Gwyneth Paltrow blasts ski crash trial as ‘everything that's wrong with our legal system'

Fox News01-05-2025

Two years after winning her ski accident trial in 2023, Gwyneth Paltrow still has strong feelings about how everything went down.
During a recent episode of Erin and Sara Foster's "World's First Podcast," the Goop founder - who was sued by retired optometrist Terry Sanderson for allegedly causing a ski crash that he said left him with a "permanent traumatic brain injury" in 2016 - got candid about the "ridiculous" case and explained why backing down was not an option.
"It was ridiculous," she said. "And I have to say, the idea that someone could ski into your back and knock you down and then sue you — I was like, 'This is everything that's wrong with our legal system.'"
"That's why I felt like I had to fight it," the actress, 52, added. "I'm not gonna be shaken down here. I'm not doing that."
Sanderson filed a $3.1 million lawsuit against the actress, Deer Valley Resort and the ski instructor who was providing lessons to Paltrow's son Moses at the time of the incident.
A judge dismissed the claim, and Deer Valley Resort and the instructor were removed from the lawsuit.
Sanderson then sued Paltrow for $300,000. She countersued for $1 and attorney fees.
In 2023, Paltrow won the court battle after a jury ruled she was not at fault.
After the trial, Paltrow explained why she chose to "do the right thing" and fight.
"I found myself in that situation, and it was really important to me to go there and try to do the right thing," Paltrow told People magazine. "I didn't want to create any more attention. I wanted it to be about truth coming out."
Paltrow focused on remaining "calm" throughout the eight-day trial, which also included the Academy Award-winner taking the stand.
"That's what I was just sort of focused on," Paltrow said. "It was an intense experience. I kept saying to myself, in life, if you believe in God or the universe or whatever, I do believe that we're always exactly where we're supposed to be. And we don't have to understand it."
"I really believe in fighting for what's right," she said. "But I do think that when things have come up in my life where something's been egregious and there's an opportunity to try to change culture around that for women, I've sort of dove in."
"For some reason, I personally feel like I have a responsibility to try to continue to move culture along in this way, that women should be respected, women should be safe. ... Women should feel empowered to express themselves and their opinions, and women should be allowed to thrive. It's important to me, so I keep doing it."

Former Disney star Christy Carlson Romano reveals shocking details about nearly losing her eye after being shot in face

Christy Carlson Romano is speaking out about nearly losing an eye after she was shot in the face four months ago. During an appearance on the upcoming June 10 episode of the 'Not a Damn Chance!' podcast, via a sneak peek by People magazine, the 41-year-old former Disney star recalled the terrifying incident while she was shooting clay pigeons with her husband, Brendan Rooney, for his birthday. Asked how it happened, Romano explained she was not 'at liberty to say specifics,' according to People. The actress previously revealed on Instagram that she was 'hit in five places,' including below her eye. Romano shared details for the first time about what transpired. 'It's a birdshot that got sprayed in my direction by another party, and essentially it was within 200 feet, which means really fast and hot,' she told hosts Neen Williams and Frankland Lee. 'They weren't malicious,' Romano clarified. 'It wasn't aggravated assault. It's what happened.' The 'Even Stevens' star then emphasized the importance of gun safety and described her initial response. 4 Christy Carlson Romano sits in the hospital after being shot in the face at a party in February, 2025. 'I feel very out of body about it. … It's pretty wild,' she said. 'I'm shocked, and what goes through my head immediately is, 'Oh that's dope, I just got shot.' And then I go, 'Oh now I'm gonna die,'' she said. 'I take a knee. My husband witnessed it and was like, 'Hey are you hit?' because I didn't scream. I didn't do anything. I was just out of body.' Romano recalled she had a knee-jerk reaction upon being shot that stemmed from her time on the third season of the FOX reality TV series 'Special Forces: World's Toughest Test.' 4 The actress previously revealed on Instagram that she was 'hit in five places,' including below her eye. Romano explained that the contestants were trained to give a thumbs-up to let their fellow cast members know that they were OK during the series' perilous challenges. The 'Kim Possible' alum recalled that, out of habit, she gave Rooney a thumbs-up immediately after she was shot. 'He was like, 'Oh, you're good.' And I was like, 'No I'm hit.' He goes, 'Oh s—,'' Romano recalled of her husband's reaction. 'He was immediately into action mode, evaluating me and ran to get the car. 'I felt this huge rush that I'd never felt before where I was starting to get really woozy. I think it was shock.' Romano told the hosts she didn't experience any pain initially and described the thoughts that were running through her head, including her fears her children might be affected. The actress shares daughters Isabella, 7, and Sofia, 5, with Rooney. 'I was covered in blood from my forehead … and I said three things. I was like, 'Am I gonna die? Who's gonna take care of the girls? Is my career over?'' she recalled. Romano explained that she came close to being blinded or killed. 'If my head would've been tilted in any other direction, I would have been blind in my right eye. Or if I had turned my head, I could have gotten hit in a softer side of my skull, and I would have potentially been dead,' Romano said. 'It's still in my eye,' she said of the pellets from the shotgun. 'I have a fragment still in my forehead, and I have a fragment still behind my eye, which is 1 millimeter away from blinding me.' Romano previously explained on Instagram that the lead fragment behind her eye had to remain in her face because removing it could leave her blind. 4 Christy Carlson Roman poses for a picture during a family trip to Disneyland in May 2025. Christy Carlson Romano/Instagram The shot fragment lodged in her skull will also remain in place because doctors said it will expedite her healing process. During her podcast interview, Romano told hosts she put on a brave face at first and was making jokes about her medical crisis after she arrived at the hospital. 'In retrospect, I was trying to be funny and not cry because I wanted the people around me to feel more calm so that they could take better care of me,' Romano said. The former Broadway star admitted that it has been difficult to accept she is a 'gunshot survivor.' Clay pigeon shooting is an outdoor sport in which upside-down circular disks made of limestone and pitch used as targets are propelled into the air by machines called traps. Shooters use shotguns, with each shot projecting hundreds of small lead balls to hit the clay pigeons. The sport is typically not considered dangerous as long as safety measures are follow.

