Lucknow: Two brothers from Moradabad have been selected to represent India in swimming events at the World Police and Fire Games 2025 in the USA.
Rohit Sharma
(20), a UP Police head constable posted in Meerut, and his elder brother Ritik Sharma (21), a CISF constable posted in Hyderabad, will be among 43 athletes from Uttar Pradesh representing the country in various disciplines.
"This is a very proud moment for me and my brother to be part of the Indian contingent in the World Police and Fire Games. I joined the Uttar Pradesh Police through the 2023 recruitment and have been representing UP Police at the national level. Our father, Ravi Sharma, has been our coach since childhood and has also served in the UP Police," said Rohit.
"Our father began training us when I was 2 and my elder brother was 7 years old.
My mother, who is also a swimming coach, has supported us throughout," He said. Rohit recently won two gold medals in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, and a silver in the 50m breaststroke at the All-India Police Games 2025 held in Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, Ritik said both brothers compete in the breaststroke category. "I remember my last competition was in 2021, where Rohit defeated me in my main event. Now, we train and compete together in the same category and help correct each other's mistakes.

We rely on our father for guidance whenever one of us falls short," he said.
Ritik bagged two gold medals in the 50m breaststroke and 100m medley relay, and a silver in the 100m breaststroke at the All-India Police Games 2025.
Their father, Ravi Sharma, said swimming is a family passion. "My wife Nisha began learning swimming at the age of 36 and went on to compete in the nationals in the Masters category. Even my mother, Vaichitra Devi, continues to swim at the age of 75," he said.
"I worked diligently for my children and faced many challenges. I even sold my house and land to support their growing expenses in swimming. But today, all that hard work has borne fruit," he added.
In addition to the Sharma brothers, Riya Verma, another UP Police head constable, also secured a spot in the World Police and Fire Games 2025. She won four medals in Ahmedabad.

Vinod Kambli "Never Cared About Money", Rejected Part-Time Job: Ex Teammate's Stunning Revelation

Former India batter Vinod Kambli is the living example of "from riches to rags". Once considered as the future of Indian cricket, Kambli miserably failed to make it big in his career, due to his unhealthy lifestyle and lack of discipline. In December last year, he also came into the limelight after he was admitted Akruti Hospital in Thane for urinary infection and cramps. His poor health condition became the talk of the town and several big names came forward to offer him a financial aid. Kambli, who is the legendary Sachin Tendulkar 's childhood friend, played 104 ODIs and 17 Tests for India. Recently, a never-heard before story about Kambli and Sachin was shared by one of their mutual friends, during their days in Yorkshire. Sachin joined Yorkshire in 1992, becoming the first overseas player to be signed by the English club. His friend Kambli was already in England, playing for a local club and made a big name for himself. While playing for a local club, Kambli became a known face and made many friends over there. Solly Adams, the man who was responsible for Sachin's contract, recently told the Indian Express that Kambli had turned down an offer of a part-time job. "One day we were sitting, 10 cricketers. All of them had part-time jobs except for Vinod and Sachin. So a cricketer from Mumbai asked Vinod - 'Since you only earn 25 pound a match, why don't you work at one of Solly's places? Kambli didn't think for a minute, pat came his reply: 'I and Sachin will make money playing Test cricket, I don't want to divert my attention doing part-time jobs.' That was exceptional, what confidence. He was very young, far from being a Test batsman but he had the confidence," Solly told Indian Express. "Vinod, when he returned to India, took all the money from his father and spent it with his friends ... Vinod never cared about money, nor did he have any respect for commodities," he added. Apart from him, Kambli's friend Nasa Hussain also spoke about the former batter's immense talent during his days with the local club. "As a South Asian, Sachin joining Yorkshire was big news. I'll tell you what was better, he brought along with him his friend Vinod Kambli, who played in our league. I've never-ever met a person who hits the ball as hard as he used to," Nasa Hussain told The Indian Express. "He just ran down the track and hits the first ball for six, and you think, 'well okay'. Young man from India, never seen before, never heard of before, and he just comes and smashes it. Subsequently, he went on to score two double-hundreds against England. That was some talent. In today's day and age, that guy would have been a multi-millionaire," he added.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Snubbed As Varun Chakravarthy Names His Dream T20 XI

In a candid conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin, India's mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy was asked to pick an all-time XI, naming only those players who have played with. Varun, who is a product of T20 cricket, having crafted his art in the Indian Premier League (IPL), picked some of the most renowned names in world cricket after being given the question by Ashwin. However, only three Indian players make the cut in his XI, with stalwarts like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli being snubbed. The only condition Ashwin set was that Varun has to pick the players he has played with. Varun started with the opening pairing of Jos Buttler and Travis Head. The two are unarguably among the most devastating openers in world cricket when it comes to the shortest format. However, the likes of Rohit and Virat have also done wonders as openers in the T20 format. Yet, there was no place for either of them in Chakravarthy's team. At No. 3, the mystery spinner went with Suryakumar Yadav, the current skipper of India's T20 team. For many, Surya is the No. 1 batter in the shortest format at present. Following him was Nicholas Pooran, the other candidate for the No. 1 spot in the list of batters in the 20-over format. South Africa and Sunrisers Hyderabad star Heinrich Klaasen took the No. 5 spot in the team, coming in as a wicket-keeper batter. Chakravarthy picked a total of three complete all-rounders in his team. To begin with, he named compatriot Hardik Pandya in the side. Hardik was followed by Varun's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) teammates Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. There was space for only one pure spinner in Varun's team, and that was Afghanistan's Rashid Khan. In the pace-bowling department, Varun went with Jasprit Bumrah and Sri Lanka's Matheesha Pathirana.
