Two rescued mentally ill men shifted to care centre
Udupi: Two mentally ill men rescued on separate occasions by social worker Vishu Shetty have been shifted to Swarga Ashrama, a care centre in Kolalgiri in the outskirts of Udupi town, after their families declined to take them back despite repeated efforts to contact them.
One of the men, Dinesh Poojary, was found wandering unclothed on National Highway-66 near Nittur nearly a month ago. The other, identified only as Hanumanth, had attempted suicide about 15 days ago in Kuthpady. Both were rescued and admitted to Dr A V Baliga Memorial Hospital in Doddanagudde by Shetty.
After treatment, the men recovered and expressed a desire to reunite with their families. However, according to Shetty, attempts to trace and convince their families were unsuccessful. With no other support system in place, he arranged for their care at Swarga Ashrama and personally bore their medical expenses amounting to Rs 65,000.

NEW DELHI: The Maggi crisis, which unfolded in June 2015 and led to a nationwide ban of the popular instant noodles, was "one of the greatest challenges" of my career, said Suresh Narayanan , chairman and MD of Nestle India, said in his final letter to shareholders before his retirement on July 31. Narayanan, who took over as the company's CMD in 2015, is recognised for rejuvenating the company's flagship brand Maggi, after the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) raised concerns about high levels of lead and monosodium glutamate in the product, leading to a temporary ban and significant backlash for the brand. Maggi noodles went from market leadership to near extinction and recovered 60% of its market share within months of its relaunch, he added. In his letter, Narayanan highlighted the decade's achievements, noting that Nestle India's capex increased from 1.8% of sales in 2015 to 10% in 24-25. "This not only demonstrates the focus on Indian consumers, but also our commitment to manufacture in India and 'Make in India' as a theme,'' he said. The company achieved a CAGR of over 10% in revenue and 21% in net profit over 2015-2025. Its revenue in FY24-25 stood at Rs 20,100 crore and net profit at Rs 3,300 crore. "In 2015, many considered us to be solely a Maggi noodles company. Since then we recalibrated and rejuvenated the portfolio launching over 150+ new products that have contributed to 7% of sales,'' Narayanan said. Five barrages to be constructed on Kshipra ahead of Simhastha 2028
Ujjain: To ensure the purity and proper flow of Kshipra River, five barrages are being constructed by the Water Resources Department as part of the backup scheme following the Kanha Closed Duct project. The five barrages will be located at Gothda, with additional barrages at Radyopipliya, Jamalpura, Ramwasa and Panthpiplai. To maintain an uninterrupted flow of Kshipra water ahead of Simhastha 2028, monsoon water will be stored in Sewarkhedi and released into the river post-monsoon through Silarkhedi as per the requirement over the next eight months. Additionally, the sewage water from Indore, Sanwer and Dewas will be diverted to Singawada, located downstream of the Gambhir Dam, to ensure that cleaner water reaches the Kshipra River. Mayank Singh, executive engineer of Water Resources Department, shared details of the closed duct being constructed, measuring 4.5 metres by 5 metres, which will direct sewage away from Kanha during non-monsoon months. "Under the Namami Shipra scheme, the five barrages are crucial for improving the quality of the Shipra," he said. Mayank Parmar, sub-divisional officer at Water Resources Department, Ujjain said that the Gothda barrage will be constructed 200 metres upstream from the current earthen dam at Kanha's Triveni. Parmar said that as per the planned structure, the Gothda barrage will stand 4.5 metres high, stretch 132 metres long and exceed 7 metres thickness, featuring approximately 18 gates. With a storage capacity of around 0.784 million cubic metres, it is anticipated to overflow when full. The estimated cost for this barrage is around Rs 6.24 crore and construction is set to commence shortly. Additionally, the series of four new barrages will benefit local farmers, who will have the opportunity to draw water as required, further enhancing agriculture in the region.

Villagers perform yagya after six deaths in animal attack
Barwani: After the death of six people from animal bite despite getting the vaccine, the people of Limbai village have resorted to yagya. Meanwhile, another person was admitted to the district hospital after their health deteriorated. Villagers of Limbai collected Rs 100 from each family on Tuesday and organised a yagya. Pandit Hariom, Kunal, Mahendra and Devendra, who conducted the yagya said, "After six deaths, the villagers are very scared, so a 12-hour Yagya has been organised for protection from the disaster and peace of the soul of the deceased." Om Soni, former district president of BJP said that he informed the district in-charge minister Gautam Tetwal and the deputy chief minister and health minister Rajendra Shukla about the entire matter. Barwani CMHO, Dr Surekha Jamre said that on Tuesday, Baliram of Limbai was admitted to the district hospital after his condition deteriorated. Baliram earlier fled while being referred to Indore. He was again sent to Indore on May 30 but he returned along with four other people, against the advice of the doctors. The CMHO said that the remaining 10 people are recovering by staying in their homes and the medical team is constantly monitoring them. She said, "The people returning from MY Hospital said that they were feeling nervous in the isolation ward there and wanted to come to the open environment of their village." Apart from this, some people said that despite getting the vaccine, people are dying, so they have developed a phobia of the vaccine, she added. She said that on the advice of the higher officials, the saliva of Baliram (undergoing treatment at the district hospital) and the brain tissue of another deceased are being sent to the lab in Pune for examination. Apart from this, after taking approval from the state govt on the instructions of district collector Guncha Sanobar, the vaccine samples are being sent to the National Drug Laboratory in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, for checking the efficacy. According to the higher officials, the matter is also being informed to NCDC (National Center for Disease Control) and advice is being taken. Block medical officer of Rajpur, Dr Devendra Romede said that on Tuesday, eight of ten people were given the fourth dose of the vaccine. In this, Chain Singh Mangiya refused to get vaccinated, while Mahesh Jai Singh is not traceable. Another Rajesh, who could not get the third dose due to disappearance, was vaccinated today. DFO of Barwani, Ashish Bansod said that Rs 8 lakh of compensation amount has been approved for the families of all the deceased. He said that the unidentified animal or its carcass is being searched with the help of drones, trap cameras and cages with forest staff. The information of two people being bitten by an unknown animal in village Bilwani is also being confirmed. Meanwhile, two people who went out for a morning walk in Balwadi of Sendhwa sub-division of the district have been referred to Indore after being bitten by dogs. On the other hand, tribal leader and MLA from Manawar of Dhar district, Dr Hiralal Alawa has written a letter to the chief minister demanding an inquiry into the negligence of the administrative, medical and forest staff, along with compensation of Rs 50 lakh each to the families of the deceased, Rs 20 lakh each to those affected and the formation of an expert committee in MY Hospital.
