Talk of beating Derby's record 'embarrassing' - Harwood-Bellis

BBC News03-04-2025

Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis says that talk of trying to not be the worst Premier League side ever is "embarrassing." Derby County hold the record for the lowest tally in Premier League history, finishing bottom on 11 points in 2007-08.On Wednesday night, the Saints edged closer to getting over that unwanted record with a draw against Crystal Palace, that takes their total for the season to 10 points."We just wanna get over it," Harwood-Bellis told BBC Radio Solent. "It pains us to even say that is the case. It's not somewhere we expected to be and it's embarrassing - we're not gonna shy away from that."We will look to rack up the points and try to put an uplift going into next season, that has to be the main focus. "That's down to our mentality and we'll see who the real characters are going into the final games of the season."Supporters found plenty to be encouraged about at St Mary's on Wednesday night. Despite the late equaliser by Palace, at the full-time whistle most fans were on their feet applauding the team for their efforts. Saints produced some moments of quality in the match and a brilliant move to take the lead in the first half. Ivan Juric's side will hope to build on this and carry elements of the performance into their final eight league matches. They face Tottenham away on Sunday, the reverse fixture earlier in the season was Russell Martin's last before being sacked - they lost that game 5-0.

Can you guess this English Premier League star from their Father's Day tribute?

Sunday was a day for dads to kick back, relax and be spoilt rotten as they celebrated Father's Day. What did you get your dad? A T-shirt? A mug? Scrambled egg in bed? Or how about a giant Toblerone!? Well, one Premier League star took to Instagram to share several throwback photos as he paid tribute to his old man. The English player - who made a big-money move in 2023 - posted a set of photos charting their journey together. While most of the photos are from the last couple of years, one picture shows the now-Premier League footballer sitting on his father's lap when he was just a young boy. But can you guess who it is? That's right, it's Chelsea and England star Cole Palmer! Palmer can be seen smiling for a cute photo with his father, Jermaine, who has remained by his side throughout his career. The other photos highlight how close Cole and Jermaine still are, with the pair enjoying nights out together and celebrating the former's on-pitch success. One photo sees Jermaine holding the Young Player of the Year trophy that Cole won at the PFA Awards in his first season at Chelsea last year. Cole scored 25 goals in the 2023-24 season after joining Chelsea for £42.5m from Manchester City. He also won his first England cap that season, and went on to score in the Euro 2024 final when England were beaten 2-1 by Spain. Cole had a slight quieter second campaign at Stamford Bridge as his goalscoring numbers plummeted in the second half of the season. However, he stepped up when his team needed him most to register two assists in the Conference League final against Real Betis to win their first major trophy under Enzo Maresca.

Bournemouth sign Adrien Truffert, paving way for Liverpool target Kerkez to leave

Bournemouth have signed the France left-back Adrien Truffert from Rennes on a five-year contract. The 23-year-old's arrival paves the way for Milos Kerkez, a Liverpool target, to leave. Truffert, who captained Rennes, told Bournemouth's website: 'It's a dream for any player to play in the Premier League. It's one of the best and most competitive leagues in the world. I'm looking forward to testing myself at this level, facing top players every week and helping the team achieve great things.' Truffert, born in Belgium, won his sole France cap as a substitute in a 2-0 Nations League defeat to Denmark in September 2022. He played for France at the 2024 Olympics, helping them to finish as runners-up, and scored nine goals in 191 appearances for Rennes. The deal was announced on the day the transfer window reopened after an earlier Club World Cup-related opportunity to make signings. The window will close on Monday 1 September.
