‘Tabubu' Labubu toys by US tattoo artist take social media by storm

Ever since Lisa of K-pop girl group Blackpink posted her Labubu on Instagram in April 2024, there has been a global frenzy over the ugly-cute soft toys created by Hong Kong-born artist Lung Ka-sing a decade ago.
Now, a new kind of Labubu is hitting the market.
Tattoo artist Hunter Chao is adding his personal touch to these cuddly, sharp-toothed monsters and reselling them as 'Tabubu' toys.
Chao, 27, who was born in the US state of California to Taiwanese parents, also posts Labubu content online, making unboxing videos in collaboration with
mainland Chinese toy retailer Pop Mart

The boy, whose name has not been disclosed, hails from Taizhou in Zhejiang province and has demonstrated an uncanny ability to support his weight and climb since a very young age. His mother revealed that he has been energetic since birth; even before he turned two, he could sway effortlessly while holding onto the armrests of a chair. Photo: Weibo His mother, surnamed Xu, shared that he has been lively and energetic since birth; even before turning two, he could sway effortlessly while holding onto the armrests of a chair. Concerned for his safety yet recognising his innate talent, his parents decided to purchase a set of children's parallel bars online. To their astonishment, he quickly mastered the equipment. Encouraged by his progress, the family later added rings and a horizontal bar to their home, where the boy now practises daily, showcasing impressive coordination and flexibility. 'Now, he spends time on them every day. It's a fantastic way to exercise at home,' Xu told Pioneer News. 'And his arms are incredibly strong – it really hurts when he playfully hits me,' she added.

Hong Kong's Haw Par Mansion to be repurposed as arts and culture venue in 2026

Hong Kong's historic Haw Par Mansion, built by the tycoon behind the Tiger Balm heat rub, will find a new lease of life as an arts and culture venue next year after a music school on the site shut down in 2022. Authorities said on Friday that Haw Par Mansion would be operated as a non-profit, self-financing site for arts and cultural use by the Foundation for Art and Culture to foster international exchanges. A government spokesperson said that Haw Par Mansion would be developed 'as a unique icon of international arts and cultural exchange in Hong Kong' and contribute to the city's role 'as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange'. The site would be managed, operated and revitalised by the institution under a three-year term, with the new operation to start in the second half of next year, authorities said. Visitors can expect the premises to be used for exhibitions, film screenings and workshops as well as residency programmes hosting local, mainland and international artists and organisations. Built in 1936, the mansion was once part of a larger eight-acre (3.2 hectares) park called 'Tiger Balm Garden', featuring surreal Buddhist-themed displays and open to the public.
