Grisly discovery in bushland
A woman's body was been found in bushland in western Sydney on Sunday after a passer-by made the grisly discovery.
Police were called to reserve off Irwin Street at Werrington just after 1pm.
The woman has yet to be identified, but is believed to be middle aged.
Specialist police are on the scene and her cause of death has yet to be determined.
'The area of the reserve in question is quite isolated, it appears the body has been there for a period of time,' Detective Superintendent Trent King said.
Police found other items, including clothing, around the body.
Asked how long the body had been there, Supt King said: 'Certainly a period of time, it's very difficult to ascertain at this stage… We're hoping in the next couple of days through post-mortem examination and the (forensic examination of the scene), we will have further information about that.
Police are working with the Missing Person's unit in an attempt to identify the woman.

A religious Michigan couple were each sentenced to at least 20 years in prison for the murder of their baby girl after they chose prayer over urgent medical care. A jury found Joshua Piland, 44, and Rachel Piland, 38, guilty of second-degree murder and first-degree child abuse following a trial in March, ending an eight-year criminal case against the pair. On Wednesday, both were sentenced by a judge to 20 years to 45 years in prison for each charge, which will run concurrently. Less than a day after her birth, a midwife and her assistant told the mother to get to a hospital for immediate treatment, but the couple declined. Rebecca Kerr, Rachel Piland's mother, also advised her to seek medical care for the newborn, but they refused again base on an extreme religious doctrine. 'We believed (praying) was the best thing we could possibly do for her,' Rachel Piland testified at the trial. 'Even if she had died from some kind of struggle, we wouldn't have called 911.' After the baby was dead, the parents and friends prayed over the lifeless body. Authorities were not immediately contacted to report her death. It was only after a relative in California called police that officers responded to the house, about nine hours after Abigail died. The couple lost custody of their surviving children, two of whom needed the same treatment as Abigail. The state took them away for life-saving medical care and they survived. 1 person fatally shot during brawl at Fort Worth house party
A man was fatally shot early Sunday morning during an argument at a party. Fort Worth police said the shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday at a house in the 3700 block of N. Houston St. There were two shooting victims at the home when officers arrived. One of the victims died at a local hospital and the other is expected to survive his injuries, police said. There was also a third victim who went to a local hospital by private vehicle and is expected to survive. According to police, two women got into an argument at the party over one of the shooting victims. Then, unknown suspects arrived at the party and got involved in a physical altercation with one of the victims. One suspect got out a gun and fired multiple shots, striking the victims. The suspect then left the scene. No arrests have been made. Fort Worth police said the investigation is ongoing.

Man killed in Hammersmith double shooting named and pictured for the first time
A man who died following a double shooting in Hammersmith has been named as Jordan Oliver Rodney from Northolt. Police were called to Claxton Grove at 11.19pm on Tuesday, June 11, following reports of gunfire. Officers arrived to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to hospital. A post-mortem examination has since been carried out. The second victim, also in his 30s, has been discharged from hospital. Jahmel Joseph, 28, of Eaton Rise, Ealing, has been charged with murder, attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of a prohibited weapon, and dangerous driving. He appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Saturday, July 14, and has been remanded to appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, July 18. In a statement, Mr Rodney's family said: 'It is with unimaginable heartbreak that we confirm the tragic loss of our beloved Jordan Olivier Rodney, who was taken from us far too soon. 'Jordan was a man who touched the lives of everyone who knew him. 'He was warm, funny, and loving. 'Always quick with a smile or a joke that could brighten the dark day. 'His kindness, generosity, and humour left a lasting impression on friends and family alike. 'Our son, brother, uncle, and friend was so much more than the circumstances of his death. 'He brought joy to our lives every single day, and his absence leaves a hole that can never be filled. 'We will remember Jordie for the love he shared so freely, the laughter he inspired, and the way he made us all feel seen and valued. 'We ask for privacy as we grieve this devastating loss and whilst we work to come to terms with what has happened.
