn't in a few others, and dropped into the Europa League as a result. But we had some dream ties in the Champions League and they stick with you, they really do. 'That's what the players there now have in front of them. I hope they do it again.' The Hoops will find out next Monday who stands in their way when the play-off draw takes place in Nyon. Celtic fans are desperately hoping they will have more new signings by then, Commons included. He added: 'I'd have thought they would have made a few more signings by now. 'There is still time for that. But in an ideal world they would have got their big transfers done already, and got the players in through the door ahead of the Champions League qualifier, which is arguably the biggest game of the season. 'I know they have had a few bids in for a couple of wingers. 'But I would have rather seen them make a little bit more headway than that in the transfer market. 'Yet that maybe just underlines how difficult it is to get deals done and over the line in the current climate. 'Where Celtic have fallen foul in previous years is when they have dragged their heels, trying to get deals across the line for a couple of million quid. 'But then they have felt the pressure from the supporters and ended up paying over the odds for certain players. "I remember they paid around £10million for Albian Ajeti and Vasilis Barkas one summer. 'Neither of those guys lasted long, but they were signed in a panic. 'I would never want Celtic to be rash. But they have been forced into corner in years gone by, because of a lack of activity. 'That happens when clubs go into the last 48 hours of the window with work still to do. 'They end up paying a lot of money for players who clearly aren't going to make any difference to the squad.' Commons knows, though, it's vital Brendan Rodgers strengthens his forward line this summer. 4 He said: 'When you want to compete at the highest level you definitely need a full squad. And you need that cutting edge for the big games. 'You always need a little bit of luck at times. 'But if you want to progress in the top competitions then you need big players who are going to turn up when it's needed. 'The ones who create goals and score them are usually the ones who cost the big bucks. 'Celtic will need to get the deals done sooner rather than later now because the clock is ticking. 'In this day and age, I don't think any club should be going in with bids of £1.7m, then £2m and then £2.5m. 'Just ask the club what they want and if that figure is out of reach then move on to another target. 'If they do really want that player then they may have to pay slightly more than they wanted. 'It's like they try to get everyone for under £3m.' There is also uncertainty over boss Rodgers' own future, but Commons doesn't think this summer's recruitment will impact on what happens there. Just as he doesn't believe the investment at Rangers will make any difference to what happens at his old club. Commons added: 'Zero. I really don't think Celtic will be keeping an eye on them at all. 'Rangers have their own issues to resolve and sort out, with a new manager who has been brought in. 'They have made some signings, sure, ahead of their own Champions League qualifiers. 'But I believe Brendan will be fully focused on what's already in his dressing room and who he can bring in to add quality.' Here is your Tuesday evening transfer bulletin featuring Celtic being outbid for a key target, how the deal could impact Rangers, Lennon Miller developments and a resolution in Hibs' pursuit of Nectar Triantis. Celtic outbid for target Celtic have been told to up their transfer bid for Jakob Breum after Go Ahead Eagles revealed they have already turned down a higher offer for the midfielder from one of their Dutch rivals. The Hoops have had three bids rejected for Breum, according to reports in the Netherlands, with an initial bid of £1.3million swiftly rejected, while the most recent offers also fell well short of his club's valuation. The 21-year-old, who is under contract until 2027, joined Go Ahead as a left winger from Odense two years ago but was transformed into a central attacking midfield player. The Denmark Under-21 international delivered 10 goals and five assists in the Eredivisie last season. (Photo by MAURICE VAN STEEN/ANP/AFP via Getty Images) | ANP/AFP via Getty Images Addressing the interest from Celtic, Go Ahead CEO Jan Willem van Dop confirmed that the club had already knocked back a higher offer from FC Twente. "There was a question (from FC Twente), and that was about Jakob Breum. That's negotiable, but only if the price is right. And we couldn't reach an agreement on that. What I did find positive was that his thoughts were certainly higher than the official offer Celtic ever made. "I've told Celtic that we won't be accepting their offer. I spoke to Breum's agent on the phone Monday morning, and he hopes he'll go that certainly not the most difficult club, but it has to be a good fit. And if we can't reach a financial agreement, we also have the right to say: well, it's not going to happen." Rangers deal hampered Celtic's pursuit of Jakob Breum could provide a stumbling block to Rangers' attempts to sign his Go Ahead Eagles team-mate Oliver Antman. Finnish international winger Antman is reportedly on Russell Martin's radar as he looks to bolster his attacking options for his maiden season in charge. However, Go Ahead CEO Jan Willem van Dop has intimated that the club will only sell one of Antman and Breum this summer. With Breum already the subject of interest from Celtic and Twente, it could hamper Rangers move for Antman. Asked about interest from the Glasgow giants in Breum and Antman, van Dop responded: "Those are the guys who are in the spotlight. I think one of them will ultimately leave." The 17-year-old has made 21 appearances for Spurs but their new manager Thomas Frank explained on Tuesday he would like to 'find the right option' for the attacker to get the necessary game time to accelerate his development. When asked about Moore at his pre-match media briefing on the eve of Wednesday's Champions League qualifier with Panathinaikos in Athens, Gers boss Martin said little to dispel suggestions he is set to move to Ibrox. I think I've said to you all the way along that as soon as it's done you'll be the first guys to know,' Martin said on Tuesday. 'There's lots of players we like, lots that we're linked to. He's a really good player and if at any point he becomes a Rangers player we will let you know.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Lennon Miller bids Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou conceded there is 'a high probability' that prized asset Lennon Miller will be sold this summer. Askou revealed on Tuesday that the Lanarkshire club have received offers for the 18-year-old Scotland international, who is currently recovering from a minor injury, and that he may have played his last game for the Steelmen. 'Yeah, he's still here, he's training, we're trying to get him back into full training after he's had a minor thing here over the summer and there's been some bids on him recently and it's something the board is working with,' the manager told Sky Sports. 'I'm trying with the staff here to get the team ready for Saturday, so it's going on in the background and will probably intensify here in the coming days. Who knows how long it's going to take, there's been a lot of speculation, a lot of rumours, a lot of interest in him for a long time and of course it's intensifying now.' Motherwell have received offers for Scotland international Lennon Miller. | Getty Images Bologna and Udinese are among the clubs reportedly leading the chase for Miller, who has also been linked with Celtic. Asked if he expected the teenager to remain at Motherwell beyond the end of the transfer window, Askou said: 'We'll see. Obviously there's a high probability that he will move this summer, but nothing is finalised yet. Obviously there's concrete things going on which we expected at the moment, so it's going to be interesting to see how it's all turning out. For now he's still a Motherwell player and he's doing his best to get back to full training so we can maybe see if we see him on the pitch again or not, but we're trying our best to get him ready.'
