False armed robbery report in Fond du Lac leads to woman's arrest

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – A woman was arrested on Wednesday after she reportedly claimed to be robbed at knifepoint in Fond du Lac, which surveillance video would later debunk.
Around 9:25 a.m. on August 13, officers with the Fond du Lac Police Department say they responded to a reported armed robbery near North Macy Street and West Rees Street.

Officers say that the 34-year-old woman who reported the robbery stated she was walking from a local business to a bank with funds from the alleged business when she was confronted by a man with a knife. She claimed that the man fled with the money.
FDLPD Officers immediately locked down the area, set up a perimeter, deployed a drone, used a UTV to search tall grass along the river, reviewed surveillance footage, and partnered with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office for a K9 track.
During the investigation and the review of surveillance video, officers learned that there was no one else in the area at the time of the alleged robbery.

When authorities confronted the woman, she reportedly admitted to fabricating the entire story,
The woman was arrested on a probation hold, taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail, and now faces charges of Resisting/Obstructing an Officer.
'False reports waste valuable public safety resources, divert Officers from real emergencies, and put the community at risk,' officers said in the release.
