
‘Suspicious man' with chainsaws prompts pursuit of U-Haul in central Alberta

Alberta RCMP have laid charges in a bizarre situation that saw a suspect allegedly drive dangerously in a U-Haul after hopping inside with two stolen two chainsaws.
Olds RCMP say they were called just after 3 p.m. on Monday for reports of a 'suspicious man' carrying two chainsaws who ran toward a U-Haul, jumped in and 'dangerously fled.'
Officers located the truck shortly after on Highway 587 in Red Deer County, at which time they attempted to stop it, but RCMP say the vehicle proceeded to drive into the Red Lodge Provincial Park gate.
Innisfail and Didsbury RCMP were called to help officers locate and stop the U-Haul.
Just before 4 p.m., Olds RCMP received a complaint about damage to a farmer's land, along with wire fencing on several other properties
Officers found the U-Haul in the area of Range Road 12 and Highway 587.
A female found walking south on Range Road 12 was arrested.
RCMP say more suspects were arrested shortly after, thanks to help from neighbours and area residents.
A search of the U-Haul resulted in the seizure of stolen property, including a tool bag, as well as the two chainsaws.
A 52-year-old Wetaskiwin woman is facing several charges.
RCMP haven't said if charges are pending against the other suspects.

Search ongoing for man who possibly drowned at Verdun Beach
Montreal police (SPVM) are searching for a man in his 20s who possibly drowned at Verdun Beach Saturday. The SPVM said it received 911 calls around 5:20 p.m. about a man in distress by Verdun Beach. He was playing a sport in the Saint-Lawrence River near LaSalle Boulevard and de l'Église Street. When they arrived, officers could not find him from the shore.