Gwyneth Paltrow's ‘immersive retreat' blasted online: ‘Quite unimpressive'

Gwyneth Patlrow's 'holistic, immersive retreat' in the Meatpacking District has some visitors stressed out. The Hollywood star's free 'seasonal installation' at Genesis House, which also houses a Korean restaurant, is called 'The Forest Within' and is supposed to be 'a restorative and multi-sensory wellness experience.' 3 Gwyneth Paltrow's immersive installation at Genesis House first opened last month. Neil Rasmus / Shutterstock But some of the Goop queen's fans said they waited too long for a lackluster experience that was far too short. The experience 'guides guests through an immersive journey centered around Korean heritage, nature, and design,' according to a news release. 'Drawing inspiration from the cultural significance of nature, Paltrow's fantasy transforms Genesis House into a meditative forest that is rich with natural elements and layered with symbolic representations of Korean wildlife — most notably the Tiger, long regarded as a guardian spirit in Korea.' But the 'experience' 'took 5 minutes to walk through,' said one person who griped that there was 'no place to sit and admire the mediocre projections. 3 The installation runs through June 29. Neil Rasmus/Shutterstock 3 'Umimpressive' was just one of the words visitors used to describe Paltrow's work. Genesis Motor America 'Not something to go out of your way for,' the online critic added. 'Beautiful but literally 2 minutes long,' another commented. Others bemoaned the excessive wait times for what was an all too brief experience. 'This was quite unimpressive after a 40-minute wait,' one person wrote online. Reps for Paltrow did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The installation is open until June 29.

Olivia Munn reveals she ‘felt like an expectant father' while waiting for her daughter to arrive via surrogate

Olivia Munn knows that in the end it worked out exactly as it should. Although while the actress, 44, was waiting for the arrival of her second child, daughter Méi, now 8 months, via surrogate, she wasn't sure she felt totally connected. Munn, who also shares son Malcom, 3, with husband John Mulaney told People in an interview published Saturday, that waiting for Méi to be born 'was the first time I was like, 'Oh wait, is this what it's like to be an expectant dad?'' Olivia Munn / Instagram 'A lot of times people say, 'Oh, the dads don't really connect with the baby until it's right there in front of them,' ' she explained. 'The dads, they're not carrying the baby. I carried Malcolm, so I understood from the very genesis, like, okay, I've got a life in me. Your body is changing and your energy is changing and your hair is changing and everything's changing, so it feels very real all the time.' This time around, Munn and Mulaney, 42, opted for a surrogate after the 'Buddy Games' alum underwent a double mastectomy and hysterectomy following her breast cancer diagnosis. Advertisement 'Even though it all felt very real for me, and our surrogate and I spoke all the time and she'd send me videos, it was a little bit of, 'Oh wait, she's coming,'' Munn continued. 'I felt like an expectant father.' 'It was important to do it at that moment, but it was also scary because my type of cancer feeds on hormones, and there are a lot of hormone injections with IVF,' the 'Your Friends & Neighbors' star said about deciding to do an egg retrieval before her cancer surgeries. After the procedure, Munn shared she was able to retrieve seven eggs, with two of the embryos being 'strong enough to be tested for abnormalities and the gender.' I know this puts me at risk, but I just need you to support me,' ' Munn recounted. 'He said, 'Whatever you need.' ' The Hollywood vet's doctor then called and confirmed she had two healthy female embryos. As Munn put it, 'that was a sign for me everything was going to be okay.' Oliviamunn/Instagram And when it came to choosing a surrogate to carry their daughter, one thing in particular mattered most: 'The number one thing that I wanted in a surrogate was someone who was kind.' She added, 'I just wanted her to be kind, and I needed her to understand that this is a path that I had to go on. This is not a choice I would've made for myself.' 'The first thing I worried about was if I would be able to find somebody who would love and take care of my daughter as much as I would,' Munn went on. Mulaney noted that 'it wasn't just the courage of it. She also was just giving us — it's always just her greatest best self throughout it.'
