Tom Daley says Celebrity Traitors was 'very intense'
Retired British Olympic diver Tom Daley has opened up about his time filming The Celebrity Traitors and said he got to know his fellow contestants on a "much deeper" and "very intense level", as they were all shut off from the world. The forthcoming BBC show, a charity spin-off of The Traitors, will see 19 famous faces – who include Irish actress Ruth Codd, comedian and presenter Alan Carr, and actor and broadcaster Stephen Fry – gather in the Scottish Highlands for the "ultimate game of deceit and betrayal". Speaking about The Celebrity Traitors at a special screening of his new documentary, Tom Daley: 1.6 Seconds, the 31-year-old said: "I'm not sure when it comes out, maybe later this year, but it was a very fun experience. "And honestly, all I want to do is talk about it, but I'm not allowed. "All I can say is, it was very fun – the cast and meeting the other people. "It was great to see everybody and get to know everyone on a much deeper level, and very intense level, because you're completely shut off from the rest of the world. So yeah, it was fun." Hosted by Strictly Come Dancing' s Claudia Winkleman, the nine-part celebrity version, airing in the autumn, will give contestants the chance to win a cash prize of up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice. Daley's new Discovery+ documentary, Tom Daley: 1.6 Seconds, features personal family films and candid interviews with the athlete and those closest to him, including his husband, the Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black. The 90-minute documentary, the name of which references the time between diving platform exit and pool entry, charts Daley's career, from the build-up to his first Olympics in Beijing 2008 to post-retirement life. The Olympian said: "This documentary is a very vulnerable side to me, like diving into topics that I may not have talked about in such depth before, and it might give people a different perspective of what was actually going on versus what they saw in the media. "Because growing up is already kind of pretty tough, but then growing up under media scrutiny and having people already having a conception of who you are and how you should deal with things was pretty challenging. "But then also diving into the archival footage that my dad had seen. For me, it's like hearing my dad's voice that really makes me quite emotional in the documentary. "I just feel very grateful that I do have this documentary to be able to look back on, and for my kids to be able to see and have those moments kind of made eternal, if you like, with my dad and myself." Daley's father died from cancer in 2011, meaning he missed seeing the diver secure his first Olympic medal, a bronze, at the London Games in 2012. Daley went on to win gold at the Tokyo Games in 2021. The diver, who secured his fifth Olympic medal in 2024, announced his retirement from diving following the Paris Games.

Fans fear attacker will choose England over Ireland with €35m deal agreed
Fans fear Liam Delap will opt for England over Ireland, with the attacker seemingly on the verge of joining Chelsea in a €35million move. The forward scored 12 goals for Ipswich in the Premier League this season. Delap's father Rory played for the Boys in Green 11 times and also represented Ireland at U21 level. However, his son is heading to Slovakia next month to represent England's Under-21s at the European Championship, but he is still eligible to play for Ireland. Heimir Hallgrímsson has met with the attacker and hasn't given up hope that he might one day play for Ireland despite the fact he has represented England at every age group except the senior side, unlike Jack Grealish and Declan Rice, who represented Ireland at various levels before switching to England. Asked if he had spoken with the 22-year-old, the Ireland manager said this week: 'We have sat with him, yeah, just told him we would love to have him in our camp. 'But, like I said, the focus is on the [England] Under-21s.' When asked if the former Manchester City youth player showed any interest in a switch, Hallgrímsson replied: 'Well he didn't say f**k off!' However, Ireland fans believe it is very unlikely that the forward will switch international allegiance to play for the Boys in Green. One wrote online: "He won't play for us. HH just doing his job to get him in. Worth a try." Another commented: "I'm sure Liam met him out of respect since his dad played for Ireland , ain't no way he's making the choice to play for Ireland while he has any chance of playing for England senior team." Someone else said: "In the immortal words of the legendary Johnny Giles, 'any young lad worth his salt who was born and raised in England will want to play for England'." "I think the die is cast here. Fair play to Delap he hasn't used the Irish age grades to make his way upwards. He's had a consistent position, good luck to him for the future," read another comment.

Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid from Liverpool before Club World Cup
LIVERPOOL HAVE AGREED a deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid on 1 June. The new Premier League champions confirmed a deal had been reached for him to join Real prior to the expiry of his Liverpool contract on 30 June, and Real said this would enable the England international to play for the Spanish side at this summer's Club World Cup. The Reds confirmed a fee had been paid to secure the 26-year-old's services at the start of June rather than from 1 July, with Real announcing Alexander-Arnold had agreed a six-year contract. Advertisement A Liverpool club statement said: 'Alexander-Arnold joined the club's academy at the age of six and progressed through the ranks to make his senior competitive debut in October 2016. 'He now departs Anfield after 354 appearances and 23 goals for the club, as well as lifting eight major honours alongside his team-mates, which consist of two Premier League titles, the Champions League, Fifa Club World Cup, Uefa Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups. 'Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool FC with the club appreciative and grateful for his contribution to those successes.' The PA news agency understands Liverpool will benefit to the tune of £10 million (€11.9m) from the transfer – a combination of a €10m payment from Real to secure Alexander-Arnold's services early, and money saved on four weeks' wages to the player. Sources close to the Merseyside club say Real first registered an interest in the player last December, and since then their football department has been determined to protect the best interests of the club. The money secured appears to represent good business for Liverpool, amid early indications Real would only be willing to pay £850,000 (€1m) to secure the player's services before the expiry of his Liverpool contract. Alexander-Arnold confirmed on 5 May he would be leaving Liverpool this summer, and was booed by fans during the subsequent home match against Arsenal. However, he was warmly welcomed by fans at Anfield during the final game of the season against Crystal Palace last Sunday, with the player saying he had 'never felt so loved'.
